Update: Days Later - Stallworth signed with the Patriots. I was out of town. You all know this already.
Update: 09:14pm - We are hearing that these rumors are just that, rumors. The 49ers making a run at Stallworth is at this time the same as it was with them showing interest in Porter. Very little.

Pro Football Talk is at it again. This time they are saying the 49ers are showing interest in Stallworth.
Per a league source, Stallworth has received a contract offer from the Titans. He previously has received offers from the Eagles and the Patriots. Stallworth currently is visiting the Dolphins.
And we’re hearing that the 49ers are now interested in Stallworth. At this point, it has not yet been decided whether Stallworth will visit San Fran.
We’d previously heard that Stallworth planned to make a decision by Friday. The arrival onto the scene of the Niners could change those plans.
Sign HIM…..DO IT NOWWWWW!!!!! If we were to get him then we will have the draft by the balls…..I say this becaus the holes we would need to fill we would be able to do perfectly by round according to talent level as well as need to fill the position. If we fill the receiver need then we can go defense, defense, and a little O line.
I think we waited a little too long and its going to cost us. He will probabaly sign with another team. The interest in Stallworth might mean that Seatle isnt willing to trade Darrell Jackson to us. Very interesting…hmmmm. We have to land at least one of these guys tho no questions asked
Yeah I agree……I am getting the feeling that the niners are going to want to be competitive about Stallworth, but want to save some cap room for Gore when the season starts so they can resign him. ALso, I am sure they want to keep Larry Allen around so they are trying to be smart about it……the question IS….how much would DJAX cost compared to Donte.

The Niners are about $12 mil left in cap space with about $5-$6 set aside for rookies. Bryant Young will be off the books next season, I believe Barlow’s $4 mil will off as well and the cap increases somewhere between $6-$9 mil next season. If they signed Stallworth they’d still have plenty to offer Gore.

Stallworth’s injuries were all at the beginning of the season. But that isn’t his biggest problem. Its the substance abuse. I like Darrell Jackson better.
The estimates currently are that the 49ers have about 13.5 million in cap space left, that’s really not that much considering it’s gonna cost 7-10 million for the draft picks. Stallworth will get at least 6 million a year from a team that isn’t the Patriots. IE, the 49ers may be expressing interest, but it’s only because there is a collective “no thanks” from the league to Stallworth’s current requests for 8-10 million a year. I sincerely doubt they will get him, nor do I think they should.
Draft the best defensive player available at 11, trade up from the 2nd round into the bottom 3rd of the first round and get someone like Meachem.

Just FYI, the Patriots offered Stallworth somewhere in the range of 6 years and 30 million. They obviously have the best chance at landing him for the least amount, meaning there is NO WAY he is going to get less than 4 million a year, for the person on this board who “guaranteed” that. The only reason he’s even still lookin is because he thinks if he gets a 1 or 2 year deal he thinks his next one will be a huge contract. But trust me, he knows if he comes to the 49ers right now his numbers will not allow him to get that big contract.

There are also other bad ass receivers coming out the draft like. Steve Smith-USC, Craig Davis-LSU,Jason Hill-Washington St.,Aundre Allison,Mike Walker come on now Meachem and Jarret are not the greatest in the draft here. These guys all run under 4.4 40 especially Aundrae Allison hell he runs a damn 4.28. They are all over 5-11. Not Steve Smith though. The bottom line is that we shouldn’t be too worried about getting Stallworth injury prone ass.

I know some of you guys want Stallworth, but he is not worth the money. I would take DJAX over him anyday. I would love for us to get L. Can someone tell me why we aren’t signing Donte if we have that much room left??? If we only need 8 million for our rookies… that still leaves seven million dollars. There is not way Donte is asking for more than 6 million dollars. This would leave one million dollars for contracts during the year for short term contracts in case someone gets injured. That is WAY more than we will need for that. Why aren’t we getting any thing done…Donte is reportedly getting offered 3 million dollars per year instead of the 6 years 30 whatever million that has been reported about the Patriots.

I think the Niners are to the point of wait and see who gets cut after June 1st and will start concentrating on the draft. They will probably keep that 6 million available if a player is cut that we can use. Most teams cut players after June 1st to avoid a salary cap hit this year. A veteran wideout might get cut that would be better than signing Stallworth or trading for Jackson. Or even better, a right tackle…..
