Nolan and Co. to Coach Senior Bowl…Again
Matt Maiocco is reporting the Nolan and his staff will coach at the Senior Bowl for the second year in a row. Mike Nolan and his coaching staff did not expect it, but they are jumping at the chance to coach the South squad at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., later this month.
The 49ers lucked out because most of the teams ahead of them in the draft order are going through coaching changes. The Lions’ staff could have gone, but head coach Rod Marinelli was scheduled for hip-replacement surgery today, and will not be up for coaching.
Last year while coaching the Senior Bowl the 49ers took advantage of it by drafting Manny Lawson, Michael Robinson, Marcus Hudson and Parys Haralson who all played in the Senior Bowl last year.

leonard and shirley are huge, but they didn’t dominate. They did good in run support cuz they could clog the middle, but the dogs are a 4-3 team (like pretty much every other college team who isn’t a 3-3-5 team). it’s really hard to say how they’ll translate to NT’s since neither played that role. Honestly, besides Dwayne Wright and occasionally Paul Williams, this yera’s team didn’t have much to offer. Kyle Young should be a good prospect.

After firing Erickson, we find a gem of a coach whose dad was the head coach of our team way back when. This guy has been in the league for a long time and worked with a lot of great coaches, but was never a strong candidate for any head coaching jobs.
He is able to woo a rising young star in the scouting world named Scot McLoughan from Seattle to become our VP of Player Personell. I remember reading about the McLoughans and Scot especially about a year before this had happened. The article however was praising the Seahawks and how they had a successor to Scot’s father in line. Guess not.
We are able to get great position coaches such as Singletary, Jerry Sullivan, and Bishop Harris, all of which could arguably be the best of their position. We also get the first pick in the draft and are able to steal Frank Gore in the 3rd. Alex Smith is no concensus first pick but he will prove worthy of that shortly.
After a rough season, our shitty offensive coordinator miraculously gets a head coaching job at Green Bay, at the same time when Norv Turner gets fired across the bay. He decides to come to SF because he wont have to move and he’s worked with Nolan before.
Meanwhile, we had made some trades and gotten rid of players that wont be able to help us in the future and we are able to coach the South in the Senior Bowl, where we get some of the best seniors from the SEC and elsewhere.
We also have a high draft pick and win the coin flip over Oakland and are able to land a freakish athlete at Tight End while also making a trade for the pick where we took Manny Lawson, who would contribute mightily as a rookie. We would also find good depth because of our up-close scouting for the Senior Bowl.
During the offseason, we are only sign 3 known names and all 3 contribute mightily while providing mentoring for younger players. We also land Trent Dilfer who wants to move closer to home and can mentor our extremely young quarterback.
Meanwhile, all of the players we lost in free agency get serious playing time and we get draft picks for them. Most amazingly, Anthony Clement, who got beat constantly for us the year before, starts all year for New York so we get another compensatory pick.
Dont forget the two trades where we screwed the Skins. Lloyd for the draft picks and Rumph for Jacobs.
Now, we finish the season on a high note and produce two Pro bowl players, and still have the 11th pick in the draft.
After all of this, all the teams ahead of us in line to coach the Senior Bowl cant for some reason or the other so we get to do it AGAIN in an offseason where we have 40 mil in cap space and 8 picks in the first round. All we need is some miracle to land some amazing D Coordinator and the offseason to go smooth and we should all make sure we attend church before every game next season because we 49ers have definitely been blessed.

first we get eric steinbach.then we get nate clements.then we trade 25 cents and a 4th,5th or 6th for kwame harris.then start adam snyder and draft some one in the third or forth round as insurance.then draft like crazy on defense.
I’m pumped after reading Big M’s post. I’m amp’d to get these pieces in place, can you say March 1st (Free Agency begins). Lets snag the LB from Bal and Clement and we’re looking pretty going into the draft with 8 picks in the first four rounds.

I have a feeling that Nolan is going to be cleaning some house on defense to leave room for his defensive players that he is going to draft and sign. Look for Nolan to really get some scouting done with this North South game…this is what I was referring to a few weeks back. This is great for the niners to be able to coach the south because it gives us a huge scouting advantage before the draft.

i dont see us cleaning house.but maybe a couple of peaple,i think he will give derick smith one more year,maybe to train a rookie.maybe,t.j.slaughter,sammy davis,taylor jacobs,donald strickland and one of the back up tight ends.and maybe trade or release,kwame harris.if release or trade any big salary players then we will have some problems against our cap.
