Timing was Right for Gore…

Matt Maiocco has a nice write up regarding Nolan discussing the contract extension for Frank Gore and how he says the timing was right for the extension.

“It was a little early because Frank just finished his second year. But as we said, if you identify somebody you want to have that is a good player, that you want to have around for awhile, it’s good to get it done early because the longer you want, the more expensive it gets.”

  1. good article…sounds like they want another rb (good)….his name is michael bush (3rd rd)

  2. Greg you are absolutly correct. Right on the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ bro…

  3. watch petrino steal bush right from underneath us in the 3rd…fuckin falcons

  4. why we need bush when we have robinson

  5. Why do you guys want Bush wehn we already have Robinson. He just got a rod inserted in his leg and isnt able to work out for any teams. We need a durale back up running back. Not someone who might not be at full strength when he comes back.

  6. dont get me wrong i love robinson i love penn state also…but bush is a great rb where robinson is a great athlete…bring in bush get rid of hicks…then we would have gore and bush with robinson as our third down and short yardage back

  7. bush is a first rd talent but because of a injury is falling in the draft just like gore….you want to surround your team with talent…plus his injury is a broken leg its not like he broke his neck he will be fine…if bush didnt break his leg he would of ran away with the heisman and would be a top 10 pick competing with adrian peterson for the first back taken in the draft

  8. Hey guys….LOOK WHO IS ON THE FRONT OF FOXSPORTS.COM’S NFL WEB PAGE!!!

  9. nice thanks ryan rollin with nolan

  10. Greg, I say B+ to a A- because the niners do a great job in the draft, but they are failing to find the gems in the seventh round….even though that is a crap shoot. I’m sorry, but I would rather of had Marques Colston than Hudson….it is just a simple fact. If we were to do a better job (which is EXTREMELY HARD) in the seventh round and sixth then I would give them an A. I say this because ( I hope I’m wrong, again) We shipped Vaughn to NFL Europe and Hudson isn’t showing me thus far that he is going to make a difference, but as far as everyone prior to us selecting Hudson then we did AN AWESOME JOB. Melvin Oliver looks like he is going to pan out, but our late secondary choices from last years draft wasn’t so good. NO OFFENSE intended towards the niners. I am still really satisfied in the job that they are doing. Playoffs….here we come. I have this odd feeling that in the fourth round we are going to draft some players at positions that aren’t a HUGE need and we are going to be saying, “huh”. However, they will probably turn out to be good players. Like, for example, Delanie Walker I think will be a GREAT player with more time to show his abilities.

  11. well ryan the 1st I think if everyone knew how good marques colston was going to be he would have been a 2nd round pick with 1st round potential. fact of the matter is its hard to judge that late in the draft just who is going to pan out and surprise some people. its not like can just go i know he’s gonna be great. also can’t shoot down last years rookies just yet while hudson hasn’t shown anything really at all yet it was his rookie season.

thats where this is directed at everyone just to many people jump on rookie’s who don’t perform well right out the gate in that first year. ITS THERE ROOKIE SEASON GIVE THE GUYS A BREAK. let them learn the game get up to the speed of the nfl. u have to give players 2-3years atleast. just so they can get up to speed some will get there faster then others but just because a player may develop slower does not mean he wont be just as good if not better. you have to take into account just the amount of talent a player has to have just to get drafted into the nfl. If a player is drafted theres something about him that caught a coached eye. and even if he doesn’t turn out to be a great player, backups and ST are nice players to have too. Lets not judge anyone to quickly give the guys a chance.

Nolan has done a pretty great job with the way he is putting together this team. he’s doing it the right way rather then going out there and creating cap hell like the 49ers just went through. with a solid draft again this year playoffs could and should be callin the 49ers. and while i don’t see superbowl like many fans are dreaming about i am realistic with it. just a playoff berth even if its a first round loss shows this team is improving year after year and that a superbowl could be soon within next 3 years maybe but dont want to get ahead of one’s self.

  12. good deal if gore dosent get injured and i wouldnt draft bush robinson is good

  13. Ryan – I actually didn’t get your point about 7th round gems. I mean, if there are such high potential players, than someone certainly will pick them before. So shouldn’t be the focus in such late rounds to get special team players or just practice competitors. Of course you mentioned the hardness of the job, but I got you that way, that one can find productive players in seventh round by doing a perfect job on scouting. In my opinion to find that kind of player is more due to luck than anything else- hard work included.

  14. Darrell Jackson Sea WR..is still a possibly trade 4 us…. wouldnt mind seeing that go down…

  15. GORE, GORE, GORE!! Glad he resigned a new deal. Now I can wear my Frank Gore jersey proud till 2011. Now we need a new stadium!

  16. West, I just read the same thing….

  17. dont argue over something we dont have.we dont have a 7th round pick this year.and sometimes the seventh round players dont have the presure that the first and second rounders do.like that wide receiver from the saints he wasnt invited to the draft and didnt didnt have to go threw all the nfl draft work outs and was fresh durring training camp.

  18. two words…….darius walker..

  19. easy 2nd rounder doon’t think he’ll fall into the third.

  20. who do you guys think for the first round?patrick willis?or meacham and or bowe?

  21. Meacham! Just for the hell-of-it!! The guy is an animal. He will be long gone by the start of round 2. Take a chance. We’ve got plenty of picks………

  22. branch,branch,branch……..we need to stop the run upfront first.then get dave harris in the second,,,,,and then jay moore in the third.

  23. Meachum isn’t worth the 11th pick either. I am sorry to say that because I already KNOW that he is going to be a good player, but we have issues to address. That would be an awesome draft for the niners if we got them both…..a little Michigan action, but I think that we are going to get a wideout HOPEFULLY in the 2nd round (I am hoping Nolan isn’t going after a wideout in the 1st). We shouldn’t draft people that aren’t the most talented players available simply because we have a lot of picks. Branch is something that I could smile at, but not Meachum (at least with the 11th pick).

  24. we need to put some fear in other offensive back fields and that starts up front with the first three defesive lineman and we need a defensive tackle to do that.we have only average defensive lineman at best.yes…i know we have b.y. but he is going to retire soon and on the down side of his career.we need a stand out starter, and that we dont have.we need tank tayler or branch….some one dominate like casey hampton, richard seymour orjamal williams.

  25. Ryan again- What issues are you talking about? A franchise 3-4 nose tackle? A MLB to give long term depth? An end in terms of replacing BY? A wide out as deep threat? The question to be answered is: which of them is the most important? I mean the front seven will do for next season (AND the playoffs!), so will the backfield and the O as well… What do you think about Rice in the 2nd?

  26. we have a deep threat, ashley lelie!! adam carriker, alan branch or patrick willis will be in a 49ers uniform at the start of this season.

  27. as for rice in the second round…..i wouldnt mind him if he is still avalable.but i still would like paul williams.

  28. I’m with Jerry on this one….one of those options work and they go 1)Willis 2)Branch 3) Carriker for me. These guys will answer problems. Carriker would answer the BY hole after this season and Oliver is looking like a starter after the type of play he gave last season, but we need depth as well because the guys we have as backups are not good. Douglas is alright, but I would rather have Mebane than him and as for Ronals Fields, I would rather have Kareem Brown. These are all DT’s that we could easily get. Yes, we do need to draft a receiver and we most likely will….in the second or third round. We can’t be using the 11th pick in the draft on a receiver unless his name is Calvin Johnson and this isn’t going to happen.Franklin IS GOOD, but he I would rather see him as our back up nose tackle or atleast have Willis if Franklin is going to be a our starter this year.

  29. if you want another tom wrathman running back draft brian leonard from rutgers-as far as that 11th pick we need okoye(probably wont be there)or carriker-then trade k.harris and d.smith and hicks and 2nd round pick to buffalo for willis

  30. i think we would take branch over willis…he is so big and would be instrumental to the whole defense…i agree i think franklin is better suited to be a backup BUT he could get us through the season….i dont see branch getting by the redskins or the dolphins but if he gets to us we will in my worthless opinion probably select him…because of the skins and fins we will most likely get willis though which i would be the last to complain…if any of you are interested which your probably not here is my board for the first pick at #11….johnson, adams, landry, branch, willis, meachem or bowe, then carriker but if all those guys before willis including willis are gone by 11 then trade back…what do you guys think….sorry for long message about nothing but i am bored with all of the NO NEWS

  31. for those who say draft a nose tackle, name 5 awsome nose tackles in nfl history, or draft a linebacker, name 5 awsome linebackers in nfl history, alot easier, linebacker def better choice

  32. I agree that Willis is a better choice, but I also think that Branch is going to shut a lot of people up because of all the negative publicity he has been getting lately. Tell me this….if Jamal Anderson falls to us (which he won’t) is he the automatic pick.

  33. nolan will choose willis over branch because nolan was thrilled coaching willis at the senior bowl

  34. threr arent that many awsome nose tackles because all the linebackers make the plays but here are 5 good ones i think.keith traylor, jamaal williams, casey hampton, sam adams and chris jenkins.linebackers kevin greene, joey porter, tedy bruschi, ken norton and greg loyd.

  35. okay now that we got Gore out the way, it’s now time for Nolan to look for weapons for A.Smith to throw to. Seriously what good is the defense stopping people if the offense can’t put the ball in the endzone? I say the 49ers are making a good decision if they are making an effort to get D.Jackson because he has alot left in the tank and it would be great for depth. We CANNOT relie on what we have already, including Ashlie Lelie. Arnaz Battle is improving but his stats are #3 wr type so now we need stats that would look like 800-1100 yards from a #2 wr and now is the time to get it done.

  36. does any one know how much money is left in the cap.

  37. and i think b.y. and melvin oliver will be slitting time this season, unless one of them gets injured this year.d1800,i like to have d.jackson.because he always had good numbers against us.but this was the second year in a row where jackson has had alot of time off because of injuies.and if seatle felt like he could play with out injuries, they would have asked him to take a salory reduction instead of trying to trade him.but that is just my opinion.

  38. i am pretty sure our cap is $11,652,018 after gore’s contract…we still have room about 4-5 million after the draft

  39. i guess that means we are not going to get anyone else till after the draft.depending how much our first round pick cost.

  40. did you guys forget about a guy named manny lawson, hes gonna surprise everyone this upcoming season just like gore surprised everyone last season but i agree a talent like willis cant be passed up if hes available and we will have one of the best lb corps ever but 2nd round reciever will be great as well with the rest of the picks on defense…we really need some help on defense

  41. btw next seeason solely depnds on alex smith 100% its quarterbacks that win games im sure gore will be cool next season not as good as this one and i hope they dont play him as much and tire him out and make him end his careeer early but yea like i said itss all about A S, vernon davis will be a fucking monster, and with so many draft picks this year i just hope alex smith has in mind what the niner fans do and thats to bring back the greatest football team in the history of the world… and to those who talk about what famous d-line players do you know thats the point its a group effort you cant just fucking have one good d-line player and think that your set theyll double team him you need an all around good d-line thats why we shouldnt waste our 1st round on d-line but definetly get some good 3rd or 4th round rookies that will spend a season learning from BY and giving manny lawson, patrick willis, and mike smith some room to fuck other teams quarterbacks in the ass

  42. watch that link derek smith sucks im not the only one who thinks that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UvydkWlPZM

  43. Check this one out great penalty Smith u got ut ass put on the ground http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1ce66QjOKI

  44. I agree with Greg..

  45. I wish some new news would come up about us trading some picks for a higher pick.

  46. This has been the longest Off-season in NFL history. Only 54 days have passed since the Super Bowl. We only have to wait for another 163 days before we see our Niners, play the Monday night opener against the Cardinals. DAMN THIS SUCKS!!!! My thought on the draft…. stick with the 11th…. take Willis… 2nd round firts pick…. take Rice WR…. trade up for another 2nd rounder and get a DE. The rest is up to Nolan. To me, out of everything thats been said that makes the most sense.

  47. BRING ON THE COWHICKS AND THAT TONY ROMAN NOODLE. I READY TO KNOCK THOSE SCUM BAGS OFF THEIR HIGH HORSE. IT’S TIME WE PUT THEM IN CHECK, AND THE NATION IN CHECK THAT THOSE GUYS REPESENT CORNDOGEATING MIDDLE-AMERICA NOT THE REST OF AMERICA. THE 49ERS REPRESENT CLASS!

  48. WE REPRESENT AMERICA, NOT COWHICKS!

  49. Hey Jeff, if your source is sf49erscap.tripod.com it’s not current. It does not reflect the Colby Bockwoldt or Frank Gore’s new deal. By my estimations we have approx. 9.5 million left. (FOR WHAT ITS WORTH) key word APPROX.

  50. dano i got the cap figures from ninercaphell.com…the sight stays pretty up to date and if you look at the 2007 cap figures bockwoldt and gores contract are in there…thats where i got the 11,652,018

  51. website i mean

  52. 6th round pick on Jacoby Jones? WR from Lane College. ^’2, good speed and quickness. ESPN article saying he could be the Marques Colston of the draft.

  53. 6’2

  54. Wow those figures are the exact same to the dollar without the two signings on sf49erscap.tripod.com check it out. I like your figures way better then mine. If thats the case lets give up our first round pick and get Briggs. We would be able to swing it by making a few cuts. (Kwamme Harris) Thanks for the info Greg.

  55. yeah i have been wanting jones for awhile there is a good interview with him at nfldraftcountdown.com…he wont be available in the 6th rd though…we would want to use one of our seventy fourth rd picks on him and i hope we do

  56. i wouldnt care at all if the only wr’s we drafted were jacoby jones and paul williams i think they are both going to be great…then we could use our higher picks on other needs like FS,OT,DL,michael bush! I would love meriweather in the 2nd that would be awesome…first two picks willis and meriweather or branch and meriweather…that would be SWEET

  57. I agree Greg. Any chance he could slip to the 5th round? If not, use that last fourth on him!

  58. Yeah or Aundrae Allison from East Carolina, he runs a 4.39 in the 40 and I’m sure he would be in the 3rd round of 4th. Or even Rhema McKnight from Notre Dame. That guy can block real good and he put up 15 TD’s last season from Brady Quinn so he has the knowledge to learn from an NFL play book because of coach Charlie Weise. I’de be happy to get him!!

  59. If I’m not mistaking, jerry in one of the last articles asked does anybody knows how much money the niners are under the salary cap?, and there is alot of names being mentioned on who everybody would like to see get drafted and we’re all saying who we like and who reminds us of whoever but as we all know we need a solid draft and we need to fill those wholes that we have on our team wisely and with solid strong players.

I guess what I’m trying to say is the draft is not coming fast enough and we’re not sure who these other teams will pick and that this whole draft thing could be shaking up so what if the player that the niners are looking to draft or who we all might want is taking before the 11th pick or any of these other rounds, the second best players to the niners just might not fit the bill, this is the nerve racking thing about the draft, who draft board can be shaking up and we might have to go with somebody that’s second best on our draft board and if so then what.

We all need to take a vote on who we all like in what rounds and realisticly go over it and think does he’ll really fill the whole and is he the best player for that position and do it without name calling and any controversy so we all can take a majority vote on that player and if the niners pick that player then we’ll be on her putting in our comments on how happy we are about getting that player or players like when we drafted vernon davis, but at the end of the day I want to see all of us true niners fan happy and let’s kick some ass in the up coming season and for years to come GO NINERS.

  60. Well then here is my vote. First round choices 1)Willis 2)Branch 3)Carriker 4)Trade with the Pats Second Round Choices 1)Brandon Merriweather 2)Sidney Rice 3)David Harris 4)Best available D linemen or defensive player Third round 1)Best available D linemen and wideouts Fourth Round 1)Best available O linemen and a running back.

  61. Have you told Nolan yet Ryan?

  62. If we don’t get Willis I say draft Okoye. This guy has much upside. I believe he would benefit greatly under Bryant Young. Second Round Brandon Merriweather or David Harris. I like Anthony Spencer, but he will be gone. He looks like a player with some nasty about him. After that I am open just want the best players available for our team. Oh !! please replace Kwame, and we need a another RB just in case. I like Irons from Auburn or the other back Henry.

  63. I forgot to mention I would take a look at Buster Davis from Florida State in the later rounds. I also like Michael Bush.

  64. What are you guys feelings about Aundrae Allison from East Carolina ? I think he has the potential to be a No.1 WR. in the future. He doesn’t mind coming cross the middle and he is a speedster. As a bonus he can return kicks.

  65. I got to see some more tape on him can you tell me where I can watch some highlites on him?

  66. Hey R,Craig33 if you want to see some highlights of Aundrae Allison then just go to youtube.com and type in his name in the box and you will get more then enough film on him or any other player.

  67. I really like Rhema McKnight because he had 15 TD’s last season, runs a 4.50 6-1, 215 pounds and blocks like a damn offensive linemen. I seen him play alot because my lil brother Mo who is now playing for Tampa Bay and McKnight were real cool friends at Notre Dame. He would be a steal in the 4th round.I would love to have McKnight and Allison and that speedy WR from Virginia Tech. They would kill any #3 CB from the slot position. Trust me!!

  68. I know one thing, we can scream defense all we want but we ranked 29th in passing yards and that is NOT a sign off a playoff team at all. Hell we couldn’t beat the Cardinals because we didn’t have A.Bryant for one, and A.Smith didn’t have no reliable weapons other then A.Battle and V.Davis. Davis had better stats then Battle in that game and Gore kept dropping everything thrown at him so we need to think about that for a while. I don’t know about you guys but I don’t like being 29th in anything we do. Maybe this season we might get some stats out or Brandon Williams and Bryan Gilmore because that is too much speed for them to just get 5-15 catches combined. I’M OUT.

  69. first round,justin blalock,second round-jay moore third round brandon mebane,third round-buster davis,fourth round-paul williams,forth round- h.b.blades fourth round te.- clark harris forth round-jacoby jones,5th round- derik landri 6th round-kolby smith. theres my mock draft.

  70. i would want it to look like this being realistic with the picks we have currently
    1st rd #11 -Willis ILB
    2nd rd #42 -Meriweather S/CB Miami (Fl)
3rd rd #76 -Bush RB Louisville
3rd rd #97 -Williams WR Fresno State
4th rd #104-Harris OT Notre Dame
4th rd #110-Jacoby Jones WR Lane
    4th rd #124-

  71. shit sorry lets try this again

i would want it to look like this being realistic with the picks we have currently
1st rd #11 -Willis ILB Mississippi
    2nd rd #42 -Meriweather S/CB Miami (Fl)
3rd rd #76 -Bush RB Louisville
3rd rd #97 -Williams WR Fresno State
4th rd #104-Harris OT Notre Dame
4th rd #110-Jacoby Jones WR Lane
    4th rd #124-Baraka Atkins DE Miami(FL)
4th rd #135-Paul Soliai DT Utah
    5th rd #147-Derek Landri DT/DE Notre Dame
6th rd #186-Mario Henderson OT Florida State

That is a draft with a lot of talent what do you guys think

  72. do you guys know how awesome this sounds….manny lawson and pat willis..on the same team…that woud be freekin sweet…both young and future pro-bowlers.

and somebody up top said rhema Mcknight from ND,I have to agree, Rhema is good,I watched him play oppisite jeff samardzija, the only thing I have against him si he had a lousy game against USC, he dropped 5 easy passes.

  73. Greg, that was quality.

  74. ye i also like paul soliai, louis leonrd.i thought we had enough safties and outside linebackers.didnt we just pay,banta-cain tully and michael lewis a bounch of money to start?i think our focus should be on the defensive line , inside linebackers and wide receiver and a gaurd, since larry allen is in his last year of his contract and he probley will retire as a dallas cowfucker.and im not sold on harris from norte dame.unless he plays center.and isnt bush injured again for a second time?and not sure when he is going to heal.

  75. bush had his second surgery…he had a pin taken out or reset something minor he wants to be ready by training camp…meriweather would start opposite of m. lewis and he can also play corner …he can play any DB position on the field and play them well(Great Talent), we have baas and snyder to replace larry allen…williams and jones both will surprise people in the NFL at WR….mccloughan seems to like harris i read in an article thats why i stuck him in there…they like athletes who are captains and from big schools…which he is…i guess i am confused …we have a lot of backers but willis is a top talent that would solidify the LB’s…we already have the depth there…why do you want so many ILB’s Jerry

  76. I think we should pick up darius walker or kenny irons as backup for Gore.not saying that mike robinson is bad,but we should have someone with a little more experience…because we have to be realistic…Frank Gore could get injured this year…

  77. we shouldn’t pick a lineman before patrick willis, look at houston last year,Marrio williams, didn’t do a thing, then they draft a LB,dameco ryans,he only got defensive rookie of the year.

  78. did any chargers defensive lineman make it to the pro bowl?I don’t know. but I do know who made it.Shawne merriman.patrick willis could be the next shawne merriman.think about it.

  79. You’re right “Kernal” – all the top teams have TWO good RB’s! Have you heard of the Colts, Bears, Saints, Pats…? If the ‘Niners don’t get another QUALITY back, Gore is going to get burned-out. I say draft another back. Not a ‘conversion.’ You can never have enough good RB’s!

  80. what if patrick willis becomes the next derek smith?

  81. To me Bush is out of the question… I really dont see why we should draft anything outside of DE, LB, WR and OT in the first 3 rounds. After that go nuts, but we to fill those holes before anything else.

  82. Regarding Willis = Smith. Anything could happen, its the draft. But Nolan has a great feel for good players. I honestly don´t fell he has picked any busts yet in the first 2 rounds. The one I think he´s going to stay away from is Branch for character issues. Nolan won´t pick a player who is not giving 120% every play of every game. I do think Willis is that leader we´re missing.

  83. if you could choose, will it be willis or carriker

  84. i really think willis is a cover 2 inside or outside linebacker.just like alot of people thought last year we needed moss last year because he had a good senior bowl.but we never got him and just like brandon williams (the one we drafted) both had no impact at all last year.

  85. I really hope we don’t draft Levi Brown, but according to sf49ers.com he is sounding kind of like a dark horse pick of ours. NO!!! Get a lineman later on.

  86. well ryan the 1st,you said it your self….kwame harris ssssucks.and jonas jennings barely healthy.and the other back ups arent stepping up. so we do need one.unless for some odd reason we can trade up to the and draft joe thomas.in the mock draft i just made i said we would get justin blalock.remember defensive end in the draft is deep with dept.

  87. I know, but not in the 1st round…..wait a round or two to address this problem. I realize that o line is important, but we could handle it without using our first pick in the draft to do it.

  88. we’ve always made mid to low round offensive linemen into probowler thanks to good ol bobby mcCittric.Bless his soul.We seem to have a decent o-line coach

  89. i miss the west coast offense,we run the turner/raven run offense now, where you need maulers instead of short area pass blockers.

  90. i hope gore can work on his speed so he can finish some of them long runs for touchdown next year.

  91. HEY GUYS CHECK THIS OUT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUU_A9ZTmyk THIS IS WHO WE NEED TO DRAFT DWAYNE JARRETT GINN JR IS TO SMALL

  92. Jarrett isn’t going to be a niner unless we trade down in the draft. It just isn’t worth the 11th pick. If we were in the twenties then yes, but not with the 11th. So, like I asked before…..what do the niners do if Jamal Anderson is available at number 11 because it is sounding that he is falling to our range just like Branch.

  93. MARIO WILLIAMS- HE’S DEFENSIVE END AND WHAT THE HELL HAS HE DONE – TACKLE,DEFENSIVE END ETC. THEIR SIGNIFICANT, BUT OFFENSE IS WHAT WE NEED FIRST PRIORITY 1! RECEIVERS LIKE LIKE JERRY RICE RICE T.O. WON GAMES FOR US IN THE SUCESSFUL YEARS LOOK AT OUR DEFENSE THE IMPORTANT DEFENSIVE PALYERS WE HAD WERE HANKS, DAVIS, SANDERS, THAT NEED HAS BEEN MET BY AQUIRING NATE CLEMENTS, MIKE LEWIS , HAVING HARRIS, SPENCER, WE NEED A COMPLEMENTED LEGIITAMENT REIVER TO ASHLEY LELIE OR WERE NOT GOING ANYWERE RYAN THE 1ST. YOUR GOING TO BE PISSED COME NEXT YEAR WHEN OUR ASSES ARE SITTING AT HOME DURING THE PLAYOFFS WHEN T.O. AND THE ALLAS COWHICK GANG AND PATS ARE AT THE SUPERBOWL, BECAUSE THEY FILLED THE NEED AT RECEIVER. DOES TACKLES OR DEFENSIVE BACKS OR DEFENSIVE IN COVERS RECEIVERS POINT MADE WE FILLED THAT NEED TO COVER THAT TRAITOR T.O. SO JUST KEEP SAYING WILLIS OR WHOEVER BUT THAT WILL NOT DO SHIT FOR COVERING THE ELIT RECEIVER IN THE PLAYOFFS. WE NEED TO PUT SIGNIFICANCE ON RECEIVERS FIRST SAFETYS, AND CORNERS. IT’S POPULAR TO PICK ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS AVAILABLE AT DEFENSE IN LEWIS, BUT YOU CAN’T ALWAYS JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER ALA MARIO WILLIAMS HE WAS HIGHLY TOUTED AND WHAT HAS HE DONE,JACK SHIT. SURE IT WAS HIS ROOKIE YEAR, BUT I’M NOT SURE ABOUT THE REST OF YOU I CAN’T WAIT NO LONGER I WANT TO WIN NOW! That is the old 49er mentality! lets do this

  94. I’m not looking at the book by its cover…..Jarrett did horrible at his combine. Ginn is going to be injury prone now and is skinny as can be. He isn’t going to be able to take REAL HITS at the NFL level. We need to stick to the “Best Player Available” policy. Also, Lone Texas 49er, I am NOT going to be sad this next season because the niners are going to make the playoffs. You should have a little bit more faith in your team. We DO HAVE a corner that is going to make some receivers cry….his name is Nate CLements. DID YOU HAPPEN TO SEE HOW HE TREATS NUMBER ONE RECIEVERS…………HE SHUTS THEM DOWN!!! We WILL address the receiver issue, but NOT WITH OUR FIRST PICK. Unless you have someone like Calvin Johnson then the rest are kind of a crap shoot. Look at the receivers that were taken in last years draft in the first round……none of them did that great. We need a defensive leader at the middle linebacker and that is why 70 percent of the people on this site want the niners to draft him. Everyone at ESPN, FOXSPORTS, and SI.com all agree about ole Jarrett….he is going to be a possession, number receiver period!!!! AND IF YOU ARE REALLY A NINER FAN THEN YOU DONT MENTION TO!!

  95. well WHOEVER we get ill be happy with.it isnt like you can take the player back to the store and get a refund.i trust nolan/company that they will make the right desision, alex smith vernon davis and manny lawson werent bad in the first round .we only got one former first rounder who needs to be released(kwame harris)but nolan didnt draft him.

  96. RYAN THE FIRST READ MY PARAGRAPH ABOVE I SAID WE GOT SAFETYS CORNERS ALREADY THROUGH FREE AGENCY I MENTIONED NATE ALREADY, YOU NEED TOREAD BETTER. I’M PART OF THE OLD SCHOOL NINER FANS, AND I’M SURE IN THE EIGHTYS YOU WERE PROBABLY IN DIAPERS, WE ALWAYS BEEN OFFENSE FIRST DEFENSE SECOND. I DON,T WANT TO WIN 2-5 YEARS FROM NOW, WE NEED TO PUT THE IMPORTANTS ON RECEIVERS OR OTHER WISE YOU WILL BE COMPALINING ON THIS SITE WITH ME AND EVERBODY ELSE. I KEEP SAYING AND LISTEN LOOK AT MARIO WILLIAMS, DID HE WIN IN HIS FIRST YEAR. NOOOOO. DID MARQUES COLSTAIN WIN IN HIS FIRST YEAR. DO THE MATH, AND DON’T EVER QUESTION MY LOYALTY AS A FAN. I’M DOWN HERE IN HILLBILLY LAND WERE EVERYONE AND THEIR GRANDMOTHER IS A DALLAS COWHICK FAN AND I SHOW MY SUPPORT FOR THE 49ERS AT GAMES DOWN HERE AND EVERYWHERE ELS. I KNOW IT’S A SHITHOLE BUT I’M HERE AND DON’T HOLD THAT AGAINST ME, IT SUCKS!

  97. THE FIRST I RESPECT YOUR YOUR VIEW AND YOUR RIGHT, I JUST WANT TO WIN NOW, AND HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MENTION YOU NOW WHO, CALL HIM SCUMBAG, TRAITOR. FOR NOW ON HIS CODE NAME WILL BE TRAITOR IS THAT GOOD, I HATE THAT GUY AS MUCH AS YOU DO. i RESPECT LOYALTY! AND THATS GOING EXTINCT THESE DAYS.

  98. I’LL MENTION AGAIN AND READ ABOVE, MARIO WILLAIMS WAS PICK IN THE FIRST ROUND NUMBER ONE CLOSE ENOUGH TO OUR PICK, AND DID HE BRING HIS TEAM ANYWERE NOO. MARQUES CULSTAN- HIS FIRST YEAR LAST SEASON WERE DID HIS TEAM GO TO THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, SEE OFFENSE WINS GAMES QUICKER, WE HAVE THE CORNERS, AND SAFETYS, WE NEED RECEIVERS, RYAN I WANT WHATS BEST FOR OUR TEAM I WANT TO WIN NOW, I DON’T WANT TO SEE THE DALLAS COWHICKS NEAR ANOTHER TROPHY I WANT US TO BE THE FIRST TO WIN 6 AND BEYOND.

  99. RYAN I THINK THAT YOUR WRITE ABOUT WILLIOS BEING A LEADER, WE JUST NEED TO COMPETE WITH THE OTHER TEAMS AT RECEIVER AND NOW WERE NOT. DEFENSE IS COOL WE NEED MORE POWER AT RECEIVER! AM I RIGHT!

  100. RYAN READ THE ABOVE, I WANT TO NO JUST GO TO THE PLAYOFFS I WANT TO GO TO THE SUPERBOWL THATS THE OLD 49ER MENTALITY.

  101. ANY SEASON SHORT OF A SUPERBOWL RYAN, I’M SAD. EVERY YEAR OUR PLAYERS NEED TO EXPECT TO WIN A SUPERBOWL OR GET THEIR, NOLAN PHILOSOPHY IS EXPECTING TO WIN, THATS THE OLD BILL WALSH TRADITION THE FIRST.
