Gore Extension Imminent?

From Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports:

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he expects talks with the San Francisco 49ers over a new contract for running back Frank Gore to “heat up” in the next few days. Those sentiments came shortly after Rosenhaus negotiated a six-year deal worth in excess of $32 million for running back Willis McGahee, traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

McGahee was the third running back client of Rosenhaus to receive a new deal in the past week. Fred Taylor signed an extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars on March 1 and Thomas Jones got a new deal after being traded by the Chicago Bears to the New York Jets on Tuesday.

“Obviously, [contract talks for Gore have] to heat up after where the market has gone the past week for running backs,” Rosenhaus said. All three deals were worth at least $20 million. The pacts were among 14 Rosenhaus negotiated or restructured for players in the last week.

“You’d like to think that a deal for Frank is imminent,” Rosenhaus said.

Perhaps, but Gore is just two years into his original five-year rookie pact. A third-round pick in 2005, Gore rushed for 1,695 yards on 312 carries last season for the 49ers.

But despite the obstacle of Gore having so much time left on his current deal, Rosenhaus seemed optimistic.

“The landscape for running backs has changed drastically in the past week and with the type of forward-thinking approach that the 49ers have, I would think they’ll be interested in getting something done,” Rosenhaus said.

  1. just sign gore so he can help his mom out with the kidney transplant.does any one know if some one signed the wide receiver fron bengals kelly washington yet?

  2. Thank you for posting this. Let’s get it done.

  3. Nice, get gore locked up. we have a 1500 yrd RB for at least the next 5 yrs….. draft willis or carriker

  4. I thought i heard a rumour that Gore mitch ditch Rosenhaus. I guess that isn’t the case?

  5. mitch=might….not trying to make a rhyme

  6. Git er duuuuune

  7. Sign him for like 5-6 years and we will not have to worry about a rb for years. Another thing is merriweather will fall to us at the 43rd player cus I heard the dolphins are lookin at sidney rice with their pick

  8. lets go ahead and lock him up i want to see the key players around A Smith locked up that way a year from now or maybe this year we are one of the teams in the NFC to be talked about i like what we done this offseason im so ready for the season to start i;m thinking playoffs

  9. fuck it! trade em and get another runningback that can stay healthy.only one good year and drew is jumping on another contract dispute.i hate drew.i wish he would get thrown of the san fran bridge by a few ownwers.he would sell his own mother he he got some kind of compinsation.

  10. IF he could get some compinsation

  11. and by the way sign antonio bryant back.its not his fault that he was wide open and alex smith couldnt throw him the damn ball.it was that peice of shit with hair kwame harrises fault for not blocking or getting holding calls for sexually assault at a ref in the ass.

  12. give gore the money he earned it

  13. LOL..LOl..who’s the guy who said we don’t have to worry about RB’s “for years” if we sign Gore to an extension?…LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!…One good blow to one of his surgery-repaired knee’s and you’ll be remembering the luxury backfield of Tyler AND Craig !…..One brave guy at ONE draft prediction site has the ‘Niners drafting Marshawn Lynch at #11. Not only does this guy have brains, but he’s got balls!! Or how about Mr. Leonard out of Rutgers? He’s the next Tom Rathman. Also, his stats proove he’s a good receiver too! We better do something about a decent back-up for Gore. Oh yeah, sign him to an extension—-forever!

  14. Why would the 9ers rework a deal that is already in place? Gore signed a deal he was probably happy to get as a third rounder. Now that greedy ass Rosenhaus is involved that means a new deal is imminent? WTF? Gore is good, sooooo far. His knees could go any day now. I say wait another year and let him prove his reliability. Then he gets the big score money wise.

  15. I agree! There is no need to get a deal done now. I say wait one more season and if Gore stays healthy and he has another monster season … then give him his dough. One good season under a master coordinator (who’s no longer here by the way) … not to mention behind Larry Allen (who has maybe 2 more seasons left) and a passing attact that was below avg. at best … should not equate to a monster deal.

  16. If Merriweather is available in the second we would be fools not to take him.

  17. Gore deserves his money. He especially deserves more than the $700k he’ll be making this year. I can’t imagine what his numbers would be if he was actually on a team with a winning season, where the team didn’t have to pass all the time to catch back up. If he was on a 13-3 team, where he could just run the clock away, he would have easily beat LT’s numbers and maybe the single season rushing record.

  18. I dont like the old uniforms why cant they use the 1994 uniform i like them.

  19. He’s got 3 years left, make him play at least 2 more years out to see if he can duplicate his latest production…If he does then pay the kid! he is the ultimate team player! as far as that prick rosenhaus goes, I hope he does’nt start any drama with this contract thing…after haveing a great offseason, the last thing we need is crap like this entering the new season…

  20. Ryan…. if Merriweather’s there when we pick in the second, I wouldn’t be surprised based on character concerns. We don’t know how poor his character is, because he was defending his teammates in that brawl, but that could still be a reflection of that, and recent players from the U tend to have those problems.

I think if Bowe or Gonzalez are there in the second, or possibly Woodley, any of those would be great picks.

  21. I highly doubt that Bowe will be available in the second round…if he is then take him, but otherwise….Hill is a great option.

  22. It’s unlikely, but it’s also very possible that Ginn won’t go as high as many expect. His size and the fact that he’s still raw may scare some teams off, and might cause a slide for receivers because the position is so deep, teams might pick a different position knowing they can get a good receiver in the next round.

  23. I do agree with you though Ryan, Hill would be a great choice. He has low 4.3 speed and performed pretty well in the shuttle (4.2 I believe), so he is just as quick as he is fast. I didn’t get to watch him during the season, but he played really well in the Senior Bowl and on one play put a move on Meriweather and ran right past him. I also like his long arms and he seemed to have good field awareness on the TD he scored on Texas’ Aaron Ross.

  24. Gore HIRED Rosenhaus. Accept that. He HIRED him to represent him, and get him as much money as possible! Running backs don’t have a huge window of opportunity. The NFL average for a Running-backs career is 4 (FOUR) YEARS! Only the very durable make it 7-10 years, and there ain’t many of them. At the ‘GBN’ web-site they write about how the good teams these days have a TWO Running back attack. I think we have to agree with their idea……. We need to draft another QUALITY back in this draft. Hicks is average. Look at the Colts and the Bears last year, for example!… Can you imagine Gore and Lynch together??!…Yeah baby…..TOUCHDOWN ’49ers!….I can dream if I want to…

  25. Also, I LOVE the idea of Hill too!!! Or Williams. And I like this guy Jones from San Jose state – in the 6th or 7th round. Jones will make it as a pro………Thanks for your time.

  26. James Jones, from SJSU – a true playmaker. watch for him to get drafted on the first day. He’s A LOT MORE explosive than brandon williams, and williams was taken in the 3rd round last year!

  27. Gore is our back and will stay our only back. No way is he going to split carries. He got held back because of that 2 years ago. Robinson is a good backup. No use in trying to throw him to the side when he’s only been in the league for one year. He also knocked out Brian Dawkins and made him cry. But the only question I have is, WHERE IS MONDAY MORNING PUNTER?

  28. pay the man!!!!!

  29. another wide out gone to the pats washington was signed for a shit load of money and he only cought nine balls last year… where are they getting all this money

  30. his agent is just fishing. Why pay $50 for something when you already have it at $30? Im not saying the niners wont, but the only bargaining power Gore really has is holding out and losing money, or playing like a fag and losing his teams respect. Id def wait one more year. One good year doesnt dictate $20 million. If he stays healthy and puts up some monster numbers again this year, then reward him. If his legs fall off in two years…sure we will all be pissed off, but understand where the niner’s were coming from.

  31. “Gore deserves his money. He especially deserves more than the $700k he’ll be making this year. I can’t imagine what his numbers would be if he was actually on a team with a winning season, where the team didn’t have to pass all the time to catch back up. If he was on a 13-3 team, where he could just run the clock away, he would have easily beat LT’s numbers and maybe the single season rushing record.”

Are you kidding? Gore is undersized and will never have the same stats as LT! He benefits from a non existent pass game because he gets the freakin rock all the time and he’s running behind Larry Allen, give that fool the contract. Everyone gives all the credit to the so called “skill player positions”. Gore is good, he’s under contract. If he was running out the clock he’d be averaging 2 yds. per carry. Let him produce more than one good season and then renegotiate, not now, especially with all the insane money that’s floating around this off season. Wait it out, there can be no repercussions to waiting.

  32. jeez, allright moto9er or should I say motocharger, yeah he’s not the same kind of back as LT but you got to admit he’s a stud.not bad for a guy who has had two knee operations and was the leading rusher in the NFC 3rd behind LT and LJ in only his second year in the NFL and first as a starter.

  33. kelly washington signed with the PATS,just to answer the question above.if question was allready answered I don’t really care cause I don’t read your posts!

  34. i would be soooooo pumped if we got branch, merriwether, in the first and second rounds…..we need a wide reciever tho..

  35. damn i was hoping we would sign washington.o well alot of worst shit can happen ! kwame harris was born.

  36. Just keepin it real Chinese Food, we all know Gore’s a stud and he’s under contract. What’s the prob? Why all the hype over what that leach Rosenhaus says? Why let him dictate what’s best for the franchise?

  37. ummm… Chinese Food.

  38. THANKS.chinesse food! i asked the question about.if anyone signed washington thanks again.

  39. Well since washinton is off the board then who’s next and I hope that dickhead rosenhaus don’t fuck up gore signing a new contract because he’ll try to get gore overpaid but I also thought I saw something on here that he was suppose to fire rosenhaus.

  40. “ninersmania”…First day? Really think so? That would put ‘ol SJ State on the map!…If I needed an agent to get ‘all ‘da money’ I’d get Rosenhaus as my agent! Not one of these fag agents who does a half-ass job and settles quick….How about all these guys at this site who think the ‘Niners payroll is comming out of there pockets..LOl LOL LOL Ha Ha Ha ah ha Lol LOl Lol Lol Ha ha ha..YEAH Gore should play for under a milliion this year because he hasn’t ‘prooved anything.’..LOl Lol Ha Ha Ha Ha He He He. NO, just over 1,500 yards for a team that didn’t even make the playoffs!!..LOl LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!!

  41. SJ state produced Jeff Garcia, you might’ve heard of him. There’s something called a salary cap JB, if you have a short memory look at the last 5 years results for the niners.

  42. what ever happend to andy lee did we sign him or is he a steeler now?

  43. Niners matched the Steelers offer sheet

  44. thank you,moto9ers.

  45. moto, did you not see any of the games we won this year? When we were leading in the 4th, they’d hand it off to gore and he would convert almost all the time. If we won 13 games and he had a chance to do that in about 10 games instead of 4, don’t tell me he wouldn’t have been the top rusher. I mean, LT is good, he’s awesome. I just think Gore has got his number. If niners go to the playoffs this year (which they will), you’ll read headlines that say, “LT Who?” This is the first healthy offseason gore has had since high school. He’s going to work on his finishing speed and all those TD’s where he gassed on will be no more this coming up next year. First year as a starter and is already a top back, just wait until next year. Don’t think that the passing game is going to take away from Gore either. It’ll only help him as he has proved that he can catch out of the backfield when no recievers are open. LBs will be stacking the box against gore and VD will burn them for TDs. Niners will be recognized this year. We will earn respect.

  46. i just hope with all the new coaching changes and new starters we jell together quick.remember greg manusky never a defensive cordinator in the nfl before and jim tomsula(defensive line coach) NO nfl experiance at all,and frank ciguetti no experiance in the nfl eather and jim hostler has no experiance as a whole offensive cordinator.and a new special teams coach.and i have a feeling we will have a couple of new rookies starting this year.i am excited about this coming up season ,i just hope we dont start offlike last year.in my opinion i dont see any differance between billy davis and greg manusky they both where line backing coaches with no defensive back experiance and they both came from wade phillips systeme.and we have a much tougher season than last years.with no lions or raiders this year.

  47. I WANT TO THANK ALL THE WONDERFUL FANS THAT USES THIS WEBSITE. YOUR SUPPORT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WEBSITE HELD ALL OUR LATEST NEWS, AND YOU KNOW WHAT IT DOES (ALMOST). I WANT TO LET ALL THE 49ER FANS KNOW, I, MIKE NOLAN WILL LEAD US TO THE PROMISE LAND. WITH THE 34 DEFENSE AND OUR NEW FREE AGENTS WE WILL BE IN THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. REST ASSURE THAT WE WILL BEING DOING MORE AFTER THE DRAFT. WE WILL DRAFT A DEFENSIVE PLAYER(REGGIE NELSON) AND LOOK TO TRADE WITH NEW ENGLAND FOR THEIR OTHER DRAFT PICK IN THE FIRST ROUND. WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR IMPACT PLAYERS TO BE DRAFTED. HEY, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT MY SUITS THAT I WEAR ON GAME DAYS? I KNOW, IT COULD USE SOME PIN STRIPES BUT, HEY IM A COACH NOT A MODEL. I’M GLAD WE GOT RID OF THAT OTHER RETARD OF A PLAYER, YEA THATS RIGHT THE OTHER NUMBER 81. THAT MAN COULDNT EVEN READ A PLAYBOOK TO SAVE HIS LIFE. THE MAN IS STUPID, I’M SERIOUS. ALEX SMITH WILL BE SOLID NEXT YEAR, NOT TO MENTION WHO WE WILL BE PICKING UP PRETTY SOON. HINT HINT, HE PLAYS ACROSS THE BAY. WELL I SEE THAT MY TIME IS UP AND PLEASE EVERYONE FEEL FREE TO WRITE TO ME ANYTIME.

    THANK YOU,

    MIKE NOLAN
    SF49ERS HEAD COACH

  48. hey nolan why is kwame harris still a niner?

  49. Mike, I am proud of what you’re doing for the 49ers organization, and for what you do for the San Francisco community in general. It takes a really committed individual to browse and post through internet forums to interact with the fans, while at the same time prepare for the upcoming draft late April. You are a couple of solid players away from making a serious run at #6, #7, #8…etc. Continue to draft well…this was the key to the success that we had back in the 80’s. Although I didn’t agree with your pick of Alex Smith as our franchise QB, I really do hope he proves me wrong this coming season. If you need any advice on anything at all, about football or just life in general, you know how to reach me. Continue with the great work!

    BW

  50. I was AT most of the games the last 2 years Maffis, and I will tell you right now that Gore would NOT have beat LT for the rushing title! LT is right there with Barry Sanders as the best RB to play the game. Gore is good no doubt and I agree he’s gonna have another great year but, he still has fumble fingers and his knees are precarious plus he’s a smidge undersized to earn that top spot in the NFL in my opinion. No. 2 aint bad tho, I’m not worried about Gore, this post is about Rosenhaus stirring up shit when his guy is completely locked up. NFL players are PROFESSIONAL athletes. Gore has a deal and he’s a team player, I expect he’ll live up to it like a man. After this year he’ll get his money.

  51. E fix the fuckin site.

Your site down= Me actually working

  52. Yes, that’s TOTALLY Mike Nolan. I believe it 100%. There can be no other explanation.

  53. hey guys at 8pm footballs most recent foulies is coming on the nfl net.i would be shocked if we didnt see a.bryant with his pants down again.

  54. now i beleave briggs wants out he said he will sit out the hole year if the bears dont trade or release him said today.but i dont think he will have a chance at getting him and plus he is a cover 2 WEAKside line backer.not a 3-4.

  55. LT and Larry Johnson are great backs, but if you look at the stats, Gore is right up there with them. Gore had 1695 yards on 312 attempts. LT had 1815 yards on 348 attempts. While Larry had 1789 yards on 416 attempts. If given as many attempts to rush as either of the other 2 backs, he would have won the rushing title IMO. Alwyays playing from behind cost him those attempts and us a few victories we should have won. Gore averaged 5.4 yards a carry. A little bit higher than LT and a whole yard higher than LJ. He also had more receptions than both LT and LJ. Touchdowns is a different story because of the fumbles he had on the goal line early in the season. If they would have let him work through those early errors, he would have been close to LJ in that catergory. It is going to take more than one good season to say he’s as good or better than those two backs, but he has the right mindset. We just have to hope his body holds up. So we should redo his contract, because he is going to be our workhorse for the next 2 or 3 years minimum.
    http://www.nfl.com/stats/leaders/NFL/RYDS/2006/regular

  56. hey niners rule they are last years stats. i want to see what he will do this year before he signs a new deal .plus if it wasnt for kwame harris holding or getting penalties on the right side we wouldnt have to run ONLY on the left side and be limited on what we can do with gore.LT has been healthy his whole carrier and gore has only been injury free one year sinse high school.

  57. C’mon guys. I understand that people want to be funny and sign in with fake names like Jerry Rice and Mike Nolan and such, but lets be easy off of Bill Walsh alright?

Whether youre a 49er fan or not, respect the fact that Bill is currently going through health issues as he battles Leukemia. I don’t mean to be a damper in this column, but whether you respect him for what he did with our Organization or if you respect him as great football mind in general, have enough decency not to use his name.

  58. How about the stats that says the NFC is garbage and the AFC is not. The Niners schedule was way easier. Crappier opponents mean better stats.

  59. moto9er..I was being positive about SJ State. Garcia isn’t ALOT to be proud of though. He’s only ONE player. Toomey was great addition for them. Almost a lucky break. I hope soemthing good happens to their WR Jones. He’s a good athlete. Also you misuderstood what i was writing about Gore. He is a good back, playing (at this point) for a below average team. I’m all to well aware of what happened to them and there undoing at the hands of their former coach and general manager. I’ve seen it happen twice to the ‘Niners in the last 30 years or so. Did you ever hear of Joe Thomas? You wouldn’t believe what he did…….Don’t anyone forget where the new QB coach worked the last few years – N.C. State and Fresno State. His hands-on experience with those palyers will affect our draft…..Go ‘Niners

  60. hey is drew rosenhous lanse briggs agent?

  61. yes sir

  62. thought so, thanks

  63. Briggs isn’t a 3-4 type of guy….although he IS TALENTED so who knows?

  64. I kind of hate this time of year….all is quiet on the western front.

  65. According to NFL Network’s Adam Schefter, Tennessee Titans free-agent linebacker Colby Bockwoldt is visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Bockwoldt (6-1, 237 lbs), who attended Brigham Young in college, has appeared in 48 games in two seasons with the New Orleans Saints and one with the Titans. He has had 156 tackles and two sacks in his career.

  66. Yeah I saw that earlier, at first I couldn’t make out who he was, now I know I’m glad you put his stats on here clements22.

  67. OHHHH I was asking about this guy….who is he? I seriously have never heard of him, but am hoping he is young and promising. We are going to take the NFC BY STORM NEXT SEASON….KNOW THAT!!!!

  68. OH! Ninersrule, that was a quality post about Gore. This even makes me more inclined to believe he is the top priority of the offseason. Injury clauses are probably a good idea and if Gore is a quality person then he will agree to them. We shouldn’t have to pay him for not playing to the calibur of a top five back….hands down the best in the NFC (I know that pisses off Lambs and Seachickens fans when I say that…he,he.) Let’s pay our BEAST and sign the linebacker ONLY if it doesn’t mess with Gore’s contract. Since everyone has the 1st and 2nd round pretty much broken down to a science (that means after you watch the falcons pick in the first and second round you will know who they are going to pick)….let’s talk third round.

  69. how many third round picks?

  70. hey ryan…..the best player avalable.hopfully offensive tackle and a back up corner or wide receiver or offensive guard if we go defense with the first two rounds.

  71. Here ya go Ryan, a website with links to about 90 mock drafts. I went through some of them and there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on who we will pick in the 1st round. Tough to predict the 3rd round. I’m thinking the approach will be best player available except the quarterback position. I’m hoping we go DE or WR in the 1st. Middle LB in the 2nd. OL and WR in the 3rd….
    http://www.huddlegeeks.com/Links/nflmocks.htm

  72. No wideout is worthy of the Niners pick at 11 except Calvin Johnson. I think Landry, Willis, Branch or Carriker are viable options. WR probably won’t be addressed until at the highest the 3rd round. It is a deep position with much value in the later rounds.

  73. Great 49ers Rb of the 80s and until now
    1)Garrison Hearst
    2)Roger Craig
    3)Ricky Watters
    4)Frank Gore
    Worst 49ers rb
    1) Derrick Loville (we could of had six or seven super bowls if we had a half way good running back)
2)Kevan Barlow (never seen some1 hit the the hole and fall so many times as him)
    3) Larwance Phillips for getting Steve Young hurt

  74. Garrison Hearst is first on my list cause I loved to watch him play Frank gore only has one good year so far so dont get to mad at my list

  75. It looks like the niners will probably sign bockwoldt, they met with him yesterday and again today, this is like a second job interview to let you know that you got the job and when to come to orientation.

But I can’t help but to wonder what’s going on with the offensive side, they need another reciever, will they address that in the draft? or who else they’re looking at? I wish we can get some news on what they’re trying to do and they need to address special teams.

  76. Oh yeah the bucs signed sammy davis, I hope he’s not going to be on the left or the right side corners, if so jon gruden will be stressed out FOR REAL!

  77. I hope they play Sammy Davis because WE play them this year and we will smoke them with Lelie.

  78. hey medford you forgot terry kirby lol!

  79. yeah but maybe he will do well in tampa because they are in zone coverage and not man to man…he did not fit with us and diego both 3-4 defenses

  80. let tampa sign our left overs.sammy davis isnt going to be a starter.lalie is going to burn barber into retirement like his brother cried him self into reirement.

  81. Let him play this season without injurys and give him a huge contract

  82. i just heard the pats are the new number one off season team and this is alex smiths year to shine with NO BULLSHIT EXCUSES.im still not sold on him. he has good quarters NOT good halfes or good games.we need a good back up.is there a BACK UP FOR THE 49ERS?and i dont wanna hear that it is happy birthday 35 year old trent dilfer because he is a teacher who didnt play a snap last year.we need to draft a quarterback in the later rounds.because we have a tough season this year and if we start with kwame harris smith isnt gonna last the whole season.

  83. I was watching the nfl network and the lost treasures 5 we had a tightend that wore #85 by the name of monte stiffin,WHOOOOOOOO he was mean and vicious than a mutha fucka, he said that when he got hit real hard he would comeback with a stiff forearm or chop to the neck and didn’t care if the player got hurt, had personal problems etc., and most of it was legal back in the day but THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT BABY we need some viciousness to the niners and guess who’s wearing #85 now, maybe he can bring some viciousness to the tightend position he already brought it to kwame harris when he left him hanging without a hifive in the endzone.

I agree we need a backup QB maybe troy smith will be available but he’s kind of undersized according to the scouts but there’s so QB’S in the draft.

  84. The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have signed first-year DE John Syptak and allocated him to NFL Europe.

Syptak (6-1, 253) was originally signed by Seattle as a rookie free agent on May 1, 2006 out of Rice. He was waived by the Seahawks prior to the start of the regular season and then spent some time on the New Orleans Saints practice squad.

  85. sounds like practice squad material.thats the second new orleans linebacker this week.are we trying to sign some saints left overs.

  86. hey ryan the first, mel kipers new mock draft has us getting dawayne jarrett now.

  87. Niners and Buc to propose new league rules……

OWNERS TO EXPAND REPLAY, CHANGE INTERFERENCE RULES?

When the NFL owners convene in Arizona later this month, they’ll consider two proposals for rules changes.

One proposal, offered up by the Bucs, would expand the scope of instant replay to cover all penalties except holding.

The other, proposed by the 49ers, would create two levels of defensive pass interference. For “severe” interference, the penalty would still be a spot foul. For minor interference, the penalty would be only 15 yards.

We like both ideas. If the purpose of replay is to use technology to rectify human error, why not make as many human errors subject to review as possible?

And, as to the interference rule, we think a modification of the spot foul provision is long overdue.

    Source… ProFootballTalk.com

  88. It STILL won’t happen. NO WAY WE TAKE JARRETT. Also, I will tell you why 1) he is VERY overrated 2)there are more talented players available with the eleventh spot because Willis, Carriker, and Ginn will still be available. Ginn is at least fast. NOLAN WANTS TO GO DEFENSE with the first pick….after that is anyone’s bet, but I know he will go with the most talented player available. The niners should go for the patriots first pick (#24) because there we STILL might have a chance at ALL of those players…well atleast Jarrett, Bowe , and Meechum. If not then I am willing to bet that SOME defensive talent will still be available that the niners will not be able to pass up. We NEED to get that pick. If we do then we will stick to our word of seven NEW starters. Otherwise it is a gamble unless a steal falls to us in the second round.

  89. how come all this new shit has to happen to the 49ers every time we fucking play ?it really doesnt matter what rules they put out there.nfl is becoming like basketball. you cant play defense with out a FUCKING penalty.and wide receivers show boat because them and the quarter backs are the primadonnas of the nfl.you cant touch a receiver or the quarterback with out penalties.i would of loved to see keyshaun johnson, terrell owens or chad johnson 10 years ago. they would have been in the hospital more than on the football field.

  90. That’s what I’m talking about jerry and that’s another reason I brought up montey stiffin but he played tightend for the niners back in the day and he was vicious.

  91. I agree, the wide outs are REALLY acting like drama queens. Why be that childish??? JUST SHUT UP AND PLAY……oooohhhh that’s right wide outs are KNOWN for that now. It is pathetic.

  92. we will go jarrett watch he is not overrated u tard he is a playmaker he destroyes everysecondary he faced he makes plays doesnt matter about speed if you cant make plays ur worthless pick jarret or you will regret it he is 6,5 200+ a force amazing hands can take a hit thats the safest pick at 11 i hopr we get him 49ers4life

  93. whats the newesr niner news

  94. If Jarrett runs a 4.5, I can see us taking him. We have a speed guy. We got a great possession guy that can go over the middle. What we are lacking is a tall jump ball guy. Jarrett and Davis would be hard to defend in the red zone. We’ll have to see what the USC Pro Day brings.

  95. HEY 49ER FANS, THIS IS LANCE BRIGGS. I WOULD LOVE TO PLAY FOR SAN FRANCISCO AND FOR YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS ARE TRULLY REAL FANS. KEEPING UP WITH THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE FOOTBALL TEAM. I GREW UP IN SACRAMENTO/ELK GROVE, THATS ABOUT AN 1 HOUR AND A HALF AWAY FROM THE BAY, AND I WANT TO COME BACK HOME. I WANT TO BE THE LEADER ON DEFENSE AND MAKE IT A SICK OF A DEFENSE AS POSSIBLE. COULD YOU GUYS IMAGINE THAT? NATE, MIKE LEWIS, AND ME(HARD HITTING PLAYERS, OR AS YOU ALL MIGHT SAY “KNOCKOUT PLAYERS”) WILL HOLD ANY OFFENSE IN THE LEAGUE. PLEASE, DONT ASK ME WHO I WATCH GROWING UP, YOU ALL KNOW I WAS A LOYAL NINERS FAN. TO PLAY FOR THE NINERS WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE BUT ONLY IF STINKEN CHICAGO WOULD TRADE OR RELEASE ME. HIGHLY DOUBTED IT. THAT DEFENSE WOULD CRUMBLE MORE. I KNOW I SAID PUBLICLY ABOUT NOT WANTING TO PLAY IN A 3-4 DEFENSE BUT HEY I’M A HELL OF A PLAYER WHO CAN MASTER ANY DEFENSE. TO BE HONEST, THE NINERS AND ME ARE SERIOUSLY DISCUSSING TRADE RUMERS THAT MIGHT BRING ME BACK HOME. I WANT TO PLAY IN FRONT OF MY OLD BOYS BACK AT HOME (DUKE, LITTLE JOHN, ONE EYE, KRAYZIE BEER, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST LAWRENCE). DAMN, IT WILL BE NICE TO BE BACK IN CALI WHERE THE BEST NINER FANS LIVE. LOOK FOR US TO GET THIS DEAL DONE AFTER THE DRAFT. PLEASE, DONT QUESTION ME, YALL KNOW THAT THIS TRULLY IS “THE BIG BRIGGS”.

    PEACE,
    LANCE BRIGGS
    EX-CHICAGO BEAR

  96. wattup “Big Briggs”

  97. Jeffri Chahida from cnn/sports illustrated:

    3. San Francisco is making the best moves

San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan continues to put his team in position to challenge for a playoff spot.

Last season the offense matured with the emergence of second-year quarterback Alex Smith and Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore. This year his defense has a chance to improve dramatically. By adding cornerback Nate Clements, who was arguably the best available player in free agency, Nolan ensured that his secondary had a proven playmaker who can hold his own against the likes of Torry Holt, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Deion Branch in the NFC West. The 49ers also scored by landing outside linebacker Tully Banta-Cain and strong safety Michael Lewis, who should benefit from a change in scenery after struggling last season in Philadelphia. If Nolan can get Lewis back to Pro Bowl form, the 49ers could be the most improved team in the NFL this coming season.

  98. Gore is the future, we don’t! want to see him go to Hee-Haw land with the dallas cowhicks. This is our year, i’ts are year to kick those corndogeating, wrestling watching midwest hillbilllies to shame and show those hicks who the true Americas team is!

  99. Big M. You made an extremely good point about dwayne Jarret, I never really thought about it like that. If we were to draft Jarret, we wouldn’t have the best reciever trio in the league, but atleast they bring different things to the table making it harder for opposing defenses to defend.

Just think about the Washington Redskins for example, they invested their money on free agency getting Antwaan Randel El and Brandon Lloyd, both pretty good but didn’t differ, too much, in style compared Santana Moss; and by having such a similar group, it didnt prove to be very effective.

Does anyone happen to know when USC’s pro day is?

  100. I believe it is March 28th. Jarrett or Ginn would be good 1st round draft picks for the Niners. Here is a list of dates….
    http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts#calendar

  101. HEY LANCE BRIGGS I DONT WANT YOUR WYNE ASS ON OUR TEAM.YOU NEVER PLAYED IN A 3-4 LINEBACKER AND IF SOMETHING DOESNT GO YOUR WAY YOU JUMP SHIP LIKE OWENS.PLUS OUR TEAM IS SET AT LINEBACKER AND SAFTEY.PLUS YOU WOULD COST TO MUCH.WHAT IS YOUR ASKING PRICE FOR A BACK UP?

  102. I say forget about Jarret! These are other wideouts to pick in the draft. Example:1.Aundrae Allison 6’1-192,4.3-East Carolina 2.Paul Williams 6’1,205,4.4-Fresno St. 3.Jason Hill 6’0,204,4.3-Washington St. 4.Steve Smith 5’11,197,4.4-USC 5.Craig Davis 6’1,207,4.46-LSU 6.Robert Meachem 6’2,214,4.39-Tennessee 7.Ted Ginn Jr. 5’1,178,4.30-Ohio State 8.Sidney Rice 6’3,200,4.47-South Carolina 9.Dwayne Bowe 6’2,221,4.48-LSU 10.Mike Walker 6’1,209,4.35-Central Florida. As you can see,we don’t need Jarret because there are alot of playmakers that will be a deep threat especially after the catch. All of these wideouts have the speed to take it the distance from anywhere on the field.

  103. Sorry about the error on the heights of the wr’s but yeah like I said they are play makers. I’m sure one of these wideouts will slip to the 3rd round, definitely the 2nd round! Niners should pick Dwayne Bowe and Jason Hill. That would give a defense a nightmare all day with all that speed added with A.Lelie. GO NINERS!!!!

  104. WE NEED TALL RECEIVERS WHO HAVE SPEED EXAMPLE: HE’S NOT AVAILABLE “MAURICE PURIFY” 6’3 -6’6! BIG AND PHYSICAL BIG TARGET SOMEONE WHO WILL GIVE THOSE SMALL CORNERS AND SAFETYS PROBLEMS WHEN COVERED.

  105. TALL RECEIVERS WILL BE A GOOD TARGET FOR SMITH TO SEE, IT WILL SPREAD THE FIELD LONGER FOR MORE YARDAGE.

  106. Tall receivers will be alot more available on being open, vs. having a smaller receiver down the field who’s covered by safetys, corners their own height. The exeption to a small receiver is steve smith, but thats a rare and unique find. We need tall receivers to spread the field I’m tellin ya! look at the sucessful tall receivers in the league T.O. the sellout traitor, and marcus culstan- saints 6’3 – 6’4, stevens seahawks to name a few.

  107. Give us any receiver who can run the same route at the goal line that Jerry Rice scored on tons of times…. line up left….go in motion…head towards the line of scrimmage, then cut to the front goal marker, catching the ball 6 inches inside the goal.

  108. nolan is looking for receivers who mainly can block thats why he likes ashley lalie and battle.lalie used to be with the broncos and remember when shanahan was with us when we went the 49erswent to ower last superbowl and shanahan likes receivers who can block too so lalie has practice at blocking in shanahans systeme.so yes bigger receivers are better in that point of view.

  109. I’m sorry to disagree with you all, but I just don’t see us drafting Jarrett in the first round. Unless Calvin Johnson falls to us then we are going defense in the first round. Yeah, Jarrett has picked apart some secondaries, but besides Michigan, which ones were GOOD. The PAC-10 doesn’t have any defensive teams in that conference. Jarrett was a non-factor against UCLA, and so what if he did well against Notre Dame (there secondary was the weakest part of their team). Between Ginn and Jarrett I have mixed feelings because of the factor that Ginn can return kick-offs, but strictly as a receiver I WOULD take Jarrett. Bring on Patrick Willis.

  110. Yeah, Jarrett is 200 pounds…….and not an ounce more.

  111. nolan is a defensive genius… i dont question his selections on defense.

but his judgment on selecting offensive playeres is a little ifffy

  112. When the fuck is a new story going to be posted. “Gore Extension Immenent” has been posted since the 11th. We have done nothing since? If this isnt the place for fresh news somebody let me know where it is.

  113. WOW! Someone is angry!!!

  114. Yo I got to agree with W Gaines this shouldn’t turn into those other articles like the porter, ashley lelie, or the banta cain articles that posted damn near 500 comments but at least we were getting some fresh news in between, it went from us getting clements to this gore extention imminent since the 11th like W Gaines said.

WE NEED SOME FRESH NEWS GOD DAMMIT!

  115. yeah ninersmania, drafting frank gore, vernon davis, alex smith, and adam snyder or signing larry allen and moran norris pretty iffy huh?

as far as blocking receivers, the best in the draft is by far Dwayne Bowe. I would love it if he somehow ended up on our roster, but it’s unlikely.

  116. that’s worth of a deal

  117. Very nice offensive points Big M =) lol

  118. Gore is under contract in 2007. Next year, the 49ers can virtually assure they retain Gore with a high tender as a restricted free agent. The 49ers would have the opportunity to match any offer sheet Gore signs, and if they decline they would receive first- and third-round draft picks. In 2009, the 49ers can lock up Gore for another season as the team’s franchise player. In essence, the 49ers could keep Gore around for the next three years at an expected total price tag of around $13 million

  119. HI MY NAME IS BRANDI AND I AM A BIG FAN OF FRANK GORE.HE IS A AWESOME PLAYER AND HE’S THE THIRD BEST RUNNING BACK IN THE NFL IN 2006 AND I THINK HE DESERVE A NEW CONTRACT BEFORE 2007 IS OVER.
