49ers Draft Dashon Goldson at 126

With their second pick in the 4th-round, the 49ers select Dashon Goldson, DB, Washington.

OVERVIEW
Moved from safety to corner during 2006 spring; made an interception at his new position in the 2006 Spring Game. … Prep teammate of UW corner Roy Lewis. … Earned his bachelor’s degree in American Ethnic Studies in June 2006.

ANALYSIS
Positives: Good size for the position. … Legitimate athlete who stood out as a free safety in 2004-05 and was expected to be moved to cornerback as a senior. … An offseason ankle injury and injuries to other defensive backs limited his time at cornerback to only a handful of games. … Practiced exclusively at cornerback at the East-West Shrine Game and helped his cause. Best in man coverage, where he can allow his size and pure athleticism to take over. Good read and reaction skills. Reliable open-field tackler. Quick to support the run.

Negatives: Might lack the pure speed to remain at cornerback, thus our ranking him at free safety. … Lacks the elite catch-up acceleration. … Effective open-field tackler, but not a punisher. … Reliable in coverage, but isn’t considered a playmaker. … Intercepted four passes and forced one fumble in 32 career games. Should be able to shed blockers better after spending most of his career at safety, but looks to beat them with merely his athleticism rather than technique.

  1. Is this guy another senior bowl player?

  2. im hoping that he is faster than his 40 x wich was a 4-60.

  3. No…shrine game.

  4. i dont remember his name from senior bowl but i do know excluding landry, nelson, and meriweather…this guys the 3rd best free safety

  5. not in seniorbowl, but was in east-west shrine game though.

  6. we’re coming up again and David Irons is still avalible…WE NEED TO PCIK HIM!!hes goin way too high….he was projected to be a 2nd to 3rd rounder

  7. either that or go another receiver or runningback

  8. Singletary coached Dashon in the Shrine Game. It looks like so far we’re only going for players our coaches have personally seen in game time situations.. first five were in the Senior Bowl. Dashon was in the Shrine Game.

  9. Irons sounds good!

  10. LOL if we pick david irons that will be another senior bowl player lol

  11. I aint watchin the draft whose available at runningback still???

  12. i still say we should target irons tho

  13. I don’t see what the problem is with drafting senior bowl players. Our coaching staff got to spend several days with these guys which in my opinion is way better than watching video of a guy.

  14. My Watch List

    David Irons CB Auburn(senior Bowl)
Aundrae Allison WR East Carloina(senior Bowl again lol
Ben Patrick TE(senior bowl too lol)

  15. there isnt anything wrong with senior bowl….they’re supposed to be some of the best coming out so there isnt anything wrong with it

  16. we’re on!!!!

  17. Matt, nothing wrong with the Senior Bowl guys we have selected and I agree with what you said about our coaches spending time with them. Just wondering if we’re too narrowly focused on players our coaches have seen.

  18. okay i have no problem with this only becuase hes from florida…gotta draft people who know how to win championships

  19. Who did they get????

  20. Joe Cohen DT

  21. THIS IS THE SHIT! NINERS FOREVER!!
