  1. Man, 4 prime time games (well, for me on the east coast) can’t wait.

  2. Fa sho

  3. man what a schedule we got our work cut out for us AFC North wow but ……………..if we want to get better we gotta play the best and this is a good start

  4. WE WILL BE LUCKY TO GO 7- 9 AGAIN THIS YEAR WITH THIS HARD ASS SCHEDULE.THERES GOING TO BE A FEW INJURIES THAT WILL MAKE A INPACT ON THIS TEAM THIS YEAR.

  5. I live in philly and those primetime games that it seems like we’re going to get will be probably get blocked out by some nut ass eagles game if it’s shown by fox or some other game that is played by a east coast team so let’s see if the give us all our games as schedualed.

  6. MNF here we come!! Niners are making the playoffs this year.

  7. I see a strong season, but it will be hard to come by. That schedule is defintely not one of the easier ones. We really have to play well within our division, or else the season is lost. Hopefully we can catch teams like the Giants in there yaerly ‘funk’ where the lose a large stretch of games. I would hope to play a team like Minnesota early, where as T. Jackson will have had over 10 weeks of experience before playing us. We have a chance for a little redemption against the Saints, they visit Week 8. I like the Bye at Week 6 too. We can have a good 2 weeks prior to a pivotal swing game in the Meadowlands vs. the New York Giants. Go 9ers-

  8. I really dont think it is that hard of a schedule…our hardest games are at home which is great…if we are consistent than we will be fine…the AFC north isnt what it was a couple years ago…steelers are worse, browns suck, the ravens are good and so should the bengals but we are at home against them…be thankful we arent playing the AFC EAST or AFC CENTRAL….both the AFC NORTH and the NFC SOUTH like to pound the ball, so we need to be able to stop th run,,,there will be a lot of grinding games this year………………………..CAN’T WAIT!!!

  9. Cardinals have the easiest schedule, then the Bears, then Us. Don’t see where you guys are getting that we’re playing a hard schedule.

  10. Guys are game look easy so dont coplane i smell playoffs and i know ther are going to be some close game but we favor in most of thoes games any way so i dont think that we are going to be in any blow out witch is goog because we were in like 5-6 blowouts laster year and i think that we are going to have few injuries this year and were not on the road for more than 2 games in a row thats dam good and we have a 3 game home strech at the end of the season and finsh with the browns so things look really good for us plus we looked realy good in the spot light on nfl network last year so i thing that we have a dam good shot at wining every game we play in so go niners playoffs bound of us this year !!!!!!!!!!!!

Bills, Raiders have toughest 2007 schedules
    ESPN.com

    • The AFC is better than the NFC: Certainly that’s not a very big surprise, but it’s even more apparent when you look at the strength of schedules for 2007. Every team in the AFC has a strength of schedule of over .500. The Lions (.504) are the only NFC team with a strength of schedule of over .500.

    • Kicking the Raiders while they’re down: The Raiders finished with the NFL’s worst record and were rewarded with the hardest schedule in 2007. The Raiders don’t get any breaks in the AFC West, with all six of their divisional games coming against teams with better than .500 records.

    • It pays to be in the NFC North: One year after having the NFL’s easiest schedule, the Bears check in with the second-easiest schedule (.465) this season. Chicago’s three divisional foes were a combined 17-31 (.354) in 2006.

    2007 Strength of schedule
Team 06 Opps. win %. 06 Opps. wins. 06 Opps. losses

    Bears .465 119 137
    Cardinals .461 118 138

    ———

This chart is kind of crazy. The Packers should have a better % considering their opponents record is better than the Cowboys. Also, the Seahawks have the same record as the Cowboys but a less %. Who knows.

  12. thats crazy

  13. hey king i think we are playoff bound dont you

  14. the hole nfc west is in the top 9 of the easiest

  15. any one got something to say about the niners!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Go Niners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Ginn. 4.3 in the 40. What you douche bags think?

  18. I still say don’t draft him with the 11th pick because he is very fragile…..he will be hard to catch, but if he gets hit in the NFL (One really good hit) he will done. We can’t draft someone that fragile. If we have to draft a receiver then draft Meechum.

  19. true, ryan, but consider this: Ginn Jr. would solve two problems: WR and he would give us an excellent return specialist..i see him being an almost devin hester-type returner, cuz hes special..he returns the first kickoff in the national championship(though they got smashed on).. devin hester returns the first kickoff in the superbowl(though they lost)..co-inky-dink?but with all that said, I’d still rather draft defense first, with D-end and LB our most prssing needs(other than a WR).

  20. ..and yes, if anyone knows about meachem, trust me, its ME.. i seen him live, and I felt like I never wanted to see him again..unless hes in red and gold..

  21. the only problem with ginn is that, yes, hes too small, and he is kinda raw when it comes route running;at THE ohio state(lil joke), all i saw ginn running was crossing routes and hitches
(the routes to best utilize his agility), and of course fade routes, he barely ran other type routes..Anthony Gonzales is more crisp when it comes to that..to me.

  22. Lets all smoke some weed

  23. sullivan likes big receivers!onlythe only small receiver sullivan had was brandon williams and he is only a kick returner.

  24. 49ERS ARE GOIN 9494949494-949494949 OF GAMES WON, PATHETIC!

  25. BIGBIG….I didn’t realize that you were with the team last year….didn’t you score in the Oregon game? Anthony Gonzalez could be a good second round pick up, but I just don’t see us drafting him over Jason Hill or Steve Smith (depending on availabiliy)

  26. i say we either draft Sidney Rice in the second round or Steve Smith or Jacoby Jones in the third…. Dewayne Bowe may also slide to the second

  27. i agree with cuntlicker.lmao! sullivan does like em six foot and taller.but there is alot of good talent at receiver this years in the draft and just remember nolan likes em to block too.and does anyone know if this is sullivans last year with the fortyniners? because if it is he is a turner follower.

  28. I like how all you guys say niners are gonna rock, and playoffs here we come, and then all of a sudden you see the 07 schedule and you shit your pampers.either your faithful or not.don’t ride the fence.

  29. the last two games should be pretty easy,if we stay healthy.

  30. I think we can take the Falcons and the panthers.not so sue about the saints.

  31. sure

  32. Im gonna go out on a limb and say we beat the piss out of the cardinals this year.

  33. I wonder if John York has a dildo inserted into his ass 24 hours a day

  34. I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN YORK IN THAT DILDO PARTY.THE ONE WHERE HE HAS IT IN HIS ASS,I WOULD LIKE TO STICK IN MY MOUTH AFTER THAT. I WOULD I LOVE DEPENDS DIAPERS FOR MY BLEEDING ASS.THANK YOU_CAPTAIN-CRUNCH/YOU CAN JOIN TO SINCE WE ARE THE SAME PEAPLE.

  35. Ok could the eight year olds please leave the blog? The toilet humore comments are LAME….use your brain a little bit.

  36. I CANT HELP IT IM ANAL_LY RETART+ED

  37. So here is a question to all………Who would you want….Steve Smith, Craig Davis, Jason Hill, or Sidney Rice? That interview I gave a link for kind has me thinking that Sidney Rice is a lazy player, I hope it isn’t true because he has great size and hands. What do you guys think? Also, what positions do you think we should go after in the third if we go MLB in the first and WR in the second???

  38. I like jason hill out of the aforementioned-as far as the 3rd round with 2 picks we obviously need d-line help and a left ot

  39. Do you mean Left or Right Tackle because I DO realize that there is a possibility that Larry Allen is gone after this year. Now, the third round is still open to suggestions, but what do you think about the fourth round because rememeber that is where we got Michael Robinson….that will be a round that we will dominate.

  40. i like jason hill in the second or third round. because he was productive in collage,he had i think three 1000 yard seasons except for this year,he played injured and a three/four year starter(i forget) and he has speed and has decent size 6-1 215 pounds and has the ability to block.steve smith is a good second or slot receiver with speed and smarts.

  41. oh no i wasnt saying get anthony, i was stating that i think his route-running is more crisp than tedy’s..

  42. oh yea, i was #21 this past year but I’m changing it to #4..look for me you gon hear about me soon..

  43. I wasn’t judging ANYONE….I’m not expert….I was just asking some peoples opinion. Also, can someone please tell me about this Jason Hill because I am afraid I know relatively little about him. I have seen Craig Davis, Steve Smith, Ted Ginn Jr., Jarrett, Craig Davis, Bowe, Meechum, and S. Rice, but not Hill. What is his story?

  44. Yeah…..well I will be at the USC game screaming at the top of my lungs. I hate the trojans and this year you guys will have the talent to upset. Is Deshawn Jackson still lookin healthy?

  45. Ryan, I wouldn’t rely too heavily on those “draft experts” that they have chat transcripts of. Yeah, they know players, their skills, and names, but they don’t seem to know a whole lot of football, and what players will fit what teams and what schemes. Hell, even people who do know the ins and outs of the games and each team will have a hard time predicting who will go where.

  46. yeah, so what is up with Jason Hill? Also, what do you think we should do in the third and fourth round BIG M….this is assuming we go MLB in the first and WR in the second.

  47. i just got doing the mock draft on 49ers.com.i picked like 4 players where they predicted they would go.

  48. MNF opener vs Arizona? What a start! And playoffs here we come

  49. Jason Hill has tons of potential… he has 4.3 speed, and a solid frame with lanky arms and good hands. And he doesn’t have just straight line speed, but football speed. There aren’t any major character issues. He wasn’t able to showcase his talent because of a poor supporting cast, especially at QB. I also like the fact that he was born in San Francisco. Now, it’s impossible to tell whether he will turn into an all-star receiver, but I think he projects as great #2 guy. After that, it is improbable to tell if he could become another Chad Johnson. But comparing him to Gonzalez and Smith as #2 guys, I like Hill’s deep threat ability a little better. Honestly, all three bring different things to the table, so it really is pick and choose right there.

  50. Ryan… as far as the 3rd and 4th rounds, we really just need to take the best players available. It sounds cliche’ but as of right now, we have a playoff caliber team with a good young nucleus. We can afford to draft talent, regardless of position because of the holes we filled in free agency. That said, when we draft in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, the odds are that the best players available will be WR, just because of the depth at that position. So, if it were my draft, I would take Willis at 11 if he’s there, Griffin in the 2nd if he’s there, and get the best WR available in the 3rd, and again with one of the 4th’s. So going with the best player available, if there is a guy that stands out at a particular spot in the draft that we can take and consider a steal, then we take him. If not, then we look at need and go from there.

  51. IVE COME TO THINK ABOUT THE DRAFT AND I TRUST NOLAN AND SCOTTY M TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION THIS YEARS DRAFT IS DIFFICULT I WOULD LOVE THEM TO GET JARRETT BUT WHO KNOWS THEY ARE THE ONES WATCHING ALL THAT FILM I DIDNT THEY DO A HELLA OF ALOT BETTER THAN DONAHUES COMPUTER PICKING SCHEME.

  52. The schedule is not too bad…….. but 6 early games on the road in the East always makes it difficult for the Niners. Nolan better have them prepared and if they can win 4 out of those 6 we will be in good shape. GO 9ERS!!!!!!!!!

  53. MAN I HOPE WE DONT MAKE AN MISTAKE A NOT JARRETT, I DON’NT CARE WHAT RYAN THE FIRST SAYS HE THINKS HE’S THE “GOD” OF THIS SITE THE ALMIGHTY, WE NEED JARRETT, STOP LISTENING TO RYA FIRST AND UNDERSTAND THIS WILL BE LIKE PASSING ON A CALIBAR PLAYER, IT WILL BE LIKE ANOTHER “MARIO WILLIAMS DEAL IF WE GET A DWFENSIVE PLAER. WE NEED OFFENSE WE NEED TO IMPROVE OUR RECEIVING CORP, OR ELSE. I’M SURE RYAN WILL RESPOND WITH ONE OF HIS FACTS, LINKS OR STATS, WHATEVER, BUT NO DISRESPECT SITE GOD YOU ARE WRONG. I HATE USC TOO AS MUCH AS I HATE THE COWBOYS THEY ARE A BUNCH OF KAPPA PRETTY BOYS, BUT THE GUY IS 6’5 AND TALENTED, HIS SIZE WILL MAKE AN IMPACT AND WILL MAKE HIM A STEP ABOVE 6’5 AND GOOD. I’M SURE RYAN WILL HAVE A SMART ASS REMARK, WE ARE FELLOW FANS GROW UP RESPECT OUR OPINION “NO IT ALL.” I WANT TO WIN IT ALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, WE HAVE DEFENSE WITH CLEMENTS,M.LEWIS,AND HARRIS, SPENCER-WERE SET AND READY TO GO. WITH A RECEIVER- ESPECIALLY ONE WITH SIZE, WE WILL PROGRESS ALOT FASTER. JARRRETT WILL BE FINE UNDER OUR RECEIVING COUCHES HE WILL ADAPT TO THE NFL GAME. IF WE DO NOT GET HIM WE NEED A RECEIVER AT 11, I THINK WE SHOULD TAKE TWO RECEIVERS JARRETT, AND RICE IN SECOND ROUND, HERE COMES RYAN FIRST COMMENTS, THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN ACCORDING TO YOU, BUT I WOULD LOVE THAT. BUT REALISTICLY WE NEED JARRETT, 49ERS DO NOT MAKE A TEXANS MISTAKE, DO NOT PASS ON A GEM, A FUTURE ALL STAR, AND GET A LONG PROGRESSING, SLOW PROGRESSING, WAHT FOR 2 MORE YEARS TO GROW PLAYER. IT’S BULL SAHIT THE ANSWER DAMN’IT IS DWAYNE JARRETT.( RYAN BRING ON THE COMMENTS AND REMARKS, I HATE USC TOO, BUT WERE GOING TO MAKE A MISTAKE IF WE LISTEN TO YOU. WE NEED THAT RECEIVER AT NUMBER 11 TO MATCH UP, OR COME NEXT YEAR ME AND YOU WILL BE DISCUSSING THE SAME SHIT ON THIS SITE!

  54. i say hell ya oldschoolbill we need that wr to complite that off and we do have 10 picks and 4 picks in the 4th so we can fill dline holes and other place we need some depth at we done really good in mikes first two season so i trust that well do dam good agin go NINERS playoffs baby ya !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. strength of schedule is a bunch of BS. With all the player movement, coach changes, draft picks and injuries, a team who played very poorly last year can make a huge improvement. To say this years schedule is hard or easy based off that is impossible. There are just to many variables.

  56. Defense in the 1st then if you don’t trade up to get a wideout in the first, take one in the second then use the rest of the picks besides one o-lineman (to replace Kwame).

The niners schedule is not as easy as it looks, a lot of the teams had bad records last year but will definitely rebound (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Seattle) and others that will produce and are up and coming (St. Louis, Arizona, Atlanta). The NFC West will be the very solid this year and their records won’t be great because they will be splitting a lot of wins.

But it doesn’t matter cause the Niners are gonna Run With the Division this year!!!

  57. I’m not trying to be God, but you just aren’t paying attention if you think we are going to draft Jarrett with the 11th pick. I would love it if we picked him up with our second (unlikely), but you can’t honestly expect the niners to draft a player with the 11th pick that is forecasted to go no earlier than the 20th pick in every mock draft known to mankind. Jason Hill sounds like a solid receiver so I am going to be cool with him. But, it would be unwise to draft someone who isn’t even close to the most talented player on the board at number 11. It would be like us using our 3rd rounder on someone like Jordan Kent from Oregon….why draft him when there are better players that could make more of an immediate impact on the team.

  58. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPollResultsState?pollId=44346 look at this to all you jarret haters take care ba bye

  59. THANKS COOLIO SHOW RYAN FIRST SOME STATS, SINCE HE’S ALWAYS SHOVING IN OUR FACES, HE JUST NO’S THE FUTURE DOESNT HE. I WANDER WHY THE WHOLE COUNTRY HAD VOTED ON PICKING JARRETT, BECAUSE THE MAN IS DAMNNNN GOOD! PLEASE NINERS FAN DO NOT BE FOLLOWERS AND LISTEN TO RYAN, HE’S CONVICING, BUT ONE SIDED, I’M STARTING TO THINK RYAN THE FIRST IS A COWBOY FAN, TRYING TO GIVE PEOPLE BAD IDEAS,AND SABOTAGING OUR FANS ON THIS SITE AND THE COACHES ON READING HIS COMMENTS-INFLUENCE PEOPLE. NO SIR I’M NOT FOLLOWING YOU AND NEITHER IS THE 49ERS. WE NEED JARRETT OR I’M AFRAID OUR ARCH RIVAL THE “DALLAS CORNDOGEATING- WRESTLING- WATCHING -COWHICKS WILL GET HIM. WERE NOT PULLING A “MARIO WILLIAMS” BAD MOVE AND PASSING ON A STAR TO MAKE US BETTER. I’M SORRY I WANT TO SHOW B.O. WHO THE ELITE TEAM IS IN THE WORLD IS AND TO SHOW THAT TRAITOR WHAT HE LEFT BEHIND A CHAMPIONSHIP RING, NUMBER SIX BABY! AND THATS THE 49ERS! WE NEED JARRETT BOTTOM LINE, IF GET DEFENSE THEY MAY BE GOOD BUT IT WILL TAKE YEARS FOR US TO PROGRESS, AND I DONT NOW ABOUT YOU- I WANT TO WIN NOW MY FELLOW 49ERS!

  60. LOOK AT THOSE STATS RYAN AND EVERYBODY ON THIS SITE LOOK ABOVE, IS THAT BULLSHIT! AMERICA OVERRULES RYAN COMMENTS AND THIS SITE!

  61. Yeah, and Nolan is the one who makes the decision……..So we’re NOT getting Jarrett unless it is with our second rounder or we pull another Manny Lawson trade.

  62. UUUUUHHHHHHHHHHH,I TOUCH MY SELF AND WHEN I THINK OF YOU(JARRETT) I TOUCH MY SELF,IM IN LOVE WITH YOU(RYAN THE FIRST) AND KNOW ONE ELSE.XOXOXOXOX GGGRRRRRR.

  63. SSSSSSSSSSORRY,RYAN THE FIRST IS RIGHT ABOUT THIS ONE. IN MEL KIPERS MOCK DRAFT JARRETT GOES TO THE COWCHICKS.THAT SLOW ASS COULD NOT OUTRUN JJ STOKES OR KWAME HARIS ON A GOOD DAY.

  64. man no wonder you guys are 49er fans.there’s more comments about gay ass sex than the 2007 schedule. I like how these faggots use my name and make me say gay stuff.I don’t really get all but hurt, like some other people on here.some people on here get butt hurt literally.so could you stupid faggots quit using my name.
I can understand that your uncle touched you when you were 12,and now your confused about your sexuality,so you make fun of people so you will forget abou your own personal life.

  65. STOP TALKING ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL (ABOUT YOU AND YOUR UNCLE TOMMYBOY MAN LOVERBOY)LIFE ON THIS SIGHT AND TALK FOOTBALLTOMMYBOY,COWHICK AND OLDSCHOOLBILLWALSH,ITS A SHAME U USE BILL WALSHES NAME WHEN HE HAS CANCER.

  66. All you gay fagets go feel on yourselfs on castro street u bitches

  67. I think medford oregon is making fun of people by using their names.

  68. what do we do if meachem, bowe, jarrett, and Ginn Jr. all go in the first round.I know this sounds crazy, but the nfl mock draft has them all going in the first.are beloved Jarrett is picked to go to Tenessee

  69. I LOVE TALKING ABOUT FAGETS BECAUSE I AM ONE, PLUS ME AND TOMMYBOY CIRCLE JERK EACH OTHER OFF WHILE WATCHING SEATLE GAMES AND TALKING SHIT TO 49ERSFANS ON THE INTERNET.LETS GET GETTO.

  70. OOOOHHHHH,NINER FAN YOUR HAND FEELS SO GOOD THERE.

  71. BIGBIG, should the niners take a chance on Desmond Bishop?

  72. never seen him play,is he a beast?

  73. i heard that he(desmond bishop) is a good tackler but he is slow.

  74. the only bad thing about having a monday night game the first is that we have a short weak to play steve jackson and the rams.

  75. niner fan can we please let it go?, I honestly don’t care anymore.

  76. I posted this in another blog, it was on 49erswebzone….I would have made the move.

“ESPN.com has confirmed that there have been some discussions between Atlanta and San Francisco officials about Harris, a player to whom the current 49ers staff has no innate loyalties, since it didn’t choose him. Word at the annual league meetings earlier this week was that the 49ers have already turned down an offer of third- and fourth-round draft choices for Harris from another franchise interested in him, so the Falcons might have to go a bit higher than that to land the three-year veteran, and they might be reluctant to do so.”

  77. they better do something with him.if they can get a second round for him then let it be done.rolan nolan knows what to do.then we might get lucky and draft justin blalock or an edge rusher or wide receiver.the bad part about this is harris is the only guy on the offensive line that hasnt been injured.

  78. what do you guys think about Yamon Figurs in the third round?
he coud be the next Devin Hester, who he beat in a track race.will probably be a #3 reciever, but could our return man,and we could make Brandon Williams a #2 reciever.

  79. not to mention he ran the fastest 40 in the combine this year.(3.40)

  80. would Yamon have a 101 speed on Madden since he beat Devin Hester?

  81. I didn’t find anything a K. Harris being traded. Ryan the 1st, i think it is just a blog.

  82. I didn’t find anything on ESPN anyways!

  83. yeah, I would have taken a 3rd rounder is someone offered it to me in a heartbeat. That would be SWEET!

  84. Also, you guys I don’t know if you were aware of this, but Michael Huff was on COld Pizza this morning and they said after he was done that Vernon Davis was going to be on the show tomorrow morning.

  85. I AM NOT THE SAME PERSON SITE GOD, I THINK YOU JUST ANSWERED MY THEORY YO ARE THE SAME PERSON WRITING TO YOURSELF JJ STOKES WHATEVER YOU ARE LITTLE KID, WE ALL KNOW RYAN THE FIRST IS A COWBOYS FAN RYAN, I’M RIGHT ON THAT. WHEN YOU SEE HE’M ON THE SITE IGNORE THE COWBOY FAN RYAN THE FIRST EVERYONE AND LETS TALK SPORTS WITH THE REST OF THE ADULTS AND IGNORE THE NO IT ALL LITTLE PUNK RYAN! I SURE HE’LL CREATE SOME SCREENNAMES OR STAY WITH THE SAME AND WRITE TOO HIMSELF COMMENTING ABOUT MY OPINIONS AND MY HONESTY! WAWA RYAN GROW UP AND FACE THE TRUTH WE NEED A JARRET!

  86. WHEN YOU SEE PEOPLE WINNING AND INSULTING THATS RYAN TALKING TOO HIMSELF! WE NEED TO TALK SPORT AND NOT HAVE RYAN AND HIS COWBOY POSEY ON THIS SITE!

  87. LETS BE ADULTS AND TALK ABOUT SPORTS WE ALL CAN HAVE AN OPINION – RESPCT THAT! BUT WERE GETTING JARRETT OR A RECEIVER WITH OUR FIRST PICK THAT A FACT! LOOK AT THE ABOVE LINK -THE SURVEY FROM MY MAN COOLIO! I GUESS AMERICA OUT VOTES THIS SITE!

  88. A TRUE NINER FAN HATES THE COWBOYS WITH A PASSION NOT RYAN AND HIS OTHER SCREENAMES TALKING TOO HIMSELF GROW UP!

  89. u r all losers

  90. RYAN YOU NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF YOUR NEW SCHOOL AND TRUE NINERFANS HATE THE COWBOYS!

  91. THERE GOES RYAN!

  92. man, you really have issues.

  93. im a loser too.im everyones bitch for hire.

  94. RYAN THE 1RST IS NOT-RYAN THE 1ST NUMBERONECOWBOYFAN.THAT IS TOMMYBOY/NINER FAN/AND WHATEVER NAMES ARE IN BIG PRINT AND AMUSES HIM SELF BY ACTING LIKE SOMEONE ELSE TALKING TO HIM SELF.I KNOW RYAN THE 1RST WOULD SAY AND THAT IS NOT HIM,DONT WORRY RYAN THE 1RST I GOT U BACK.

  95. thank you sir.

  96. no problem ryan.

  97. drafting jarrett period let alone at #11 would totally be el retardo!if branch is available we take him if not willis if wright cb from nevada is available to us in the 2nd round then i dont see how we pass him up -if not best available hopefully right takle -hill would be my choice because i feel he has the tools to be an all pro in our system-lorenzo booker might be a consideration since there is no legit backup to gore if available-it just boils down to what bigM said best available talent but also hope it is an additional bonus of team need

  98. THIS IS THE PERCENTAGE POSSIBILITIES OF WINS WE GON HAVE…

    Sep 10 Arizona 70%
    Sep 16 @St. Louis 60%
    Sep 23 @Pittsburgh 45%
    Sep 30 Seattle 55%
    Oct 7 Baltimore 35%
    Oct 21 @N.Y. Giants 55%
    Oct 28 New Orleans 40%
    Nov 4 @Atlanta 55%
    Nov 12 @Seattle 40%
    Nov 18 St. Louis 75%
    Nov 25 @Arizona 50%
    Dec 2 @Carolina 50%
    Dec 9 Minnesota 80%
    Dec 15 Cincinnati 35%
    Dec 23 Tampa Bay 85%
    Dec 30 @Cleveland 70%

    900/1600 = .5625

    .5625 X 16 = 9 wins (enough to make playoffs)

I could see us winning 1-2 games if we draft well this season, but worse case scenario is 8-8.

    what do you guys think?

  99. i would have to wait till after the draft and the the june first cuts to see who we will get and other teams get first.but right now i would give every team a 50 % chanse right now.and i think this season will be a little tougher to make the playoffs than last year so far i think 8-8 or 9-7 so far this year.and i think cleveland will be an up an coming afc team this year along with us on the nfc side.

  100. its gonna be a defensive stud if we stay put at 11. IF and a very big IF we draft a receiver in the first its either gonna be because we traded back cuz our targetted players are gone or we pull of a trade to get into the 1st twice. simple as that. just cuz we bought a secondary and one LB doesnt mean we fixed our defense. we still need another ILB and a defensive end or two

  101. Also a quality free safety would REALLY help. I hope the niners will pull the trigger on that one.

  102. I also agree with the nine win scenario…it makes sense, but I would like to stay optimistic with ten wins, but what do I know….maybe a little bias in my thoughts.

  103. i think people are making teams on our schedule out to be scarier than they really are. atlanta? pittsburgh? N.Y. Giants? i think worse record we will end up with is 9-7. we could easilly end with 11-5 maybe even 12-4. i beleive we made a lot of progress when nolan took over the defense and this year not to mention they will take the reigns off alex smith and let him go all out and we will have VD all year. we still have hella draft picks and scotty has been pretty good at drafting especially in the middle rounds where we have the most picks. plus all the sick FA’s we brought in. i think we’re back fellas. THE champs have risen once again. let the whole world know, the niners cant be kept down for very long. eat your heart out cowgirls, fudgepackers and all the other assholes that loved to see us down. red and gold never die

  104. 9-7 or 10-6, are main focus should be on stopping the run now since we got lewis and clements on the pass defense.last years runners ran all over us.plus we got to play the afc north(ravens, browns, steelers and the jail bird bengals(watch out for shanks and sharp objects),who offense is based on the run.even arizonias new head coach came from pittsburg and they will try to pound the ball more this year and st.louis ran the ball more too.and dont forget about the pathers to.i think there will be alot of close games with the 49ers this year because we all run the run offense and if frank gore gets injured we are screwed unless mike robinson dramaticly improves.

  105. WHY U BRINGING ME UP TOMMYBOY AND SOME1 ELESE IS USING THIS NAME

  106. man ryan, these guys/guy are some weirdos arent they? now WHAT IF(what if) we traded kwame to ATL ALONG with our 11 pick for their 8 pick and a third(or fourth) rounder.. that would give us a very good chance to nab Landry if Minny so chooses not to draft him, and I know we have safeties, but most of em are strong safety, so Landry would really solidify our secondary…now I know this is HIGHLY unlikely, you could call it WISHful thinking on my part. could we even trade for a pick that was traded for?

  107. FYI – Training camp is just around the corner… check it out
    johnnyshirts.net

  108. I wouldn’t mind that move. Landry is a savage, you just can’t deny that. Yes, he would dramatically improve our secondary…..in fact IF we pulled that off I would compare our secondary to anyone’s in the league. I know I am going to catch hell for that comment, but think about it. Both of our corners are pro bowlers now and our strong safety was one (still could be one)………..OH now we get Landry……..It would be head hunting all day. It also wouldn’t hurt that we got rid of KWAME. The thing is that Kwame is something that we could use as major trade bait for a pick (like a third or fourth) Atlanta is in NEED of o linemen so that is a great scenario. I am just wondering what is going through Nolan’s head about how many picks he wants to have because I would REALLY think it would be smart to acquire another second rounder…..that round is full of “STEALS”. I agree with Big M about acquiring Michael Griffin if he is available because he doesn’t come with the issues that Merriweather has, but Merriweather is more talented IN MY OPINION. ALSO, you heard it here first if we draft Brandon Mebane we are going to be eating the QB’S ALIVE this year. Melvin Oliver is going to have a great year the question really is on Franklin because I know nothing about him really.

  109. Ohhhhh, sorry BIGBIG, I overlooked the part (the ATL Trade) about the third rounder. Yes, I would LOVE that trade, but it wouuld be dangerous because it is STILL POSSIBLE that if Quinn is gone by the time the Vikings pick they might take Landry because they were pathetic against the pass last year.

  110. I dont now who writing all that pack load of crap the only onw i do now is that faget Tommy boy will he can die and burn in hell for as much as i give at damn. as for the faget who writes as me go suck your webbos u gay piece of shit. AND

  111. I dont now who writing all that pack load of crap the only onw i do now is that faget Tommy boy will he can die and burn in hell for as much as i give at damn. as for the faget who writes as me go suck your webbos u gay piece of shit. AND if i ever see any of you i will kick your needy little asses u “pinches jhotos maricones cara de calzones cagdos!!!!!!”

  112. Did Vernon Davis appear on cold pizza today??? They said yesterday that he was supposed to be a guest on the show today.

  113. Ryan, Vernon Davis is about to be on in a bit on my TV. About our secondary, I already think we can compare ours to any in the league. Two pro bowl corners and a pro bowl caliber safety, plus Roman is a solid starter. I would pick Griffin over Meriweather because I trust that Griffin will work and become a great pro and teammate. He played right next to Michael Huff, and Huff basically said that Griffin was going to be just as good as him. Look at what Huff did last year. The difference is that Texas didn’t have as great a season as most expected this year. So yeah, talent-wise, Meriweather’s got the tools, but character is quite the issue in today’s NFL. Actually, in football, character is everything.

  114. speak english NINER FAN ,if you want people to understand you retarted u”pinches jhotos maricones cara de calzones cagdos!!!!!sounds like some fucked up retarted mexican beans and rice bullshit with an italian calazone in it.your retarted talking about calizones and there talking about cold pizza.this aint the cooking channel net.monte gong!!!!

  115. Shut the fuck up you fucking red neck and you should really think about changing you gay ass name you mataussi. Try and figure out what the word mataussi means. And wait you stupid ass retard its not a spanish word. Its ashame that you and Michael Jackson had sex together in Gay Land

  116. who the hell is michael jackson?you got to be an old ass to remember that guy.and try to figure this out (kiss #y a%s)this aint the learning channelle if you want to learn something new LEARN ENGLISH YOU REFRIED BEAN TURD.

  117. Big M, I agree with what you are saying about Merriweather. If they were both on the board with our second pick I would take Griffin for the exact reasons that you said. Keep me up to date about the Vernon Davis video….let me know what happened.

  118. ok what i do in the draft is i take pattrick willis or jamal anderson who ever is availible at the time if there both there id take willis cause he would make more plays in the field then anderson would make up front but we will see and then in the second round i move up a few spots and take steve smith from usc he isnt getting any credit but he is a kick ass reciever over shadowed by jarret so we take care of our twwo biggest needs and playoffs here we come woooooooooooooo

  119. i garentee that it will be willis, branch or carrier will be in a gold and red uniform next year after that is anyones guess we probley wont draft a receiver until the third round like last year.

  120. Al Wilson released. Whats his status these days? Too old? Sign him, then draft DT or WR?

  121. i now why u are gay because ur little bitch ass never got any pussy .

  122. no douchebag, probley because he is not strong enough to take on offensive lineman and wouldnt fit a 3-4 linebacker sceme .and he couldnt pass a physical.look for the giants or texans to try to sign him.

  123. i wish we could get al wilson.then draft willis in the first and then get tank tyler in the second round or another defesivelineman in the 3rd or 4th round. let wilson and willis start and then we can get rid of d.smith.

  124. Al Wilson = the heart and soul of the Broncos D! He’s 9 year vet, and a great run-stopper. Hmmm, maybe have him tutor/mentor and play. He aint going to come cheap…..

  125. WOW!! Could you imagine: Wilson and Willis in the middle!!!!

  126. if we can get rid of derick smith we could aford him.i think.( wishfull thinking ), but i think it will happen though.

  127. but i dont think it will happen though…..i ment

  128. AL WILSON..YEARS BACK..OR IF HE DIDNT HAVE DAT NECK INJURY..BUT NAH..NO POINT OF GETTIN HIM…ID TAKE WILLIS…D.SMITH..IS OLD…SO IF WILLIS STARTS OVA HIM…OUR LINE BACKER WOULD BE ONE OF THA FASTEST LB SQUAD N THA NFL..MANNY..BRANDON..N WILLIS..GOSH DAMN..DAS A THREAT..2 ALL KINDA OF QBS N THA LEAGUE..N WE STILL GOT TULLY..MAN..JUSS IMAGINE IF WE STILL HAD JP…BUT FUCK DAT SELL OUT NIGGA..WE DID BETTER WIT OUT HIM…N WE BEAT HIM N HIS SEAFUCKS 2WICE..

  129. 49ERS DEFENSE LOOKIN LIKE MIKE NOLANS DEFENSE WHEN HE WAS N BALTIMORE..

When Mike Nolan took over the reigns as the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator in 2002, he inherited one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL. In his three years as DC, his units averaged a seventh place finish in total defense and ranked in the top six in points allowed and yardage twice.

The base 3-4 that the Ravens employed at the time is what Nolan has been attempting to convert the 49ers’ defense to over the previous two years, but without much success. However, with personnel upgrades on defense via free agency, and with the impending selections in this month’s draft, the 49ers’ defensive roster is becoming increasingly similar to the Ravens’ during Nolan’s tenure in Baltimore.

    Defensive line:

The Ravens really didn’t have a dominant DT to rely on in the post-Tony Siragusa era under Nolan. Instead, he preferred space eaters like Kelly Gregg, Ma’ake Kemoeatu and Marques Douglas to occupy dual blockers, freeing up ends like the speedy Michael McCrary and blitzing outside linebackers like Terrell Suggs who occasionally lined up at DE.

Speaking of Douglas, he and newly signed Aubrayo Franklin played in Baltimore under Nolan and have seen his system work before. Their previous experience, combined with the presence of veteran Bryant Young, make the Niners’ interior line look very comparable, and perhaps better than the group Nolan assembled in Baltimore.

The same cannot be said for the defensive end position, however, unless the team drafts a player like Nebraska’s Adam Carriker or Clemson’s Gaines Adams in Round 1. Roderick Green, another former Raven, could excel over the course of a full season if the way he played at the end of ’06 is any indication.

    Linebackers:

It could be argued that the personnel at linebacker is what makes or breaks a successful 3-4 defense. Looking at the Ravens’ depth at LB in the Nolan years, it becomes pretty obvious why the team was so successful. Anchored by Ray Lewis in his prime, the star-studded unit also consisted of Adalius Thomas, Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott and then-healthy versions of Edgerton Hartwell and Peter Boulware. With the exception of Hartwell, each of the other four players have made the Pro Bowl at least once. The Ravens easily overwhelm the 49ers’ current talent at linebacker; then again, though, it may have been one of the best LB groups ever assembled.

    Secondary:

The Niners moves in free agency make their unit a near-mirror image of the Ravens’, if only on paper. The role of Baltimore’s Chris McAlister is played by the Niners’ Nate Clements, and second CB Gary Baxter is matched by Walt Harris. Former Raven Corey Fuller is played by San Francisco’s Shawntae Spencer, and Ed Reed’s equal at safety is Michael Lewis. To expect a similar level or production doesn’t seem like a stretch, but there is no guarantee the players will develop the same kind of chemistry as the Ravens’ unit did. But the 49ers’ secondary will certainly be improved by comparison to last season.

The one glaring area where the Niners need to find a playmaker is on the outside edge, whether it’s a defensive end or a linebacker. Brandon Moore is solid, and Manny Lawson showed promise in his rookie year, but the unit needs a playmaker if it is to become as dominant as the past defenses in Baltimore.

How a team looks on paper doesn’t necessarily transfer onto the field, but nevertheless, it’s interesting to see Nolan is finally implementing his system. In what will be his third season as the head coach in San Francisco, Nolan finally has the pieces in place to make the 49ers’ defense one of the NFL’s most improved in 2007

  130. Does anyone have a link to a chart with the numbered value of each spot in the draft. I’m wondering what the value of a third and fourth round pick is compared to what we were offered for kwa-lame harris, considering where he was picked in the draft(first round). Hope Nolan knows what he’s doing on this one and we get better than a third and fourth for him. Then we can finally say good bye and good riddance to that dreadlocked, sissy talking, worthless piece of shit. Can you imagine if Nolan worked a deal to get a late first rounder for him, or more realisticaly a second.

  131. dwayne duckett is changing to an offensive lineman from d-line(as per 49ers.com). That may give us another good back up on OL, along with Wragge and Baas. Then give RT to Snyder and say bye-bye to Kwa-lame the human penalty.

  132. Yeah, I REALLY hope Nolan has a trade in the works for Kwame the lame.

  133. plus there going to trade smiley too they said on sportscenter and plus they said if we draft levi brown in the first we can trade or get rid of k.harris.so its starting to look posable that baas or snyder or both can start next year.

  134. Baas better get his ass on the field-wanna see what this kid can do-highly touted outta MI-if we took levi brown we would have to try and jump back in the 1st round with a harris and d.smith trade for willis throw in a 4th round pick-

  135. I am all for Baas starting…..his time has been long overdue. If you’ve ever watched the first part of lord of the rings then you would know that David Baas resembles a cave troll. He is HUGE. I don’t think we have given him enough time to show his stuff and trust me….he has a lot to bring to the table. Smiley and Kwame would be PRIME TRADE BAIT!!! I say do it because since we still have an excessive amount of cap to handle the draft then why not get some more first day picks because both of them should be worth that. Smiley is a border line second or third round draft pick, especially if we find someone who is really hyped up about their NEW FAST RUNNING BACK then they will want to do what they can to acquire a line (at least if they are smart). If we trade both Smiley AND Kwame the Lame then we will have completely filled all of our NEEDS.

  136. I like Smiley. If we can get decent value for Kwa-lame, keep Smiley and stick with the OL we got. Smiley is a throwback,thick-neck badass, and I don’t see why we are putting him in the same kind of class as kwa-lame. He’s good. If teams are looking at Kwa-lame as a player worth giving up draft picks for, then we have got to dump his ass right now. He won’t be worth shit after the Kwa-lame lowlights video#2 after next season.

  137. We NEED to go after a MLB, a couple receivers, a free safety for the future (OR now if they are talented enough). Let’s get the pieces in place and start mauling the NFC WEST!!

  138. Do you guys really think Smiley sucks? Kwa-lame sure as fuck does.

  139. I like Willis in the first. We can get recievers that will make an impact later in the draft. And just like Smiley, I like the way Arnaz is progressing; dosen’t anyone else.

  140. the one thing that worries me for next year is if larry allen retires or leaves, then we have baas to replace him.what position does smiley play? the last artical that said we might trade smiley they said he was a tackle, today on sportscenter they said he is a center, and this past season he played guard.is he playing guard again and do the analasist dont now what the hell they are talking about or is he changing positions?

  141. Smiley is TOTAL QUALITY, but if he doesn’t fit in Nolans system then he doesn’t fit. In that case we need to get something in return. YES LARRY LEAVING CONCERNS ME BIG TIME…..I hope he will stay with us for one more year after this/

  142. smiley’s style of play reminds me a bit of Newberry. not sorry we lost him to the raiders because of those knees of his, but Smiley is pretty solid. Why trade him if kwa-lame might get us some extra picks. Willis is the logical pick if available. Ryan is right in this regard. You guys jumped on him yesterday about Jarret, but Jarret is not the answer. Mario Williams is one example of defensive players drafted in the first round. How many other D picks made an impact last year that were drafted in the first round? Manny did alright. Did all of the offensive draft picks do that much more than defensive picks. Frank and Alex and Vernon can score enough points that a bad ass defense could win us the division. Unless we can trade up for CJ we would be stupid to take WR in the first round.

    w

  143. to me newberry was a physical player and to be smiley is a fast finess zone blocker.i think his best bet would be with the broncos or taxans zone blocking sceme.and i think bobby boucher, that mike huff made an impact to with the raiders and haloti ngata of the ravens had a good impact on his team and dont forget L.B.kameron wimbley from florida state who had over 10 sacks this year in cleveland and ernie sims of detroit lions didnt do to bad since you asked.and a.j. hawk did o.k. to.and i also agree with ryan the 1st,that jarrett is not the answer.but i still say we need another wide receiver for alex smith because lalie drops to many passes but he can stretch the field for alex smith,i just hope they get vernon davis to help lalie to stretch the field then get battle to do the short routes and an ocational deep pass like last year against seatle with that 55 yarder.we need to draft a good 3rd receiver to to help.i dont think gilmore is the long term answer i see him with us one more year before he goes back to turner in san deago.i like to get rice, paul williams or jason hill.some one who can be a second option just in case lalie or battle get injured.thats what i think.

  144. HEY AL WILSON GOT RELEASED TODAY BY THE BRONCOS. WHATS THE CHANCES THAT WE GET HIM? HE WILL BE A SOLID PICKUP. I JUST WISH WE PICKED UP JERRY PORTER. IMAGINE IF WE HAD BOTH PORTER AND WILSON.

  145. well ma mom sucks at makin eggs, and i think that the 49ers will end up with a record they will play 16 games u know

  146. THE FORTYNINERS ARE GOING TO BE ON FIRE THIS YEAR.I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE OTHER TEAMS ASHES AFTER WE BURN THEM ALL.

  147. WAIT A SECOND NEWBERRY WAS THE BIGGEST FAILURE ONE GOOD YEAR THEN HIS WIFE HAD KIDS AND HE WAS ON THE INJURY LIST IM GLAD WE GOT RID OF THAT PUSSY HOPE THE FAGGOT RAIDERS LIKE HIM.

  148. the niners will be fine…. nolan has them definetely going in the right direction…. nobody in the niners organization cares at all what all the people on this site think of how they should run the organization… i hope to god that you all can please and i mean please actually worry about the football season after the draft

  149. Gentlemen, for all of you defense haters remember this… Defense wins championships. The Bears made it all the way to the big show because of the D. Yes, you do need SOME offense, but I think we can all agree the Niner’s offense is better then Chicagos. I feel like we have enough offense to compete this year. A big bad D will be the key to keeping us in the playoff race which is why a defensive player will be our pick at 11 then we go offense.

  150. I agree defense wins championships but like you said you have to score points for the defense to win the game for you otherwise the score will be a straight donut or low scoring like 3,6,9 point game you know field goal games which is those the kind of games I hate and some will say it was a good defensive battle between both teams but it’s still no excitment with out any good offensive scoring and how will you win a game like that but wouldn’t that be the shit if our defense can shut out a teams like that to where they score not one fucking point that will be crazy.

  151. After thinking about it, I say don’t trade Smiley unless the price REALLY RIGHT. He was a intregal part of our o line last year and no one knows what is going to happen with him or Larry Allen after this season. ON THE OTHER HAND, I would like to get SOME compensation for Smiley before he leaves us…that would be awesome. Kwame, TRADE HIM, don’t even think about it, just do it. If we can get a third for him then I say do it. Smiley we should be able to get a pretty good draft pick for, but then we are going to need some players to step up. Start Snyder, bench Kwame, and give Baas some playing time this year.

  152. To R,Craig33, I completely agree. That is why we need to get another second rounder. If we do the we can still pick up a receiver AND a quality defensive player or o linemen. That is the STEAL ROUND. TWO WEEKS!

  153. YOU ON HERE STILL USING MY NAME AND I PEEPED WHAT MY MAN SAID ABOUT DUDE MAKING UP NAMES TO AGREE WITH HIMSELF AND PLAY WITH OTHER NAMES SO THAT EXPLAINS IT, YOU’RE A REAL NUT ASS DUDE TO DO SOME BULLSHIT LIKE USE OTHER PEOPLE NAMES ON HERE TO MAKE DUMB ASS COMMENTS AND MAKE UP NAMES TO AGREE WITH YOURSELF THAT’S SOME REAL CORNY ASS SHIT I STOP POSTING ON HERE I JUST GET NEWS AND READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS AND I’M OUT AND AFTER ALL THIS TIME YOU STILL DIG MY NAME UP TO PLAY GAMES WITH IT I WISH I CAN GET TO YOU SO I CAN KNOCK YOUR DUMB ASS RIGHT THE FUCK OUT BE A NINERS FAN AND STOP PLAYING GAMES AND GO GET SOME PUSSY OR SOMETHING THEN YOU WON’T HAVE TIME TO PLAY GAMES WITH NAMES AND MAKE THEM UP TO AGREE WITH YOU SELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  154. Ryan the 1st that’s what I was thinking too get something like a second rounder or better for smiley and they was just talking about who could slip to the second round and how much depth is in it plus people are coming to me saying that they here the niners will be the shit this year and the niners are being talked about more often by these anchores so we need a solid draft and pick smart and wise and we will be the shit just like everybody is coming to me and saying that they will be GO NINERS!

  155. so what do you think we should do in the 3rd and 4th round?

  156. GO NINERS I SMELL PLAYOFFS YA BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  157. ryan is a dickheaded faggg who takes other peoples names. any one needs a bitch for hire call ryan.

  158. all you niner sluts keep arguing over hookers that dont exist on this team first it was the linebacker from the ravens a.thomas wich went to the pats, i said before free agentcy that we wouldnt get him, then you guys i pretty sure you named almost every player in the draft WE ONLY HAVE 10 PICKS IN THE DRAFT!!!!NOT 200.and we arent going to get al wilson.every time there is a free agent you think he we land here.NOT!!!everyone doesnt fit into a 3-4.now we got this player who will try to make the move from defensive line to offense.he will be gone before next season.THE FUCKING GOD DAMN FORTYNINERS ARE FINE WHERE THEY AT RIGHT NOW,SO STOP WITH EVERY FREE AGENT THATS OUT THERE COMING HERE.ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. ITS ARE TURN TO RISE FROM THE ASHES AND FEEL THE HEAT OF THE GOD DAMN BEST TEAM IN THE FUCKING WORLD.WE ARE THE TRUE AMERICAS TEAM,EXCEPT WE WEAR RED AND GOLD.EVERY GOD DAMM TEAM WILL FEAR THE FORTYNINERS AGIAN.

  159. LET ME HERE EVERYONE SAY OOOOONE,TTTTWO,TTTTTHREE,DDDDOMINATE!!

  160. Yo ninaz do you think he was the one using my name on so faggot ass shit because this shit went on a long time and if you was on here I been coming at the mutha fuckas top for using my name not to mention saying real corny ass shit that’s not even funny, what you think my good brotha?

  161. HEY THE REAL BAAQI,ITS NOT RYAN THE 1ST. ITS SOMEONE WHO KEEPS USING DIFFRENT NAMES ON HERE.ITS THE SAME GUY THAT STARTED SHIT ON THE FRANK GORES BITCH THAT POSED AS A SEATLE FAN,BECAUSE RIGHT AFTER THAT THIS GUY BEEN ON HERE EVER SINCE.

  162. good point…..its kind of like 7th grade kids who feel grown up when they use swear words (they think it makes them sound mature). SOOOOO have fun….whoever you are, but next time try to talk like a big boy and say something constructive.

  163. 49ERS NEEDS

    #

Finally out from under the franchise’s second crippling salary cap purge in a decade, San Francisco’s impressive new brain trust went on a furious shopping spree this off-season. They hope to have fixed their pass defense woes by adding CB Nate Clements and safety Michael Lewis, solved their nose tackle problem in a full-time 3-4 defense with Aubrayo Franklin, and took a gamble on unfulfilled potential with receiver Ashley Lelie. Perhaps the most important signings were in the backfield, as fullback Moran Norris and MVP candidate tailback Frank Gore both received lucrative extensions.

    # Top five needs:
    Wide receiver
    Inside linebacker
    Defensive end
    Guard
    Tight end

    # Who they hope falls to them: Don’t be surprised if head coach Mike Nolan takes a long look at Ole Miss ILB Patrick Willis. Nolan coached Willis at the Senior Bowl and compared him favorably to 2006 Defensive Rookie of the Year DeMeco Ryans. Willis is projected to be taken right about where the 49ers stand with the 11th overall pick.

    # Who they will settle for: Wide receiver, the team’s primary need, is more of a “Calvin Johnson, or the bottom half of the first round” option when it comes to the elite. Tennessee’s Robert Meacham would make quarterback Alex Smith very happy, as would LSU’s Dwayne Bowe. However, those players are trade-down targets from No. 11, and a defensive end to spell veteran Bryant Young is another need. Nebraska DE Adam Carricker has been mentioned in more than one mock draft as a possible header on Nolan’s shopping list.

    # Later rounds: The 49ers have eight picks in the first four rounds, and in a Best Player Available philosophy this could be interesting. South Carolina receiver Sidney Rice is a highly regarded playmaker with great hands. The Niners will undoubtedly look for someone to augment the passing game with those characteristics. Guard Larry Allen had a great 2006, but age will become a concern. A developmental pick, like Georgia Tech’s Mansfield Wrotto, would provide valuable insurance for the future. Tight end Vernon Davis has monster potential, but the backup role is unresolved with Eric Johnson’s departure to New Orleans. The top end of the tight end class is spare, but several mid-rounders have potential. Western Oregon’s Kevin Boss might be the best in a school of sleepers.

  164. That was good stuff. But, with regard to the tight end position, I think we should give Delanie Walker a chance.

  165. I’m glad you peeped that and I didn’t think it was Ryan the 1st and speaking of me and you got something in common with this pussy I see you had to use the 1st because of this punk ass mutha fucka and now we all caught on to what he was doing and FUCK DUDE CAUSE HE SHOULDN’T BE ON HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE IF HE’S A SEAHAWKS FAN HE CAN’T SAY SHIT NOW BECAUSE WE ALREADY FIGURED IT OUT AS LONG AS YOU’RE BEHIND THAT COMPUTER USEING NAMES YOU WON’T GET FUCKED UP PUNK ASS MUTHA FUCKA

  166. I just wish Erickson or Big M could block them from coming on to here. I don’t know if they can or not, but it is just annoying. But, I appreciate the comments you posted.

  170. does anybody have the audio of the vernon davis interview from mike and mike

  171. Yeah, I was wondering about that.

  172. Lookin forward to this draft-should have some high drama trades goin on of which I hope we are involved! Maybe branch falls to us then we trade some unwanted personel w/draft picks to move back into the 1st round-if lorenzo booker is there for us in the 2nd round do we take him? could be a new marshall in town

  173. QUIT THAT BULLSHIT NEGATIVE TALK! NINERS 4LIFE! WE’RE MAKIN THE PLAYOFFS FOR SURE. QUIT WRITING BULLSHIT NEGATIVE COMMENTS. ITS A PRO NINER SIGHT FOR A REASON! – NINER FAN FOR LIFE!

  182. Does anybody want to establish real conversations about football again! If the other people criticize you, just ignore them! Now, has anyone heard any possible trades for smiley…Kris Jenkins…K Harris…or trade news? Hell, any kind of news about the Niners?

  183. I hope to hear from some real fans!

  184. Yeah, I completely agree, but it IS a deterrent to comment on this site when you have children who feel cool for talking trash and saying swear words at people who they don’t even know. As for Smiley, I don’t know if I am completely covinced I want him to be traded. I don’t want Jenkins on the niners…..he wouldn’t be committed to the team (he never has been to any other one). SMiley would give us a great draft pick so we would at least get something for him, but then we would lose a quality lineman for this season. With Jonas Jennings injuring his little toe every other game and needing 3 games to heal because of it we might need Smiley. As for Kwame……TRADE HIM…..TRADE HIM NOW! However, the niners might be holding out on trading him until the last minute because then the other teams have less time to react to the move and the niners have a better chance of ensuring they get who they want with their picks.

  185. If we could afford Al Wilson, he would be great, but I don’t know. I really want us to draft Willis and if we were to acquire Wilson then Willis would take a backseat to the best available d linemen in the draft with the 11th pick.

  186. i hope they can make a package deal with smiley and kwame harris for a couple draft picks or players.

  187. ok lets get some real football talk going next year if all is well we all stayhealthy i see us going 9-7 what do you guys predict i also see us taking pattrick willis in the first he is a big nead then hitting up the wr in the second with steve smith or sidney rice i would move up in the second to sure one of those two picks and i wouls also give up our third an one of our fourths to get either a high second or a late first hope we can pull something like that to help boost up our d line try and pull spencer or the one from n. carolina im not sure of his name and get some o-line also in the draft later

  188. Yeah, Spencer is a beast…..that would be a great acquisition.

  189. I gotta go for a couple of hours so if that moron comes back to start using other peoples names know that it isn’t me.

  190. Ryan, I am not sold on Jenkins but the 3-4 def calls for big ends. It is just an idea. All I can say is I watched the 49ers def line basically all season get man handled. So I would like to get somebody of Jenkins style…big and somewhat quick to help control the line of scrimmage. I do not think Al Wilson would be a good fit for the niners. I am happy with Moore and Smith. What I think the Niners should do is draft Willis to replace Smith (soon) and possible trade for a DE (Carritaker) spelling. I am hoping that the niners can trade for D. Jackson to help with WR. What do you think?

  191. Cooli, I am thinking the the niners will draft Willis. Hell, I want them to! My thoughts are on the D-Line. I would like to get Branch or Caretaker(spelling). I would like to think Nolan will pull off a deal and try to get both. I know…I am thinking outside the box, but with all are draft picks, and some trade bait (smiley and K harris) I think he might be able to pull something off. Questions…Comments?

  192. ye i agree about jenkins, plus he will want a crap load of money anyway.im not sure about darrell jackson he has been injury prone of late.but i wouldnt mind someone with some experiance,so alex smith wont have no excuses.

  193. Jerry, I hoping the can pull off a big trade for them (smiley and harris). I really believe that smiley doesn’t want to be part of the 49ers for some reason. I don’t know why, but I feel that way!

  194. Jerry, do know any other WR that come to the niners and help out?

  195. I dont think so Danny, it seems like u dont understand the data of football, smiley, not smiley, but we need to keep harris, 4ever, u R gay

  196. Man, u got that right im gay allright

  197. Man, u got that right im gay allright..

  198. some one is using my name on here.im out of this sight for a couple of days.this guy doesnt give up on his immiturity bull shit.

  199. WE SHOULD HIRE
    JEREIME STEVENS

  200. PS: JERRY, JEREMY STEVENS?? U SURE???

  201. plus you can tell when he is on here is when he spells”you”he uses “u”.

  202. It that jackass again! If I am gay, don’t tell my wife that!

  203. This guy has nothing else better to do than use other people’s names and start trouble. Grow up and get a life!

  204. grow up!
    like if ure mickeymouse!
dont get too close to ma dick!

  205. Not even an immature response…come on don’t you have something to fire back…like I’m gay of something! That is original! Come on Jackass fire something.

  206. As Eric Cartman would say, “LAME!”

  207. Hopefully one day we will be able to have a decent football conversation without Jackass! Talk to you guys later (Ryan, Jerry, and Coolio)

  208. seems like ninaz back hurasing people again along with the other names he uses.he will use this one right after this.fucking seatle fag go on someone elses sight and hurras them.GO FUCK YOUR MOTHA FAGOT.

  209. I was looking at some of the Alex Smith HighLights and I didn’t realize how much of a factor Eric Johnson was. Vernon Davis must step up tremendously which I know he will. My concern is will Delanie Walker be able to step up in Johnsons place ? If not we need to draft a TE and not depend on convertig players into positions we need. That usually takes some time I don’t think we are that skilled at this time to be developing players to another position. I guess there are some cases where it has shown to be productive, but we have 3 players in Walker, Duckett, and Robinson. If I am not mistaken these players were drafted or signed within the same year or two from one another. It appears we either drafted poorly with these picks or we took the best available picks. All I am saying is we need to be more precise with our picks. I like Michael Robinson tremendously, but what happen to him at developing at receiver ? I hope we can trade up and get a few second rounders this year. It appears to be alot of depth there. I am glad we traded up and got Manny Lawson last year ,but it would have been nice to get Demeco Ryans who Houston stole last year or D’Qwell Jackson from Cleveland, or Thomas Howard from Oakland who all had over at least 90 tackles. I am hoping Lawson has a break out season. If Lawson plays well and we draft a defensive beast in the draft we are going to give some havoc out there I don’t care who we are playing. Give me some feedback !!

  210. NICE POINT TSIMSNINER

  211. I was looking at some of the Alex Smith HighLights and I didn’t realize how much of a factor Eric Johnson was. Vernon Davis must step up tremendously which I know he will. 212. Hmmm, u copied that from tsimsniner, were not stupid nalgas

  213. i think we might be able to replace smiley with a guy i like do to his nasty mean streak and nfl background through his dad outta texas by the name of studdard-should be around in the 4th
hopefully branch falls in our lap if not carriker if hes there-we then need to trade for willis-then if wright falls our way in the second or booker we should take either if not then take hill

  214. Yeah, so Danny, I wasn’t saying that you were sold on either one. I was just giving my opinion, which is worth its weight in dog crap. I would really like to get Willis as well. We need a young leader that is going to grow up along with the defense. I wouldn’t be sad if we got Al Wilson, but it WOULD make it extremely unlikely that we would draft willis if we were to get him. As for the immature idiot using other peoples names…he or she is probably someone who likes another team (has NO girlfriend or any friends for that matter) and needs to amuse himself by pulling the stunts that he is pulling since no one wants to play with him….and I can see why.

  215. It is just unlikely that we are going to acquire another 1st rounder that would put us in a position to acquire both Willis AND Carriker, but it would be awesome though. However, it would cost us an arm and a leg.

  216. GUYS STOP WRITING SH!T ON THIS WEBSITE, THIS WEBSITE IS FOR 49ER
DISCUSSIONS, NOT SH!T TALKIN LIKE BAAQI, SO STOP

  217. Also, the Darrell Jackson thing, I think it would solve the WR problem in the short term because he IS a good WR and would improve our WR core, but then in two to three years we would have to find another one. I think Nolan is probably weighing out the options of either getting the short fix or moving forward with a young talented team that grew together. However, DJAX is a team player and always gives it his all……he isn’t your normal loud mouthed, primadonna, I need the spotlight, wideout which seem very common these days in the NFL….sadly.

  218. My two or three MUST HAVE PLAYERS out of the draft would be Willis, Jason Hill, and either Mebane or Pitcock.

  219. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF (O.L.B.) BANTA- CAIN IS THE STARTER OR IF ITS PARYS HARALSON?

  220. I am willing to bet that Banta Cain gets the nod. But, for some reason I want to think that Haralson can play on the inside.

  221. BECAUSE IF ONE OF THEM START I DEFENTLY THINK WE WILL GO AFTER ALAN BRANCH,WILLIS OR CARRIKER IN THE FIRST ROUND.

  222. Haralson isn’t over 6’1″ and I don’t know about his weight.

  223. He played DE in college, but I think he is ‘tweener on the LB situation. That means that he COULD play inside or outside.

  224. Man i cant waait tii the season starts 4 primetime games daamn!

  225. WE HAVE ALOT OF LINEBACKERS,LAWSON,DERICK SMITH,JEFF ULBRICH,BRANDON MOORE,BANTA-CAIN,HARALSON I CAN SEE US GETTING CARRIKER OR BRANCH IN THE FIRST THEN A LINEBACKER/D.E. IN THE 2ND,3RD,4TH ROUNDS THEN.

  226. Ryan, I truly believe this is a critical year. Bringing in a veteran WR for A. Smith is important. That is why is would like a vet that still has something in the tank.

  227. Ryan, about two draft picks in the first round, I think it is possible with the Patriots. I would like to think we can get something done with them.

  228. Yeah, I would try with the Pats as well because they aren’t really sweating losing one of those picks as long as they get compensated…..especially the 28th pick.

  229. I am assuming Jackass is not on here right now?

  230. For now….yes, as far as I can tell, he is gone. However, I am going to split again in the near future so if the rude comments start coming out………..know it isn’t me. I really think the niners should go after the 28th pick. We could compensate them well for that pick. Plus, we wouldn’t be letting anyone try and meet their second biggest need. Plus, I think the niners would be REALLY pleased to see what fell to them with the 28th pick.

  231. i want the steelers pick…they dont have a lot of cap room to sign their picks and their team doesn’t have many if any holes…it wouldnt surprise me if we try and trade with a team for their pick this year for one or a couple picks of ours next year…example any teams first rd pick for smiley and next years 2nd or 3rd rd pick…that way we could still keep our picks this year which would be great because it is a very deep draft this year…

  232. So are you saying we would have the 11th and the 15th (or was the 16th) pick in the draft then because that would be awesome. It makes sense to me, but Nolan strikes me as a player that would want to hold onto those picks, but I would make that move if the Steelers were willing to.

  233. IF we made that move we would be able to acquire SO much talent. There would be SOOOO many talented players left with the 15th pick. However, GREG, what position would you address with that pick?

  234. With that pick I would be thinking Branch, Carriker, or Nelson…..Maybe Meechum because I still think that would be too high for the remaining wideouts. Besides, we could go wideout FOR SURE with the second rounder if we made this move.

  235. I think we should go with Jason Hill.I think someone on here said he ran a 4.3 speed, and Mike Nolan & Co saw him in the Senior Bowl.plus he’s from SF.not a bad idea for the second round….could be the next Marcus Colstan.

  236. i think paul williams could be another posability since he was on nolans roster durring senior bowl too.

  237. im watching the nfl net every sunday they have rebrodcasted games from this past year and i havent seen a 49ERS game YYYET.BUT THEY WILL SHOW A SORRY ASS SEAHAWKS AND ARIZINA GAME,ATLEAST THE EAGLES AND SAINTS GAME IS OK.

  238. Ryan… Haralson is strictly a 3-4 OLB, TWEENER is a term used when a player has a build that doesn’t fit to a specific position, so in this case he is a DE/LB… the term tweener genergally isn’t used for OLB/MLB since in a 4-3 there isn’t as much of a difference in body complex and ability

  239. generally*

  240. hey topflight,I like to think that every game we play is a 50/50 chance.Im glad that we have a 70% chance over Arizona, but I like the saying any given sunday.

  241. the reson I say this is because people gave us only like a 15% chance to beat Denver.and about that Seattle game in seattle,I would say a 45% chance to win that game.

  242. My bad Big M, but Haralson must weigh a lot because he isn’t very tall and I didn’t know that they had the same body build up in the 3-4. I thought the middle linebackers were smaller and faster…..Shows what I know.

  243. The more I think about Smiley being traded the more I have mixed feelings about it because he is SOOOO good. Snyder IS better than KWAME, but I don’t know if anyone in the backup role is ready to step up and be AS GOOD as Smiley. We better get a first day pick on a guard if we do trade him. I realize the idea that we should get something for him IF AFTER THIS SEASON HE WILL BE GONE ANYWAY.

  244. baas is ready to play…dont forget his last year at michigan he was the big ten offensive lineman of the year…he has been in the league now a couple years and has learned the ropes….whenever he gets the chance to play he always does a good job…i wouldnt mind at all if baas and snyder took over for smiley and harris…even though smiley is good we might as well get compensated for him while we can because we will not resign him after this season and we will lose him as an UFA

  245. we should not trade smiley, baas, and not harris unless for the right price…harris isn’t good but we could do worse (i know its hard to beleive) and im not sold on snyder being better because if he was he would have gotten the nod to start

patrick willis is just not good enough to be drafted at the 11th pick especially in a 3-4…it would be much better value to get david harris in the second round he would start and be very good for years

Branch and then Carriker in the first

Brandon Merriwether (FS)..mark roman is not good.. then David Harris (MLB) then Receiver in the second

(if dwane Jarret falls all the way to the second round draft him right away)

i would have no problem trading our first rounder, second rounder, one third rounder, and a fourth rounder for the second pick in the draft for calvin johnson…we need a star reciever…we haven’t had one since jerry rice and no one player has done more for our franchise than him (maybe montanna…actually probably montanna but no one else)

  246. i think if baas had a shot to start he would take the job.but smiley has a year experiance over baas and i think that baas is being groomed to take over larry allens place next year if he leaves, unless they think that tony wragge or snyder can do it. i think smiley is our best pass pertecter, larry allen is good but even espn said that he was a step slow in pass pertection this pass year.as they called it(a little long in the tooth). becauce of his age.but that is my opinion, for all i know they might be eyeing a free agent for next year.

  247. Ryan… 3-4 OLBs are generally pass-rushers, so more often than not they are converted DEs. THey use the term TWEENER when they are too small to play end, but too big for linebacker in the 4-3, but they can rush the passer and fit well in the 3-4. 3-4 OLBs are usually around 255-265lbs… the MLBs are ideally 240-250. They gotta have size, speed, and agility… look at Baltimore w/ Ray Lewis and Bart Scott, and they had Adalius Thomas and Terrell Suggs on the outside… Thomas and Suggs are freakishly quick for their size though so Baltimore should’ve stepped up and planned to keep Thomas… they could have had a defensive dynasty.

  248. does anybody have any extra tickets to the 49er draft day party in santa clara on the 28th? help a a fellow niner fan out please anybody?

  249. nope i only have tickets for new york.me and my cousin paul are going and i dont even know where the seats are at because he has the tickets and i wont talk to him until the day before the we go.the funny thing is i have a steve young origial jersey with the year we went to the superbowl that has the nfl 25 year aniversary patch on it with a black hoody under it.and we didnt draft steve young.i just got a frank gore jersey but its to tight with something under it.

  250. i wonder if we can get a first round pick for smiley,i remember last year dever wanted to trade there first round pick for smiley im wondering if they still want him.and if we do that then we might have a better shot of getting justin blalock, because he is more of a mauler than smiley.another pipe dream probily.

  251. 4 U PAT WILLIS FANS….WE MAY BE N TROUBLE…I HOPE NOT…

Need for linebackers could create an early run

    By Nolan Nawrocki
    April 12, 2007

This year’s LB crop does not feature a lot of depth, and with few quality linebackers at the top, the trend that appears to be emerging, the way we hear it, is that there could be a run on linebackers early in the draft.

What may set the run in motion is the early selection of Mississippi LB Patrick Willis. After clocking as fast as 4.35 on watches at his pro-day workout and showing rare speed, he positioned himself to be drafted in the top 10, where some evaluators had graded him even prior to his workout.

“You know exactly what you are getting with him,” one scouting director said. “I’ve heard people criticize him for his intelligence. I think naïveté is more the issue than intelligence. He can learn it. When he puts his mind towards doing anything, he finds a way to get it done.”

The first team that realistically could begin thinking about Willis is the Minnesota Vikings, who lost Napoleon Harris in free agency and have Chad Greenway coming off a season-ending knee injury. Willis would be a perfect fit for the Tampa-2 defense that new defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier inherits from Mike Tomlin. Having drafted a linebacker in the first round last year, however, makes it more unlikely the Vikings would look to fill the position again.

The Falcons are not exactly stacked at linebacker after parting ways with oft-injured Edgerton Hartwell, but they have more pressing needs elsewhere.

Where Willis could realistically be drafted is at No. 9, where Dolphins GM Randy Mueller, who is infatuated with speed, has gained more control in the decision-making process.

Houston could also factor into the mix. The basement for Willis, however, could be San Francisco. Niners LB coach Mike Singeltary grew more enamored with Willis each day at the Senior Bowl, and Willis could pair with Manny Lawson to give the Niners one of the fastest pairs of linebackers in the NFL.

What could trigger a run on linebackers, more than anything else, is the serious needs of teams that are drafting in the next several spots. Buffalo lost MLB London Fletcher to the Redskins in free agency and traded WLB Takeo Spikes to the Eagles. The way we hear it, Paul Posluszny is gaining a lot of momentum in the Bills’ Orchard Park headquarters, with GM Marv Levy having drafted former Bills and Nittany Lions standout Shane Conlan, whose jersey number Posluszny elected to wear at Penn State, eighth overall in 1987.

It would be a surprise if Posluszny were drafted as high as 12th, but given how early the Bills selected Donte Whitner a year ago, it would not be out of character for them to target the player they want and never look back.

St. Louis has more pressing needs up front and at cornerback than at linebacker, but Carolina, at No. 14, and Pittsburgh, at No. 15, both have strong needs at linebacker and could be pressed to pull the trigger on a linebacker, knowing their chances of finding another good one would diminish in the second round.

Panthers head coach John Fox values versatility in his linebackers, and Jon Beason played every spot at Miami (Fla.). He did not run as fast as some scouts had expected at the Combine, but when he ran again for scouts last week, he was clocked between 4.62 and 4.69, considerably better than the mid-4.7 times he clocked in Indianapolis. Regardless of how fast Beason times, he plays fast, which matters most to good evaluators. Panthers SLB Thomas Davis is expected to take strides in his second full year at linebacker, but MLB Dan Morgan has been injury-prone, and the defense has not been the same since it lost Will Witherspoon in free agency to the Rams, leaving stopgap defender Na’il Diggs on the weak side. Beason is the most NFL-ready of all the linebackers in this draft and could step in and contribute immediately and be prepared to take over for Morgan, another Hurricane, in the future. The way we hear it, Beason will warrant legit consideration by the Panthers.

Our sources also tell us that the Steelers, at No. 15, do not expect Beason to be available and would strongly consider him if he were there. Although cornerback is a more pressing need, Beason or Florida State LB Lawrence Timmons might be strong considerations.

With jobs on the line and a high premium being placed on winning now, teams have increasingly drafted for need more than value. If needs dictate decisions, it will not be a surprise on Draft Day if four linebackers are drafted in the top 15. However, teams that better understand value and are willing to risk the possibility that their guy won’t be available later will look to trade back rather than overdraft a player higher than they should. That could be the case with the Bills, Panthers and Steelers. If they are forced to stay put, the higher premium on the CB position also could affect their decisions, with the Bills and Steelers both having pressing needs at cornerback.

  252. I HOPE DIS IS TRUE…

    Mock draft

Team concerns could adversely affect Lynch, Moss, Jarrett

Teams have begun meeting with their coaches and are either amidst or entering their final set of meetings to finalize their draft boards. Decision time is drawing nearer, and while teams have not completely settled on their targets, they are narrowing down their choices. With Draft Day barely two weeks away, the following is how we see the cards being called if the draft were held tomorrow. As is the case every year, we see a lot of bad picks about to be made, starting with the very first, but projections are based heavily on inside information and what we hear teams are planning to do, not what we think is best for teams.

With character and medical meetings beginning to take place, some players could be adversely affected, the way Jimmy Williams and Winston Justice were a year ago. Partly for those reasons and because of team needs, we are projecting that Marshawn Lynch, Jarvis Moss and Dwayne Jarrett could be this year’s losers. (Juniors are denoted by an asterisk.)

    1. Oakland Raiders — QB JaMarcus Russell, LSU*
With a 29-year-old quarterback coach and an offensive coordinator who struggled dealing with prima donnas Michael Vick and Terrell Owens, Russell will enter a situation set up for failure. But with Josh McCown expected to be in town before the season starts, the Raiders will not have to rush him into the lineup.

    2. Detroit Lions — WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech*
Lions president Matt Millen is worried he will be heavily scrutinized for selecting a fourth receiver in five years in the top 10, but Johnson has the most value at this spot and will afford the Lions a chance to move down and select the pass rusher they desire.

    3. Cleveland Browns — RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma*
Jamal Lewis is a one-year solution, and it’s been proven that two good backs are needed to tote the rock in the NFL. GM Phil Savage will have to fight off ownership’s desires for a local quarterback who will excite fans in order to get the player he desires.

    4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin
A trade up to nab Johnson is tops on the Bucs’ agenda, but GM Bruce Allen is still hoping Johnson will fall to him and is not likely to pull the trigger until a team in front of him first selects Johnson.

    5. Arizona Cardinals — DT Alan Branch, Michigan*
Trading back would be a better scenario for the Cards, but finding a buyer willing to move up could prove difficult. Ken Whisenhunt knows how important Casey Hampton was in Pittsburgh, and a run-stuffing clogger in the middle could immensely improve the Cards’ defense.

    6. Washington Redskins — FS LaRon Landry, LSU
Redskins coaches have taken a strong liking to Amobi Okoye, but Landry still has a lead.

    7. Minnesota Vikings — QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame
Brad Childress likes the prospects of Tarvaris Jackson but will not make the same mistake the Raiders did a year ago at this spot and live to regret passing on a franchise quarterback.

    8. Atlanta Falcons — DE Gaines Adams, Clemson
Adams could be nabbed by the Lions earlier if a trade unfolds, but he has too much value for the Falcons to bypass after losing Patrick Kerney and not being able to count on injury-prone John Abraham.

    9. Miami Dolphins — OT Levi Brown, Penn State
Cam Cameron knows how important establishing a dominant offensive line was to the Chargers’ success.

    10. Houston Texans — CB Leon Hall, Michigan
Texans must get better on the back end, and Hall’s versatility and consistency will appeal.

    11. San Francisco 49ers — LB Patrick Willis, Mississippi
Immediately upgrades the 49ers’ defensive team speed and provides the leadership in the locker room to help the team take the next step.

    12. Buffalo Bills — CB Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh*
With a glaring hole at cornerback following Nate Clements’ departure, Revis brings the size and toughness to immediately compete and brings added value where Clements did not, in the return game.

    13. St. Louis Rams — DT Amobi Okoye, Louisville
With La’Roi Glover aging, Okoye could bring an upfield presence to disrupt the middle.

    14. Carolina Panthers — DL Adam Carriker, Nebraska
John Fox loves smarts and versatility, and Carriker brings both. He’s a safe pick if the Panthers cannot trade down.

    15. Pittsburgh Steelers — LB Jon Beason, Miami (Fla.)*
With the top two corners off the board, Beason can step into the starting lineup immediately and fit in either an even or an odd front should the Steelers eventually transition to the 4-3.

    16. Green Bay Packers — DE Jamaal Anderson, Arkansas*
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila is best as a situational pass rusher, not an every-down player, and Anderson can bring more pressure off the edge.

    17. Jacksonville Jaguars — FS Reggie Nelson, Florida*
With serious questions at safety following the departure of Deon Grant and with Donovin Darius coming off a season-ending injury, safety is the Jaguars’ most pressing need. Jaguars vice president of player personnel James Harris was in Baltimore when the Ravens selected Ed Reed, and Brandon Meriweather could be difficult to pass, but questions about Meriweather’s character may scare the owner.

    18. Cincinnati Bengals — CB-PR Aaron Ross, Texas
With a higher premium being placed on character, Ross looks even more appealing. His return ability pushes up his value.

    19. Tennessee Titans — WR Ted Ginn Jr., Ohio State*
With Pacman Jones suspended for the season, a returner will be needed, and Ginn can be an immediate impact player on special teams and open up the passing game with his vertical speed.

    20. New York Giants — OLB Lawrence Timmons, Florida State*
A corner may be more immediately needed, but the Giants can find one in the second round. It will be more difficult to find a linebacker with Timmons’ upside.

    21. Denver Broncos — OT Joe Staley, Central Michigan
The Broncos have needed more of a pass rush for years and have elected to fill the void through free agency rather than the draft. With the league’s premier cover corner able to blanket half the field, the Broncos do not need a great pass rusher, and they could find a good one in the second round. Staley protects their investment in Jay Cutler at a position where they were forced to start an undrafted free agent last year.

    22. Dallas Cowboys — WR Dwayne Bowe, LSU
Bowe has the swagger that Jerry Jones loves, and with an aging group of receivers, including a Terrell Owens who began to show his age a year ago, Bowe will be difficult to bypass.

    23. Kansas City Chiefs — WR Robert Meachem, Tennessee*
The Chiefs need to begin thinking about replacing their offensive line, but they can turn their attention there in the next round. Carl Peterson has neglected the team’s WR need for too long — and he could with Tony Gonzalez being the team’s true No. 1 target — but with Trent Green likely to be dealt, he needs to find more weapons for Damon Huard to open up the passing game.

    24. New England Patriots — FS Brandon Meriweather, Miami (Fla.)
The Patriots can feel comfortable selecting a supersmart, versatile talent because of the locker-room leadership that self-polices brash, young superstars.

    25. New York Jets — TE Greg Olsen, Miami (Fla.)*
There is a premium on the TE position in the school of thought in which Eric Mangini was raised, because the position is like a knight on a chessboard. It can create a lot of favorable matchups and consistently put opponents in check. Although tight end is not the Jets’ greatest need, Olsen will be difficult to pass.

    26. Philadelphia Eagles — SS Michael Griffin, Texas
In many ways, Griffin is similar to the departed Michael Lewis, only he does not enter the NFL with the injury concerns that pushed down Lewis’ draft value and he is much better on special teams, an area where the Eagles need to get back to previous form.

    27. New Orleans Saints — LB Paul Posluszny, Penn State
Because Posluszny is such a safe pick, some old-school decision-makers such as Marv Levy and Tom Coughlin could fall in love with what he stands for and pull the trigger earlier. But Posluszny can be comfortable knowing he has a home awaiting in New Orleans, where head coach Sean Payton places a high value on character.

    28. New England Patriots — DE Justin Harrell, Tennessee
With Ty Warren needing to be locked up with a long-term deal and the premium the Patriots place on their front, Harrell could be plugged in as a five-technique. It will be difficult to find another like him in the coming rounds, and the Patriots will always draft for value more than need. Cornerbacks can be found in the next two rounds.

    29. Baltimore Ravens — C Ryan Kalil, USC
The Ravens could strike gold again in the first round as they seemingly do every year with a can’t-miss pick.

    30. San Diego Chargers — CB Chris Houston, Arkansas*
A.J. Smith has a sparkle in his eye for strong, physical, tough football players, and although cornerback is not his most pressing need, it could be difficult for him to pass on Houston, who fits the Chargers’ system well.

    31. Chicago Bears — OG Ben Grubbs, Auburn
The Bears have more need outside than inside, with age soon to catch up with them at the OT position, but Grubbs will give Cedric Benson the best chance to crease defenses now that he has the platform to himself, with Thomas Jones having been sent packing to New York.

    32. Indianapolis Colts — LB David Harris, Michigan
Bill Polian loves Big Ten talent, and Tony Dungy loves speed, something Harris showed more at the Combine than he does on tape. A trade down may be more in order, but there is no way the Colts will be able to land Harris with their next pick. With Cato June having departed, more help is needed at linebacker.

POSSIBLY…TRADE UP 2 GET JARRET.. N THA 2ND…..WAT YALL THINK..

  253. im just hoping at what ever position we draft.that we get a leader and playmaker and someone who is not injured all the time.

  254. Honestly who do you think we will get at wide receiver, we neeed a Big Tall Receiver at number 11 or 2nd round or else were going to suck. I want the tradition, the old era to comeback. I say we trade up for Jarrett or get sidney rice in second. defense will not do anything in the first look at Mario Williams. I want to win now not later!

  255. Anyone other receivers who we can get in any rounds of the draft that are 6’4 0r 6’5 with potential, does anyone know (please post if you find any available.) list name and height and school.

  256. 6’4 to 6’5 Available

  257. Receivers at that height!

  258. ok look at mario but then look at the linebackers taken aj hawk ernie sims keven wimberly ok and the year before shawn merriman ok line backers latly are kicking ass take willis in the first trade up to get a reciver jarret will be gone by then so get steve smith out of usc or sidney rice then trade our third and a forth to either get a low first or a second rounder so we have 3 in the top two

  259. im waiting to see if we trade smiley and what we will get for him,if we trade him.because we might get another second round pick or possably another first if denver wants him.

  260. and if we trade smiley that means baas will probley start and i hope he works on the snap count because he hasnt played that much in two years since he has been drafted.and i dont want to here false start on baas all yearand then holding on the next play on kwame harris .

  261. CandleStick, I wouldn’t say that was the reason the Texans weren’t good. The reason the Texans weren’t good is because their secondary was horrible, their offensive line was one of the worst in the league, they had an average running game, and only one REAL receiving threat. I think it is a little early to say that Mario Williams is not going to be a good player. No offense intended, but if we do take a receiver it is probably going to be Meachum or S. Rice (if available) in the second round. Jarrett isn’t going to be a niner unless he falls to the second or we acquire another 1st rounder.

  262. i have a feeling they got a receiver mind and like two or three backup receivers in mind if we dont get the first option.

  263. jerry, I agree, but be honest…………how likely do you think it is that we use THE 11TH PICK IN THE DRAFT ON A RECEIVER???? We might use our second rounder and one of our third rounders, but NOT OUR 11TH PICK. Maybe if we trade down we will draft one.

  264. i ment in the whole draft not just the first round.

  265. Ryan, I disagree the Texans wasted a a pick and it hurt them. They had a chance to land Reggie Bush, who would have improved their offense and scored some Touchdowns! It is probably going to the same scenario if we pass on jarrett, for willis or someone at defense. The defensive pick will probably suck and we’ll lose Jarrett to the Cowboys or some team we can’t stand, and be in the same position come next year- nowhere! I respectfuly disagree I think it is a bad move- we need as Receiver at number one or trade down for another pick! I re-enerate I want to win now not later!

  266. The Saints kick ass with bush at offense the Texans did nothing! it will be safer at receiver at number one!

  267. well the derick smith video got removed from youtube.com after he complained about it.

  268. Ryan,I Think meachum is too short at 6’2 but rice is Excellent at 6’4. Your defensive picks are excellent, but man i have a feeling we need that receiver or else!

  269. i wish we could trade smiley and our first round pick for detroits first round pick and get calvin johnson.but you never know who the raiders are going to pick.

  270. thats an excellent scenario jerry me and everyone on this site would agree, I think! I wish nolan was listenibng on this site, do you think the coaches read these.

  271. Calvin Johnson would be awesome! I keep dreaming that would take place!

  272. Jerry or Ryan the first I asked earlier who at receiver besides Jarrett who has potential who is 6’4 in height to 6’5 or taller would be available in rounds two and on! I think we need a big target, this will make corners and safetys job alot harder and they will be an easier target to get to down field or in the endzone!

  273. Does anyone no of any receivers that fit this description!

  274. Please post!

  275. dont compare jarrett and reggie bush…bush is so so so much better

    defense wins championships

and our defense sucked ass last year

  276. 6’4 to 6’5 or taller with potential!

  277. WR, who’s the best available at this heigth

  278. they got matt tratton michigan state6-6 230 pounds but he is more of a joe jurevicius type and there are a few 6-3 receivers like dwayne bowe 6-3 222 pounds, dallas baker 6-3 208 pounds, ryan moore 6-3 213 pounds.and there are two sleepers brett smith from tennesse he is 6-3 195 pounds and ran a 4.49 and the other is legedu naanee from boise state who is 6-3 225 pounds and i just found another his name is deyon williams who ran a4.50 and he is 6-3 192 pounds and from virginia.

  279. and how come everytime you hear of packman jones on sportscenter .you only see him tackling frank gore.samething with reggie bush you only see there high lights against the fortyniners.to me that is degrating our team.

  280. R WE BRINGING IN ANY1 FOR A WORK OUT FOR THE DRAFT

  281. I agree jerry ESPN degrades the 49ers and doesn’t pick uis to win and be a team on the rise. Mike Smith and guys like Salisbury, always talk about the Cowbillies, Patriots, and talk about them twenty four seven, but noone mentiones about our picks or our potential and how we are going to be dangerous come next year. They all seem suprised. Pisses me off.

  282. Those receiver are a 6’3 and above, i just think the new era of receivers need to be alot Taller. It helps a alot.

  283. Anyone WR. with potential 6’4 to 6’5 Available please list.

  284. i think a good draft would be to get patrick willis at first and trade up for carriker then with 3rd or 4th we get a marques colston type receiver as a sleeper and the team is set. What do u guys think.

  285. Jordan Kent out of Oregon….he is an athletic freak, but it raw and will probably go in the 5th round.

  286. i know about him to ryan but i named anough peaple already.i also like brandon myles from west virginia. the only knock on him is he is only6-0, 185 pounds.

  287. JACOBY JONES

  288. 49ERSGOLD,EVERY 6 FT 1 INCH WIDE RECEIVERS WITH THREE INCH CLEATS.

  289. Why is there no news? Just the schedlue. I thought there would’ve been a little more speculation of our first draft choice. No word on interest in Al Wilson… leaves me uninformed. He is arguably a great fit for one of our needs, being ILB. Yet no word, whats the deal?

  290. WILSON COULDNT PASS A PHYSICAL BECAUSE OF THE NECK INJURY!

  291. First can we get a new thread going please? This one is over.

My wishlist as we get closer and closer to the draft.

In the order of taking the best players at the most needed positions.

#11 Adam Carriker DE (plug’em in for 10 years)
#42 David Harris (poor man’s Pat Willis)
    #76 Johnny Lee Higgins WR

After that it’s a crap shoot. I agree with most people in trying to trade up into the second round by using some of our late picks

  292. THEY PROJECT DAVE HARRIS TO GO TO THE PATS NOW IN THE FIRST ROUND IN MEL KIPERS NEW MOCK DRAFT.

  293. higgins is a good pick hes big and hes a jump ball receiver just what we need but id get him in 2nd or 3rd with the 1st pick we need to get willis to replace smith i just cant see him on tv or in madden another year as the starting lb.

  294. higgins is 6’0 191 lb. UTEP

  295. HERES A GOOD QUESTION,WHO MAES THE BETTER DRAG QWEEN-BARRY SANDERS OR CLINTON PORTIS(OR KWAME HARRIS..SIKE,HE NOT IN THIS ONE)

  296. WHO MAKES…..

  297. F@!*K the Saints!!

  298. BARRY BONDS I MENT

  299. can we get some fake news on here or something i dont want to see the damn schedule everytime i come here

  300. yeah we need a new topic…..this is old news and there could be plenty of draft topics to bring up.

  301. new topic plzzz

  302. This makes me think that we are going to make some moves in the draft….I don’t know why, but it was on 49erswebzone.

    http://www.49erswebzone.com/content/commentary/view.php?id=543

  303. Come on Erickson, come back from vacation.

  304. David Harris is just as good as patrick Willis in a 3-4

willis is a reach at 11

harris in the second would be sweet

willis is faster with his 4.38, but harris ran a 4.5, and harris is a thicker player, much better at taking on blockers

willis played in the 4-3 at ole miss running behind his defensive line sideline to sideline not taking on guards head on like you have to in the 3-4, at michigan they play a combo of the 4-3 and the 3-4…carriker or Branch in the first, Harris or Merriwether in the second…and a reciever somewhere….we need to trade all those 4th round picks to move up there are so many talented players

merriwether is gonna be a star

    imagine
we trade our third, all our 4ths to get two more second rounders

    we get branch/carriker in first

we get Merriwether, Harris, and a reciever (syndey Rice?

    sooo good

  305. harris is a better run stuffer.

  306. I get the feeling we all like Harris is we go after Carriker or Branch. The chances of us taking Carriker over Willis are increased because Nolan like kids from big schools. IE: Michigan, Miami, Florida, Nebraska, etc.

I like Willis alot but after Adam Carriker there’s not too many DE that are the perfect 3-4 fit with his size and speed. I mean a guy at nearly 300 lbs running a 4.18 20 yard shuttle is insane!!!

  307. LOOK I KNO DIS IS OFF TOPIC..BUT DIS IS 4 U MADDEN FAN JUSS 2 LET YALL KNO…..

Young to grace cover of Madden ’08
    By Terry McCormick,
    April 16, 2007

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young will be on the cover of the EA Sports Madden 2008 video game.

A source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Young’s gracing the cover of the game to The City Paper. Efforts to reach EA Sports were unsuccessful on Monday.

An official announcement is expected on Tuesday and Young will appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as part of the kickoff promotion for the newest version the popular NFL video game that is endorsed by NFL Hall of Fame coach and analyst John Madden.

Of course, appearing on the cover of the game has produced a “jinx” of sorts in recent seasons.

Several players, including former Titan Eddie George, have graced the cover, then succumbed to injury or ineffectiveness in the season they were on the game’s front.

George was on the cover during the 2001 season, the year he suffered through a toe injury. In 2000, George had rushed for a career-high 1,509 yards. Because of the injury, George managed just 939 yards in 2001 as the Titans slumped from 13-3 to 7-9.

Other prominent players to fall victim to the Madden Curse include quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper and last year’s cover man Shaun Alexander.
Young apparently will also appear in commercial spots for the game that will be aired during coverage of the NFL Draft.

  308. I THOUGHT/N WANTED IT 2 BE IT WAS GON BE FRANK GORE..BUT I WAS WRONG..DAMN…

  309. Let us not forget Jamal Anderson…..if he is still on the board we would be fools to take Carriker or Branch over him (notice I didn’t say Willis). This STILL could be a good move IF we acquired David Harris and that is looking REALLY IFFY with our second pick. Glad to hear Gore didn’t get the cover and the curse.

  310. The thing that sucks is that we aren’t going to probably see ANY moves until next week. Everyone is waiting everyone out so no one has time to think and react to their moves.

  311. Also, here is a list courtesy of sf49ers.com of who the niners are having to come visit them.

    http://49ers.com/pressbox/news_detail.php?PRKey=2954

  312. that means vince young will be injured then probley.let him get the madden jinkx.hahahaha

  313. we need a new post,we are up to 300 posts already talking the sos.

  314. NAH I WAS HOPIN 4 GORE 2 BE ON THA COVER..SO THA CURSE COULD BE BROKEN..BY A NINER..

  315. N I LL BET YA DAT WOULD OF BEEN TALKED ABOUT..4 A WHILE..

  316. Nice blog!

  317. JUSS NEEDED SUM NEW 2 TALK ABOUT….WARRIORS PLAY-OFF PUSH!!!N THA NINER SCHEDULE…

    Warriors face playoff TV woes

THE NBA PLAYOFFS are still a week away, and there’s still at least a 50-50 chance the Warriors won’t be involved, but it’s decision time nonetheless at FSN Bay Area.
    What if …

-The Warriors open the playoffs next Saturday night at Dallas, potentially conflicting with FSN’s telecast of the A’s-Rangers game? OK, that’s a no-brainer: The Warriors bump the A’s over to FSN Plus.

-But what if Game 1 is Sunday night, up against Game 6 of the Sharks-Predators series? Do the Warriors still get top billing? Do they get relegated to Plus? Or does FSN look at the costs involved and pull the plug on the Warriors altogether, letting ESPN or TNT deliver it exclusively to the Bay Area?

-An even tougher call would be if Game 2 were to fall on Tuesday the 24th, when the Sharks could be playing a Game 7 and the Giants are visiting the Dodgers on an “American Idol” night (meaning Channel 2 is off-limits).

Ted Griggs, FSN Bay Area’s new general manager, admitted Friday he’s not sure where his network’s priorities will lie. Suffice it to say, Bob Fitzgerald and Jim Barnett haven’t been mailed their plane tickets yet.

Is there something wrong with this picture (or lack thereof)?

A Warriors playoff game would dominate any Sharks postseason action in the ratings. And it would be flat-out embarrassing if the Warriors were trumped by an unwatchable Giants club.

Griggs assures all Warriors playoff games will be televised in the Bay Area. He’s just not fully

    ——————————————————————————–

    ——————————————————————————–
convinced FSN needs to foot the bill for the broadcasts when someone else (ESPN or TNT) is willing to do it.
Fortunately, a final decision hasn’t been made, so a potential mistake is easily correctable. I encourage all Bay Area sports fans to make their feelings heard beforehand, rather than complain about it afterward.

DATELINE: Between the lines. Speaking of TV schedules … when you look at the NFL’s list of national telecasts in 2007, it paints a pretty clear picture of what the decision-makers in New York think of the Bay Area teams and fans.

Take opening week, for example. I’m sure Tags and the boys got quite a chuckle out of scheduling the “Stupor Bowl” — 2006 doormats Detroit and Oakland — to kick off the season.

The unfunny part is: We don’t get to see one of the best games on the entire NFL schedule — Chicago at San Diego — because Fox will be forced to show us the Oakland game. Send the Raiders off on one of their NFC North road trips, and we don’t encounter that problem.

Meanwhile, much is made of the 49ERS getting four prime-time dates, but all four serve a purpose.

Don’t for a minute believe the 49ERS were “rewarded” with a coveted Monday-night spot on opening week. The fact is: Like last year, ESPN wanted two West Coast teams for the game that will kick off at 10:15 in the East, and the Arizona-San Francisco matchup was the only one that qualified.

The 49ERS return to ESPN on Nov. 12 at Seattle, but that’s only because that matchup could not be scheduled on Sunday afternoon because of a potential conflict with the Raiders. The same goes for the Bengals-49ers pairing on Dec. 15 that will be telecast by the NFL Network.

Lastly, there’s the 49ERS’ so-called return to the Big Stage when NBC has them slotted to host Tampa Bay on the night of Dec. 23. Don’t believe it.

That’s one of those “flex” games where NBC reserves the right to change matchups. With Brett Favre visiting Chicago and an Eagles-Saints playoff rematch that day … uh, I wouldn’t make afternoon plans, Niners fans.

Interestingly, the NFL has the Raiders playing at Jacksonville that day, leaving the afternoon slot open for the 49ERS.

    Now that’s good scheduling.

  318. respect has to be earned-we need to draft some down right mean, angry, nasty and tenacious football attitude atheletes-willis – studdard-i like what keith has-a bit of lott flowin thru his veins-he needs more on field action-if we have an as close to perfect draft as possible we might just might make a playoff run
