Jim (Denver, CO): Joe - we’re so excited you’re a Niner! How exciting is it to block for a young stud like Frank Gore?
SportsNation Joe Staley: It’s awesome. I got to experience it first hand in the OTAs how great a runner he is. To block for him is a great opportunity. And for the QB too. We have a great young team.
Dave (Seattle WA): Hey Joe! I hope you’ll do me proud when I’m cheering for you up here in Seattle! Do you have a specific game circled on the schedule you are especially excited for? Thanks, and have a good season!
SportsNation Joe Staley: I had a couple when I looked at it. We play Chicago in the preseason. I’ll get a chance to play against one of my former teammates then. We also play the Giants, so hopefully I’ll be in the lineup to play against Strahan, who I’ve always looked up to.
Keith (Pleasant Ridge, Michigan): Did going to a smaller, less known school like Central make you work harder?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I don’t know if it made me work harder. I’ve always worked hard. But I definitely didn’t take anything for granted. Any success we had was well earned. Everyone busted their butts in the off season to get ready. It also gave me a chance to play right away and have some success on the field.
Phil (NY): STALEY: How does this game compare to Madden 08?? And, how excited are you to possibly start for the greatest football franchise ever??
SportsNation Joe Staley: It is something cool that I can hear my friends say they played as me. Now I don’t have to enter my name anymore, I’ll be able to see my name. I’m hoping I’m the fastest tackle in the game.
Jeff (new orleans): how would you size up the competing teams in the NFC West?
SportsNation Joe Staley: Really, I haven’t done a whole lot of studying film on them yet. At mini camp and at OTAs, I focused on learning my own plays. I know there are a lot of talented teams in the conference.
Eddy (Miami): Joe, I’m a die hard Niner, I’d like to welcome you to the Family. What are your expectations for the 9ers this year?
SportsNation Joe Staley: Personally, I just want to make an impact on the team, whatever role that is. I’ve been working hard in the off season, gotten my body ready and then let the coaches make the decision on who plays. I’d like to make an impact in my rookie year. We’d just like to make the playoffs and keep developing as a team.
Jason in Santa Clara: Joe, The knock against you during the draft was that you need to bulk up, hit the weight room for a year, so you’ll be able to pass block against the better DE’s in the league. Do you see a connection with the weight room and your success in the league, or will you be more of a finesse player?
SportsNation Joe Staley: Currently, I’m about 318 pounds. I met with a nutritionist and came up with a plan. That’s my playing weight now. I’ve bulked up since college, when I was about 300. Hopefully, that won’t be an issue.
Travis, Canada: Joe, what are you going to miss most about the mid-west or Michigan in general?
SportsNation Joe Staley: No. 1, just missing my family. No. 2, the cheap price of real estate in the midwest. I can’t believe how expensive California is.
Faris (San Francisco, CA): How does it feel to get drafted by a team with so much prestige like the 49ers?
SportsNation Joe Staley: It’s great. My first visit there, I walked into the facility and the first thing you notice are the five Lombardi Trophies. Hopefully I can help continue that tradition.
Os (Jersey): Joe, big 9er fan from Jersey here. How are the OL vets out there treating you? How comfortable are you swithing between LT and RT?
SportsNation Joe Staley: The vets are great. I couldn’t have been surrounded by a greater group of guys. Any questions that I ask, they’re helpful. They want to see me help them win too. I’ve kept my mouth shut and not get in the way. I’m a rookie and now my place. As for the switch, it’s going pretty well. I’m just getting the fundamentals down. Getting acclimated to the mental aspects of the game.
Matt (Grand Rapids): Joe, good luck in San Fran. Do you have your name on the wall at the Corner Bar in Rockford, MI?
SportsNation Joe Staley: Yeah, I actually do. If you eat 12 chilli dogs in one sitting, you get your name on the wall, but if you eat 20, you get all your hot dogs for free. I tried for 20, but couldn’t get there. But I proudly display the bumper sticker.
mike (columbus): hey joe,did you feel any pressure to make sure your deal was done before camp?
SportsNation Joe Staley: No, not really pressure, but it was something I wanted to do. I didnt want to be behind one day or one hour. It was something I was committed to. I wanted that distraction out of the way and concentrate on football.
Arpan (Dublin,CA): Joe, Welcome to the ranks of the Red and Gold. Couple things for you: 1.) What has been the biggest challenge so far to adjusting to the pro game. And 2.) How excited are you to be able to work with and learn from a legend like Larry Allen?
SportsNation Joe Staley: The biggest adjustment I’ve experienced is the mental aspect of the game. The playbook is pretty extensive. I’m really excited in working with a great veteran and one of the all time greats in Larry Allen.
Ryan (Michigan): How many times a week would you go to the Soaring Eagle and are there any casinos where you live now?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I went there a couple of times during my college playing days, it’s kind of hard not to. It’s one of the only thing to do in Mt. Pleasant. But you don’t have too much money in college.
Tim (Milwaukie Oregon): Hey joe, where do you think the 49ers offensive line ranks in the NFL?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I feel like our OL is great. Everything that I’ve seen so far is that it’s a great group of guys. They take a professional attitude. I’m excited to get to camp.
Brent (Rockford): Who was the best defensive player that you ever faced in College?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I’d say my teammate Dan Bazuin. We had some great battles in practice. I think it helped us both to play with each other.
Bill (Palo Alto): Being a smaller tackle, what do you have to do to stop big pass rushers like Richard Seymour and Simeon Rice?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I think a lot of that will be how you prepare during the week and how you approach your film study. It’s mental preparation and how you watch your film. And also preparing in the weight room.
John (Oakland): Did you get recruited by bigger schools like Mich or Mich St? Why did you choose CMU?
SportsNation Joe Staley: When I was in high school, I was real lanky and I didn’t attend any of the camps. I didn’t know how the whole recruiting things worked. Central was one of the first schools to offer me and I accepted one week after they did.
Matt, Santa Rosa: Hey Joe, very happy you were draft by the 49ers, with one week left till training camp what are you going to do with your last week of downtime for awhile?
SportsNation Joe Staley: I’m headed back out to California tomorrow. I’ll start getting back into the facility and trying to prepare my mind for training camp. Also, I’m going to go do some sight seeing in California. I’ve got a friend who has a job as assistant wrestling coach at Stanford.
B.C. (Austin, TX): How are you enjoying the California climate as compared to Michigan? Really excited to have you as a 49er!
SportsNation Joe Staley: It’s beautiful out in California. I was telling my parents that it wasn’t even cloudy when I was out there for two months. I will miss the seasons, but I won’t have to drive in the snow.
SportsNation Joe Staley: Thanks for the support. Keep watching the 49ers this season. Go Niners!

Boucher, you nerdy little Bastard I’m typing fast and I don’t have time for spellchecks and grammer. Get the fucking point punk! Grow a dick and stop talking shit, you wanna-be 49er fan. I have my opinion, you have yours. You get defensive and angry when I discuss the Cowboys, I do not. Like I said before every true 49er fan hates the Cowboys with a passion. We will face them sooner or later and you will change your tune. (Probably not you secret Cowboy fan) I’m going to continue to be a diehard 49er fan and I will always hate those hicks with a passion. I hate those hicks, I hate what those arrogant, country- Dallas Cowboys stand for!
hey guys, the niners are getting a little bit of respect from foxsports.com
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7034516
Hey Ryan ,Ranked no.3 in the running game thats nice !!! Once again thanks for information. I for one do appreciate your insightfulness and your knowledge that you do bring to this site P.S dont let some the clowns on this site intimadate you.Just keep bringing it. GO NINERS!!!!!!
Thank you sir…..
You didn’t have to post the same message here cowboy humper, I saw it on the other post. The one with the picture of you and your boyfriend with your pet tiger. The only reason I didn’t respond is because you never say anything new. Just the same old Cowboys suck, blah, blah, blah. You sir are an anus.
Nice Bobby Boucher!
Ryan, you get all the credit for the posting and links! Bummer!
What is the bummer for….just asking? By keeping the site fresh with links we have something new about the niners because that keeps the topics fresh.
besides…..if Danny and Bobby weren’t posting then we would just have to deal with that other idiot who keeps coming back even though no one likes or wants him here.
Well, I don’t have any links for more 9er news, but what I will say is, I’m lovin some number three in the rushing game. It has been a minute since we could run the rock. I was feeling pretty zesty about our offense until sombody said somthing about Hostler and his first year. Maybe he is a natural.
Plus Dilfer will give us insight about what works on different downs. Right?
These players are a joke with the how high it is to live in the bay area try making 10 bucks an hour and make it there thats why i dont live there anymore
Has any1 played that game allpro football? If u have how is it? It has Montana, Rice, Lott, and some other ex niners.
Ryan what I was trying to say was that your getting all the credit. I was trying to make a little joke. Russ for Oregon was giving praise to you and that is where I got it from. No big deal. My point was I post links and info on here also and Russ was giving you all the credit. I know you do more work on here than I do, I was just saying bummer!
Shuttle Cock I must have missed something, I don’t understand what you are trying to say.
Check this out!

I think the niners are going to surprise some people this year.
I was just saying I don’t have any links for additinal info. But I was feeling good about our O until someone brought up a very valid point about our first year O corrdinater. That was all.
That was a great read Danny, especially the part about P.WILLIS becoming a defensive terror.Thats sick. I just hope that D.JACKSON and A.LELIE will live up to their expectations once again thanks if it wasnt for some of you guys on this site, posting links and info and such and keeping it real about the 49ERS there would just be alot of people just talkin smack to each other. So like I said before keep bringin it.GO NINERS!!!
Since Bryant Young is going to retire after this season,I’m wondering if he is going to be on the coaching staff next season.Because next season Mike Singletary will probley to leave to a head coaching job or defensive cord job some where and we will need a new speeker in the lockerroom like Singletary does now with his weekly speach.
Yeah, all of you niner faithful out their need to come to grips FAST that this IS Singletary’s last year with the niners. I don’t think we are going to be able to dodge that bullet any longer.
With Glenn retiring from the Colts, I think this is good for two reasons for the Niners. One, next year’s draft pick looks a little better. And two, the Colts are in emergency mode for a left tackle. Only a team in an emergency would offer anything for Kwame!!!!!!!
Read ALL of this and ponder why we shouldn’t be able to sign Smiley and then some other quality players at the end of this season. Larry Allen and BY are going to retire along with Derrik Smith, but when I read this it makes me smile because when those two players retire it is going to free up some salary cap room to add on to our 9.8 million we still have……of course that doesn’t include draft picks….I think…this article isn’t very specific. Why not sign Smiley and show Kwame the door?

Good stuff Danny, hopefully we will be able to work out a deal with Smiley, but their will a lot of competition from other teams to try and get him. I wonder if the niners would or could put the good ole franshise tag on him. Also did anyone else watch the video with RONNIE LOTT under yahoo sports.NFL,how sweet is that!! That guy bleeds Red and Gold GO NINERS!!!
I say slap him with the tag if we can’t sign him by the end of the year. There is NO WAY we should let him go…..I like Baas, but right now I am not convinced that he is as good as Smiley and we NEED GOOD o linemen…..NOT AVERAGE O LINEMEN!!
This Smiley busines worries me and I don’t know why. Nolan and McCloughan have made great choices so far and have really turned the team around, but with Larry Allend retiring it will free up another five million a year for Smiley. If we are going to try and stay successful then signing Smiley is this seasons biggest priority signing. We have solidified everything, but the o line and the d line. I say o line because yes, our o line will be awesome this year, but after this year we could lose potentially three of our five starters. That isn’t good. SIGN SMILEY…HE DESERVES IT!!!
The best scenario in my book…we sign Smiley to a long term deal soon. If that doesn’t work then tag him and try for the extension. I keep reading articles that Smiley is a very professional guy, if that is true and the Niners offer him an amount close to what he is looking for then the ball is in Smiley’s corner. The way I see it is Larry Allen will be retiring soon and if we loose both (Smiley and Allen) then we are not in good shape. We have decent backups, but nothing I want to start consistently. I have also read Bass will challenge Smiley for the starting position. Wouldn’t it be a great idea to have Bass replace Allen not Smiley? That makes the most since to me. Nolan had said that it all starts with linemen…He would eat his own words if he just let Smiley walk away. They have a plan. The organization has already sign Gore to an extension, with bad knees and a shoulder. Why wouldn’t they sign Smiley?
I am thinking of fishing…Baas not Bass
Danny, I agree with you completely, Nolan has done a great job so far, but this could be his first mistake in my opinion. If Larry Allen is leaving, which he IS GOING TO DO, then we have enough money to re-sign Smiley with his money. We have Baas and I am not saying that he isn’t good, but why should we let go of one of the most young and promising guards in the league when we could sign him. All of you niner fans need to realize that we are going to go o line and d line in the draft and if Smiley leaves, then I guarantee we go O line with our first pick (that is unless a Mario Williams falls into our lap). We are going to be good so we need to start being in the frame of mind that we aren’t going to be picking in the top 15…..we are going to be picking in the twenties for a while since we are going to be good this year. I am not trying to be cocky with that comment, but facts are facts…..we HAVE talent, we HAVE quality, and WE HAVE great coaching….I don’t see how we don’t make the wild card or the NFC West champs this year. Sorry, for ranting off like that, but my faith in my team is unwavering.
Ryan be patience, maybe Nolan is going to see how his shoulder holds up and then sign him to an extension. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Lots of things could happen in the future.
I know, but patience has never been my strong suit. I just know that Smiley is an asset to our team and I know that we will have the money to sign him. I hope you are right Danny. Smiley is worth it, but I hope we don’t wait too long for it because the scenarios after this season look like this; Allen and By retire adn Harris and Smiley Sign elsewhere OR Allen and BY retire and Harris signs elsewhere, but the niners RE-SIGN SMILEY. He would just change so much for us after this season. In my opinion…..he is A NINER AND DEVERVES to be paid…. listen to the posting you left…he wants to bleed crimson and gold this season…..he isn’t a prima donna. He is a professional and is about business and in no way is interested in causing a scene when HE COULD. SIGN HIM HE IS MORE THAN WORTH IT!!! I agree Danny, I do need to be patient, but it is hard because he is quality.
I saw this last night, and i looked for it on YOUTUBE and i could only find this shity version but thought you all would like to see what else nate is going to bring this year

KOOL!
Guys, here’s the deal on Smiley…
The past couple of years, Guards have been getting HUGE contracts. It’s nice to see some hogs get paid, but the problem is that before that, Guard was always considered a position where you could almost find a guy off the street to play. Guards don’t need to be paid the most these days. While it is valuable to have a guy who is athletic and can pull like Smiley, it isn’t a necessity when there are two guys sitting the bench (Baas and Snyder) who are still very young and have lots of upside. You won’t ever see us pay big Guard money because it is a generally replaceable position. When it comes to big spending on the O-Line, Tackle is where the money should be spent. Smiley is a good player, but the only player that might warrant the kind of money at Guard that Smiley is looking to get is Steve Hutchinson, who already got his big payday. Smiley is good, but he isn’t the kind of guy who is going to make the entire O-Line look better. The guy I’m more worried about replacing is Larry Allen. When he was out, there was a huge difference in the productivity of our line. I hope he re-signs for at least another year.
Big M, is Baas going to step into his place after this season? If not then who are we planning to use to fill that HUGE void….please don’t tell me we are going to do it in the draft.
Fenaca from steelers is the answer boys! (Or however its spelt)
9ers sign Goldson. 5 signed, 4 to go….
