we are young but at the same time we do need a go to Wide out and up grade the d line we have alot of draft picks so i dont see any reason why we cant get what we need in the draft i;m looking foward to us being on of the teams in the NFC West this coming year
jeremy said this on April 10, 2007 at 6:16 am |
I agree yesterday on espn the 49ers were on the clock and mel kiper jr said if he had to lean toward picking WR’s or DE’s with the 11th pick he said he would go DE and he said he would pick alan branch but we need WR’s and if I’m not mistaking I think it was marshall faulk who said we should go WR to get alex smith some more weapons and that we need receivers.
I don’t know I’m very confused on where should we go with the 11th pick.
R,Craig33 said this on April 10, 2007 at 8:37 am |
with the 11th pick and the teams in front of us its a toss up on which way to go but the good thing is ….is that we have alot of picks in this years draft we can trade some of those picks to get a wide out early in the 2nd round i like the guy from LSU all i do know is that i want us to get to the top and stay there like we once were that way guys will want to come to us even more
jeremy said this on April 10, 2007 at 8:43 am |
i say go after a defensive tackle first because there is alot of dept at defensive end, safties, corners and wide receivers this year and then in the third go after some offensive line help.
larry said this on April 10, 2007 at 9:22 am |
Patrick Willis is already a niner with the 11th pick. Kiper has never been right and Faulk is just as stupid. It’s common sense that P. Willy is comin here. That way we don’t have to worry about anymore starters for our 4 LBs.
King Maffis said this on April 10, 2007 at 9:45 am |
Patrick Willis will be a niner only if someone that picks in front of us doesn’t pick him first to either keep him or use him as trading bait because some teams HAVE TO KNOW that Nolan wants him bad. So don’t think a team like the texans or dolphins aren’t thinking this or are above pulling this move so they can acquire more picks. And another thing….don’t think the Bills aren’t capable of jumping in front of us to try and get him because they would love to have him as well.
Ryan the 1st said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:02 am |
Nope, Cariker will be a Niner before Willis will be. Don’t get it twisted, Willis is nice, but Cariker is our guy.It makes way to much since to go with a DE.
Corey said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:34 am |
i think it would be funny if we got an offensive lineman with the first round pick and made everyone wrong.
jerry said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:44 am |
Absolute certain that Carriker is a 49er in 17 days from now! Might as well get a jersey with his name on the back!
Dan said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:47 am |
Either way, we’ll have a good option. Carriker or Willis is a win- win situation. I doubt some team picks willis in spite of us like some of you have mentioned. Both players will put our d on anther level.
will G said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:49 am |
I say the 9ers trade the 11th for the 24th and the 28th overall and they take robert mecheem out at the 24th. He is going to be a pro bowler within 2 years. Then get a D line player at the 28th.
Scott said this on April 10, 2007 at 10:53 am |
first round take a defensive end second round defensive lineman then get a m.l.b. and with the rest of the picks take nothing but receivers

MY HARRY SACK said this on April 10, 2007 at 11:22 am |
Yeah, besides the Snyder idea, you aren’t making much sense. How can you say that it is a for sure thing. They only way we take Carriker is if Branch, Willis, and Anderson aren’t there at the 11th pick. Carriker would be a great pick up, but I still think that the chances of us taking someone else are much better.
Ryan the 1st said this on April 10, 2007 at 11:37 am |

larry said this on April 10, 2007 at 12:24 pm |
Well you’re right Ryan 1st. Its not certain, but I agree with Will G. Either Carriker or Branch or Willis will put us on another level. The defense is Already Upgraded but the icing on the cake is April 28 & 29! MAKE SURE TO SET YOUR ALARM and go ahead and order the 07 Draft T-Shirt! Its doesn’t matter who we draft because I’m ROLLIN’ WITH NOLAN!
Dan said this on April 10, 2007 at 12:35 pm |
Draft Willis or Carriker at 11, then trade back into the first to pickup a WR (Meacham, Bowe, or Jarrett) or FS (Merriweather, Nelson, Griffin).
Then trade Smiley for a 2nd or 3rd, and trade back up into the 2nd round to get an impact defender or wide reciever (Rice, Hill, Gonzalez, Davis).
JDUBB said this on April 10, 2007 at 12:51 pm |
Just because the draft “experts” are saying we will get Carriker, I am going to say that at 11, he isn’t worth the pick for us. He is a guy that would make sense for New England down the draft, or maybe Pittsburgh before them, since New England will like to change its looks ala Richard Seymour. As far as Pittburgh, it could give them the opporunity to move back and forth between the Tampa 2 and 3-4.
If Willis is there, HE IS our guy. MLB is a bigger need for us than DL. our DL is 2-deep at all 3 spots, so we cna stay fresh with a good rotation. Imagine our LB corps with Lawson, Willis, Moore, and Banta-Cain. Then our top notch secondary. Our Defense would be top 3 in my opinion.
After that, there isn’t much need to trade into the first again. We should keep our second because there is good depth at WR and the top 4 safeties are 1st round material, but I highly doubt all 4 will go in the 1st. If we can grab Michael Griffin in the 2nd, we take him. If he’s gone, we could look at Jason Hill, unless Gonzalez, Jarrett, or Rice slip, which is somewhat unlikely.
Big M said this on April 10, 2007 at 1:14 pm |
I’m an idiot, but I would rather have Jason Hill than Gonzalez. I would rather us go after Griffin than any of those receivers except Jarrett. Big M, haven’t heard from you in a while.

draft jason hill and in the second and paul williams in the third round.
fuck it said this on April 10, 2007 at 2:28 pm |
NO WAY WE DRAFT BOTH OF THEM!!! We might get one and I say it is more likely to be Jason Hill, but not both that early. Plus, Paul Williams has some character issues that we don’t need. That draft scout didn’t sound too high on him when he was asked if he thought the niners would go after him.

If Willis is around the 11th pick, Nolan will draft the Best Player Available, and that my sons is Patrick Willis. There is so much more depth in DE than LB’s this year. We can surly get a DE who is just as good as Carriker in the later round kids, so quit assuming we will get him with the 11th pick. We’re not. Face it. Patrick Willis is our man.

Sorry if you think that 25thrilla, but the topics I am speaking about are the only ones available (which aren’t that much during this time of the year). My opinions are just that, ONLY MY OPINIONS, but I am sorry that it has made you so upset, but I am willing to bet that I am NOT THE ONLY ONE who wants us to take Willis and NOT A RECEIVER WITH OUR FIRST PICK. Also, my last opinion about the rumored trade was probably right on……it was a very unlikely rumor. Why would the Patriots give us their 28th pick overall for Derek Smith (who probably won’t be in the league after two more seasons) when they could probably acquire him for a 4th or even a 5th rounder? Again, sorry if I offended you, but I am entitled to my own opinion…..welcome to America.

I have a feeling that even if Jarrett does FALL TO THE SECOND ROUND that the Falcons will pick him up anyways. THat is why I am not getting my hopes up about Jarrett in the second round. When you look at the teams in front of us in the second round there are a couple of teams who I really be shocked if they didn’t pick him up with their second pick.

I got this off of 49erswebzone, check it out….
“ESPN.com has confirmed that there have been some discussions between Atlanta and San Francisco officials about Harris, a player to whom the current 49ers staff has no innate loyalties, since it didn’t choose him. Word at the annual league meetings earlier this week was that the 49ers have already turned down an offer of third- and fourth-round draft choices for Harris from another franchise interested in him, so the Falcons might have to go a bit higher than that to land the three-year veteran, and they might be reluctant to do so.”

49ERS DEFENSE LOOKIN LIKE MIKE NOLANS DEFENSE WHEN HE WAS N BALTIMORE..
When Mike Nolan took over the reigns as the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator in 2002, he inherited one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL. In his three years as DC, his units averaged a seventh place finish in total defense and ranked in the top six in points allowed and yardage twice.
The base 3-4 that the Ravens employed at the time is what Nolan has been attempting to convert the 49ers’ defense to over the previous two years, but without much success. However, with personnel upgrades on defense via free agency, and with the impending selections in this month’s draft, the 49ers’ defensive roster is becoming increasingly similar to the Ravens’ during Nolan’s tenure in Baltimore.
Defensive line:
The Ravens really didn’t have a dominant DT to rely on in the post-Tony Siragusa era under Nolan. Instead, he preferred space eaters like Kelly Gregg, Ma’ake Kemoeatu and Marques Douglas to occupy dual blockers, freeing up ends like the speedy Michael McCrary and blitzing outside linebackers like Terrell Suggs who occasionally lined up at DE.
Speaking of Douglas, he and newly signed Aubrayo Franklin played in Baltimore under Nolan and have seen his system work before. Their previous experience, combined with the presence of veteran Bryant Young, make the Niners’ interior line look very comparable, and perhaps better than the group Nolan assembled in Baltimore.
The same cannot be said for the defensive end position, however, unless the team drafts a player like Nebraska’s Adam Carriker or Clemson’s Gaines Adams in Round 1. Roderick Green, another former Raven, could excel over the course of a full season if the way he played at the end of ’06 is any indication.
Linebackers:
It could be argued that the personnel at linebacker is what makes or breaks a successful 3-4 defense. Looking at the Ravens’ depth at LB in the Nolan years, it becomes pretty obvious why the team was so successful. Anchored by Ray Lewis in his prime, the star-studded unit also consisted of Adalius Thomas, Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott and then-healthy versions of Edgerton Hartwell and Peter Boulware. With the exception of Hartwell, each of the other four players have made the Pro Bowl at least once. The Ravens easily overwhelm the 49ers’ current talent at linebacker; then again, though, it may have been one of the best LB groups ever assembled.
Secondary:
The Niners moves in free agency make their unit a near-mirror image of the Ravens’, if only on paper. The role of Baltimore’s Chris McAlister is played by the Niners’ Nate Clements, and second CB Gary Baxter is matched by Walt Harris. Former Raven Corey Fuller is played by San Francisco’s Shawntae Spencer, and Ed Reed’s equal at safety is Michael Lewis. To expect a similar level or production doesn’t seem like a stretch, but there is no guarantee the players will develop the same kind of chemistry as the Ravens’ unit did. But the 49ers’ secondary will certainly be improved by comparison to last season.
The one glaring area where the Niners need to find a playmaker is on the outside edge, whether it’s a defensive end or a linebacker. Brandon Moore is solid, and Manny Lawson showed promise in his rookie year, but the unit needs a playmaker if it is to become as dominant as the past defenses in Baltimore.
How a team looks on paper doesn’t necessarily transfer onto the field, but nevertheless, it’s interesting to see Nolan is finally implementing his system. In what will be his third season as the head coach in San Francisco, Nolan finally has the pieces in place to make the 49ers’ defense one of the NFL’s most improved in 2007
