Red & Gold Not As Black & Blue
Red & Gold Not As Black & Blue 7-9 Might Suggest

01.08.06 — I just found out that Nolan for his second straight year has been chosen to coach in the Senior Bowl. This is fantastic news. I was thinking just last month about how awesome it would be if Nolan could coach it again and get the inside track on some of the non-projected 1st-rounders to better utilize our 50 first day picks…and how that was almost impossible because the 10 teams before us couldn’t possible be as dumb as dog-shit. Thanks dog-shit! Okay, so canine feces may be a bit harsh, but I have a hard time understanding the logic behind backing out of the opportunity to measure players on more than their…measurables. Things like intelligence, work ethic, or natural intensity. You know, the things that were ignored during the Donahue administration. Well, this is the Nolan/ McCloughan administration, and it looks to be another good draft.
With 8 well informed picks in the first four rounds, a good draft last year, the NFC’s leading rusher, a quarterback who is starting to get “it”, a young team with another season of maturation under it’s belt, and 41 million in salary cap money to spend, we are definitely on the upswing. Even the media is starting to take notice. Some of these talking heads, pretending that they’ve been eyeing us since September, are now proclaiming us to be a probable playoff team next year. but hold on a second, lets not get too giddy. Remember, the media is known for it’s ignorant praise/criticism. I, for one, am judging based on what I have seen with my own eyes, and what I have seen is a team that should be growing into its huge potential with some added key free agents (shakes fist), and a potentially awesome draft for the second year in a row.
Do I think that we will make a run at the playoffs? Yes I do, and I hope we get in for Nolan’s sake, because I think he has this team on the right track, but this is probably his last year to prove it. It just seems to me that everything has sort of been falling into place ever since last off-season. With Green Bay taking away Mike McCarthy (who would have been nicknamed “the red scare” if ANYONE was EVER afraid of his offenses), only for him to be replaced by Norv goddamn Turner. Thanks again GB. I owe you a beer… or some crack, because apparently that’s your poison. Then comes April when Vernon Davis, who will be a monster if he can catch the damn rock, falls to us at number 6. Then we trade back into the first and grab Manny Lawson. Either Nolan is the kind of guy that makes things happen, or he’s luckier than a four-leaf clover taped to a hooker’s condom. Which may, or may not be saying a lot.
This is going to be an exciting off-season. And yes, I do think we will have the weapons to make a playoff run next season, and the coaching to see that it happens. But if we don’t, it’s my fault because I predicted it, and I am bad luck. And if you need to take it out on someone (kill them), my name is Ryan Seacrest. Look it up, I’m probably in the directory.
“he’s luckier than a four-leaf clover taped to a hooker’s condom.”
Some of the best writing I’ve seen in a long time, haha.
As for the article, I am also really excited. We Niner fans have a lot to be happy about.

i cant coment until we find out more on the coaching situation, whos the defensive cord. and now the special teams coach.and its not certain that mike singletary will stick with the 49ers because if we dont sign him as defensive coach than i have a feeling atlanta falcons could.so i will wait.

and defensive end jamaal anderson from arkansas who is 6-6 280 pounds and had 10 and a half sacks sounds nice for a 3-4 end,is skipping his senior year and declared for the draft too…..

Eddie the falcons got their coach last night, and did you guys know that the 9ers might have a home game next season in Germany or England?

vacationman- Haha…total brain slip. My bad.
eddie- yeah there are a few things up in the air, but part of what I was saying with that article is that I feel that even with the subtraction of those two coaches, I really do believe in Nolan. And I believe in his ability to even upgrade those positions. Shit, you cant go anywhere but up when replacing Billy davis, right? (knocks on wood). And while the STs guy was supposed to be really respected, I dont know that we’ll fall off much there. The onsides were all Lord Nedney, and we were giving up some pretty shitty yards on our kickoffs if I remember correctly. I wasn’t saying we had it all squared away, just that we sure as hell have reason to be stoked.
Thanks for the words guys.

I’m writing down your name Mr Seacrest,(lol) but with the way Nolan’s been improving the team and the number of draft picks we have, I’d think it’s a safe bet you live!

I would love to talk to coach Nolan about strategically bringing in some Michigan defensive players…if he read this blg he would know what I am talking about. Coach Nolan is going to draft someone from the big ten or the SEC with his first two picks…KNOW THAT!!! ALAN BRANCH IS THE MAN…embrace his power.

This is a direct quote from Brian Baldinger – SportingNews:
“The Cowboys should be kicking themselves for passing on outside linebacker Manny Lawson in the draft. They used the 18th pick of the first round on outside linebacker Bobby Carpenter, whose rookie season has been a washout. Four picks later, the 49ers took Lawson, who has displayed strong pass-rush skills in his first season. Frankly, if Lawson were in Dallas, the Cowboys’ season probably wouldn’t have unraveled the way it has. Sorry, Dallas fans, but it’s over.”
Let me exhale…ahhhh…one more reason why this past season was satisfying.

They have been improving, but I still see the same problem as I have in previous years,,,inconsistency. Just HOW can they sweep the hawks, beat the rams, broncos, and some other good teams, yet lose to the cards and cowboys?????????

Jim, I dont want to beat a dead horse here, but we’re an extremely young team(probably the youngest at the combined skill positions), and with age and experience comes maturity and consistancy. Also I think in some of those games where the D looked great, they were playing above their heads to some extent. Like I was saying with the article, we’re going to have at least a couple more big playmakers, and a whole offseason for Alex, Vernon, and even Gore to fine tune. As this team ages, inconsistancy shouldn’t be an issue.

I can only describe the niners franchise right now,it’s like that line from that song:”It’s only just begun”this is the beginning of a new dynasty.
