January 10th, 1982

Today marks the 25th anniversary of ‘The Catch’ perhaps the greatest catch in the history of the NFL (at least to Niner fans.) Well at least the greatest play in 49ers history. The play that started a Dynasty.

“It wasn’t until a couple of years later that it sunk in how important it was to the franchise,” Montana said. “I didn’t think it was a defining moment in NFL history.”

  2. I think maybe Joe cut himself shaving in the commercial he made with his current wife when they met! The catch knocked out the Cowboys and made the 49ers America’s team!!!

  3. yeah, that americas team bullshit about the cowgirls always didnt make sense to me. we are easily the most recognised football team on the planet. you still see more niner fans at visiting stadiums than any other team. not so much nowadays but i bet it all comes back in 07. the year of the NINERS!!! here comes number 6 fellas.

  4. http://www.superbowl.com/
haha watch the guy explain his idea…the 49ers are in it!!!

  5. I agree…I smell number six in the air.

  6. As we remember the catch, let us keep in mind the coach who started it all. Let us remember the coach who set the standard for the future of our franchise. The guy who Mike Nolan will live up to by guiding us to many triumphant super bowl victories. Bill Walsh, we shall remember and pray for your recovery from leukemia. Bill Walsh gave us much to be thankful for and we have much to look forward to as we kick some NFL ass and win with Bill Walsh in our hearts.

    -Go Niners!!!

  7. One of the best clutch catches I’ve ever seen, it started a dynasty no doubt.

Now it’s time to start a new one.

    NINERS FOR LIFE!

  8. it is the greatest catch in nfl history,in the greatest game in nfl history.it’s just a part in history just like when Elvis died.my grandpa always talks about when he was watching the game and he thaught montana was just throwing it away, instead dwight clark came down with it to beat dallas(americas team)and take the 49ers to their first superbowl.you couldn’t watch a better game,I don’t care who you are, that was the greatest catch, in the greatest game, thrown by the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

  9. steve sabol better be doin something on NFL films about this.

  10. That throw and that catch reminds me why I’m a diehard niners fan and for so many years,I was a little kid when I watch that play in history was in the making, makes me proud to be a 49ers fan, DAMN PROUD!
