He’s No Gus the Kicking Mule

Reality TV has made its way into Ninerland. On April 20th the 49ers will host a tryout for Jim Davis, who was a contestant on the ABC game show “The Great American Dream Vote.” His dream was the be the oldest rookie in the NFL, and he made it to the finals. However, ABC pulled the show and the results of Davis’ dream were not known until ABC called Davis on Monday to inform him of the tryout.

“The only thing that they told me about it was that the 49ers were very excited and really were looking forward to meeting me.”

Good luck, Jim.

  1. what position
    ?

  2. MAN WE NEED SOME REAL NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Yeah, this post wasn’t very good and no one really cares about this guy…..no offense.

  4. can we at least talk about something that is worth talking about like WHY HASN’T THE NINERS SCHUDULE BEEN RELEASED YET??? I thought the NFL was supposed to release the schedules yesterday. Yeah, I know we face the AFC North and the NFC SOUTH and whether it is at home or away, but I was wondering when the dates will come out.

  5. I CARE!

  6. If I’m not mistaking it wasn’t a schedual but it had who we’ll play in 2007 on 49erswebzone.com but you probably saw that already.

  7. Yes, but thank you. I was looking for dates because my friends and I were debating on watching either the Bengals, Saints, or Ravens this season.

  8. we(jerry, eddie, larry) wanna know when the pitt.steelers game is going to be so we can get tickets and request that day off from work.eddie said he wants to get his rookie shawnte spencer signed(hopfully)and kick kwame in the knee cap.sike!!!!

  9. WE NEED JARRETT OR ELSE

  10. I think there is a possibility that the niners are waiting it out until later this month because then no one will make trades based on their moves. This way they can get the players that they want to acquire. I’m still not ruling out that the niners have another trick up their sleeve before draft day or during.

  11. you mean till the last day before the draft.if they wait till the end of the month the draft will be over.and ryan we think the same thing, in the first two rounds there is something that will happen a trade with draft picks or a player like smiley or haris to be traded.i also look for the raiders to trade moss and then draft calvin johnson.kansis city to trade trent green to miami for draft picks and the bears trading briggs or denver trading al wilson.al this stuff could happen before draft day.lots of propaganda in the war rooms before draft day like usual.

  12. or the lions trading there draft picks for more.

  13. Soooo it sounds like the Colts are interested in Barlow……ha, ha, ha!!!!! That would be a foolish move. Also, I keep asking and no one responds……WHAT IF JAMAL ANDERSON IS AVAILABLE WITH THE 11TH PICK???? IS HE A MUST PICK???

  14. JAMAL ANDERSON HE COULD BE BUT I LIKE PATRICK WILLIS LIL MORE BUT WE WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND FIND OUT WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK FRANK GORE WILL BE RATED IN NFL MADDEN 2008 ANY IDEAS IM HOPING AT LEAST 90

  15. I have mixed feelings about who we should take if they BOTH are available….also Branch might be available as well. IF all of these players are available I am not sure which direction they will go because these are all players that address a NEED. The niners have been looking to fill these needs for some time now and Nolan IS A DEFENSIVE MINDED COACH.

  16. What is this crap man lets get some realy news on here ya i care about what players were bringing in but come on i want to know what does mike wants to do but i happy that were going in the right direction and playoffs here we come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Hell ya frank better be a least a 90 and they better make him have some power!

  18. You guys know Devin Hesters speed is gonna be a 100 in madden?

  19. YEA I HEARD THAT THATS WAY TO HIGH I WANT TO SEE GORE AT LEAST 90 OVERAL ANYTHING LOWER WOULD BE BULL SHIT WONDER HOW THE OTHER NINERS WILL BE RATED

  20. I LIKE REAL FOOTBALL BETTER.NOT FANTACY FOOTBALL.AND THERE FANCHISE PLAYERS SUCK. THERE DRAFTS SUCK.IF IT WAS UP TO MADDEN BRETT FARVE WOULD BE INJURED EVERY YEAR AND FRANK GORE.AND ALEX SMITH WOULD SUCK TO 86 ARM STRENTH AND NO ACCRACY.AND YOU HAVE TO RECREATE PLAYERS TO THERE STANDERDS.EVEN PAYTON MANNING GETS INJURED IN MADDEN.

  21. I heard this guy was trying out for RIGHT TACKLE!!!!!!

  22. niners on nfl network!!!!

  23. WHO CARES???? IT’S A DAMN VIDEO GAME……NOT REAL LIFE!!!! IT’S A VIDEO GAME!!!! That’s as worthless a topic as this nobody that the niners are letting try out.

Dream: To be the oldest NFL rookie
This 43-year-old marine, pastor, and father of 3 knows the odds are stacked against him, but that isn’t stopping his dream. Jim is training to play at least one down in the NFL, though he never played in high school or college. His dream is a two-day tryout or a place on the Practice Squad to either prove or disprove his ability based on skills and not age. He is a member of the Army National Guard and with half his unit serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, he says it would be an inspiration for them as well. This 212-pound player can bench press 500 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds at a CFL tryout last year. Everyone asks what keeps driving him, and he says “HEART… I will not give up until this dream comes true.”

  26. Who´s come in for visits… I know Eric Wright did. I´ve heard he could be a Frank Gore caliber sleeper. Did you guys see some mocks have us going for Meachem with the 11th. Thats just idiotic if you ask me. Even is the guy is fast as hell.

  28. http://abc.go.com/primetime/dreamvote/vote/form/vote?cb=20070328

  29. I’m with Zurdo…..that would be REALLY DUMB. This is a deep WR class so I hope the niners aren’t going to be dumb enough to draft someone that wouldn’t get drafted before Titans if we didn’t draft him…..just dumb. Get Willis or Jamal Anderson.

  30. who cares if its a video game? its THE VIDEO GAME!! THERE ARE NO NEW NEWS REGARDING THE 9ers, so let these people have their fun..worthless or not, what you expect man? and that ‘nobody’ the niners are letting try out is probably wwwaaayyy more in shape than you, can prolly lift 220 more pounds than you , and has prolly gotten more ass than you see on os..but please, dont stop hatin.. u could even on me if you wanna.-i got twenty people hatin on me. i need to figure out how the to get to 40 before the summer comes.. so please, do what u do..

  31. okay, so he could bench 450 more pounds than you..

  32. IS HIS NAME RUDY FROM NOTRE DAME.THAT WHO HE SOUNDS LIKE.OR THE DICK VERMIELL MOVIE.me personally cant afford the new playstation #3.and the playstation 2 i had, fell and broke, and had no warrenty on it, so i used it as target practice at the shooting range.so no madden this year.

  33. Frank Gore-spd:89 str:74 awr:75+ agi:88 acc:93 car:82 btk:91 cth:79 OVR: 92 (my madden 08 prediction of his stats)

  34. stupid shit his name aint rudy and that guy from the dick vermiel movie is vince papale u dumb shit and yes hes way more in shape than all of u put together

  35. im was saying who he remindeds me of.im not going to lower my self to your level of name calling because nothing gets done that way.

  36. pussy and u call urself a niner fan.

  37. you sure your not the seatle fan.you sound just like the guy on,frank gores bitch.at least i know how to spell right and if you have any problems with me i left my address on there to.

  38. im tired of hearing about packman jones.if roger goodell wants to make a statement he should not let ricky williams back.

  39. i wouldnt mind trading for ricky williams as our backup…toss a fourth rd at them…

  40. i have been saying all along we should definately take jamaal anderson if he falls to us. he is THE PICK if he’s still there. the replacement for the man, aka, B.Y. look at andersons numbers in games, he is a freak of nature. carricker has great measurables but jamaal has way better results in games he played. order of likely draft picks according to me. anderson, landry, p. willis, branch, okoye, carriker, ginn, meachem. would love to get gaines adams (maybe a draft day trade?) but he’s gonna be long gone. just my 2 cents.

  41. I cant wait for Madden 08. Did they actually talk about the niners on nfl network i thought they were renameing it the PacMan Jones Network since they talk about him so much. WHOS THIS OLD GUY WHAT POSITION DOES HE PLAY IS THIS JUST FOR MEDIA ATTENTION?

  42. Does anyone know what that BIGBIG guy is saying?? I can’t understand him or what he is talking about.

  43. I was reading some articles on line and Kris Jenkins in on the trading blocks. What do you guys think of him?

  44. Why can’t we bring up Madden? This site is great, but the fans blogs are meaningless half the time.

I love playing with the Niners on Madden. I have won with all 32 teams. I can’t wait for 08. I can’t complain on 07. Gore is tremendous. I dominate with Smith, Gore, Davis, Jacobs, Lewis, Tucker, and Lawson. Smith in the video game is better than most. I can put Davis as a WR and utilize EJ. Jacobs is sick down field. I don’t know how many picks and fumbles I get from Lewis. I don’t have to worry about Spencer and Harris on the corner, though Harris gets beat more often. That could have to do with my scheme more than his ratings in the game. Lawson coming off the corner is sick. I am hitting the RB on the hand off. Same with Tucker. He rarely runs out of gas. I probably run one back with Tucker every 5-6 games.

My record against my Raider friend is ridiculous. I love this era of them sucking and us doing well. Well, it’s been like that forever huh. hahah hit me up. ALLDAMDAY on Madden.

  45. Hey jerry u little bitch were’d you leave your adress you fucking liar pussy, bring it bitch fucking shit talker.

  46. ooooh online gangstas in here

  47. LET ME HAVE EVERYONE AGREE THE RAIDERS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  48. yeah, people who talk trash on the internet are REALLY COOL!!! WOW!!! I’m willin to bet that EVERYONE on this blog is REALLY IMPRESSED!!! Also, Medford Oregon, I am definitely in agreement that the Raiders are complete trash……always have been and always will be…..but it gives us something to laugh at. Also, they always start making predictions that they are going to the bowl EVERY YEAR. This makes me question their credibility.

  49. 1539 adriatic ave. atlantic city n.j. and if you wanna see how tough i am im in my red outfit ……go to googal images and type prc baby

  50. GOOGLE IMAGES I MENT

  51. you are a stupid retard showing a picture of a baby.

  52. so what do you guys think?should we trade for chris jenkins,i dont think so,in my opinion, he is always injured all the time.

  53. LMAO

  54. jerry, I think no on Jenkins….he has issues with his brain. He IS talented, but a head case nonetheless. We don’t need that. I would only do it if they would do a straight up trade between him and Kwame….nothing else. These draft picks are going to fill holes. I am hopeful that we use Smiley in a trade for a higher draft pick because if he is most likely gone after this season then we should at least get something for him like a draft pick. OR package him with a draft pick and move into the first round. There has got to be a team looking for a quality player like him.

  55. Maiocco says that we are between 13.5 and 13.7 million left ( I can’t remember which) but I am thinking that were are going to make some BIG moves by the end of draft day because why else would be hold on to that money????

  56. YES I NOW RYAN THE FIRST,but how much is that first round pick going to cost us and is his agents name drew rosenhuos? then our second round pick maybe two second round pick.i dont think we can aford anyone else right now.but anything can happen.

  57. I think we have A LOT OF CAP ROOM TO HANDLE JUST THE DRAFT. The thing that is left to be seen is if the niners are eyeing the cuts period. Otherwise we have a good amount of money to handle just the draft……..no way we spend 13 million on the draft alone. So get another second or first rounder if the situation presents itself. Why not try to bargain with the Broncos. We HAD a good relationship with them, but after we knocked them out of the playoffs I don’t know if it is still that way. If Smiley isn’t fitting into the long term plans then we should find someone who does and if we could package Smiley (which is one hell of a bargaining chip) with a draft pick and get another first then why not? I have mixed feelings about giving him up for anything less than a higher 2nd rounder because he was a second rounder…….not only that, but he is a REALLY GOOD PLAYER and would fit into many teams plans. Being a second rounder is one thing, but Smiley is a PROVEN second round talent that is going to get PAID after this year. Let’s get something for it at least since Nolan is kind of thinking he isn’t fitting into the long term plans.

  58. new raiders slogan:please win baby.

  59. did anyone see the niners on nfl network on friday? Rod woodson said that manny lawson’s interception was one of the best he’s ever seen.and that he liked the shape that the 49ers are in and that we are headed in the right direction.

  60. Frank Gore should be badass on madden 08.Is Devin Hester on the front cover?if he is he has the madden curse.it’s a real thing, just look at Shaun Alexander and Donavan Mcnabb.

  61. Don’t speak of it….otherwise a prominent running back on the niners might get the cover and we don’t want that. Anyone who doesn’t believe in the curse of madden is a fool.

  62. I wanna see what niners defense rating on madden i say frank gore 93

  63. Geez i want to read something that matters…havnt seen that in a while

  64. MoneyMike, I know exactly what you mean.

  65. i know moneymike, gotta wait till after april 28th for some good news it seems like.doent put frank gore or anyone on our team on the madden cover please!!!! last year was the first year in a long time since we didnt have alot of injuries.

  66. I know…..Madden better not jinx us…..especially after we got all of these contracts signed.

  67. the draft cant come soon enough, tired of seeing all these hacks with their mock drafts saying were gonna take ted ginn.
    Pat Willis!!

  68. hey ryan, that bigbig guy is a beast on the field his name is james montgomery, RB for Cal(and yes, i am gonna get my shine wit marshawn out the picture). are YOU playin any real ball? no? ok then. all i was sayin was that is gonna be Frank Gores stats on ’08..understand that. I’m not throwin any dirt on your football knowledge, just dont on maddeners..and yes, i agree, NO FRANKY G(is what i call him) on the cover of 08..any madden for that matter.. they should put kwame on it and who knows, some reverse-curse type shiit might happen..

  69. BIGBIG…..you better be really good because from where I am standing Justin Forsett is going to be getting the Lion’s share of the carries. Played ball, not at a good college like CAL I have to admit (only JuCo) I JUST WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH. No Frank Gore on the cover of madden I completely agree….the curse is bad. Also, if you really are playing for the Golden Bears then I was wondering when you guys play USC because my aunt is giving my girl and I tickets (you guys better STOMP THEM). I don’t like the UNIVERSITY OF SPOILED CHILDREN.

  70. on the madden game i would not be surprized to see frank gore only be in the mid 80s 84,85,86 somewhere in that ranking and get alot of carries tohave good numbers because of one good season and he will probley be injury prone and retire early in madden 08.

  71. there goes that moneymike guy again..LOL..he has pat willis posters over his bed….what a FAG!…fuck you – that’s all you ever write about you moron. STOP wasting space!

  72. again it seems like whenever someone has something to say they bring in gay remarks whether its about suking dick or having men in bed, too many gays in this world. i think its tom is really jumpin jimmy, jump knew he would have to change his name after hsi child molestation remarks, what a loser these two are. tom like i said with jump jim, im not responding to lowlife trash like u

  73. PAT W……

  74. Have we become so desperate that we are talking about the overall score for Gore on Madden. Come on guys, bring something better to the table. Take for example that I brought up Jenkins (Carolina) being on the trading blocks. What do you guys think? This is where you guys respond on your own opinion about him!

  75. No comments?

  76. yea ryan i agree justin’s a beast, but its all on work ethic and how much coach notices how i work..rite now, i actually stand #3 on the depth, but hey, i just finished my freshman year.. but I’m a worker, ill tell you that..also my bad on talkin that college mess to you..I’m really not an a**hole so i apologize..but yup when you go to the game look for me #4 MONTGOMERY..I was gonna go to Washington w/ coach Willingham, but hey, Cal’s an excellent program and its closer to home(where u at Rancho Cordova!!)you know what, my high school teammate Coy Francies(he plays for Oregon State), was covering the wideout on that 2pt conversion try when SC lost to them.. it just sucked that we couldnt do anything when WE played them..

  77. we should switch to a cover two defense.but nolan is hooked on a 3-4 defense.i think manny lawson and branon moore looked more eazed in a 4-3 defense last year.and ryan the first if you think about it,with the signing bonuses and the salories of the rookies you might have about 5-8 million left in sallory cap space left and that has to be saved incase of injuries for free agents we might have to use.

  78. can we have a new headline please.the topic goes from Rudy to Madden in about 8 seconds…what the f**k?c’mon we need something else to talk about.please god don’t put frank gore on the cover.for fuck sake the guy makes the pro bowl and still is overshadowed by tiki barber.put his ass on the cover, then he will fuck up his ability to broadcast.

  79. Adam Carriker will be our first round selection. Guaranteed! Why not? He is perfect for what we want to do on D.size, speed what else could you ask for?

  80. does anyone on this website like the Giants?man they suck this year.Zito is a bust.I think the niners are gonna rock this year.

  81. should we trade to get Calvin Johnson? I think he won’t turn out to be as good as he thinks he is right now.I mean I don’t think he’ll make an immediate impact. But I said the same thing about Vince Young.

  82. people think he is ^

  83. who do you think will be the best reciever available in the second round? Dawayne Bowe?or Robert Mechem, we need n Anquan Boldin type reciever not some handys little faggot like Jarrett.

  84. this website sucks.

  85. EVERYONE LIST YOUR SUPERBOWL PREDICTIONS

    CHARGERS/SAINTS

  86. titans and panthers are my superbowl picks

  87. but these are my picks before the draft and i want to see who gets calvin johnson first though.

  88. CALVIN JOHNSON ISNT GONA MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE NO MATTER WHAT TEAM HE GOES TO NOT THAT MUCH TO CALL SUPERBOWL ON A TEAM MY PICKS ARE THE CHARGERS/SAINTS OR BEARS TOSS UP FOR NFC I HOPE THE NINERS DRAFT PATRICK WILLIS OR JAMAL ANDERSON I PREFER WILLIS HE WILL MAKE MORE PLAYS IN THE OPEN FIELD THEN ANDERSON ON THE QB OR IF WE GO OFFENCE JARRET HE IS A BEAST WITH AMAZING HANDS SPEED DONT MATTER ITS ABOUT TIMING AND MAKING THEM MISS HE IS ALOT BETTER THEN MECHEM OR BOWE OR GINN BACK TO BACK TO BACK 1000 YARD SEASONS AND THE TD RECORD IF THAT DONT SAY SMOETHING I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL IF NOT HIM IN THE FIRST THEN STEVE SMITH IN THE SECOND OR SPENCER IN THE SECOND IF HE IS THERE DONT HATE ON JARRET THATS ALL YOU GUYS SEEM TO BE GOOD AT IS HATING

  89. we need willis….i remember when smith was with washington red skins and g.hearst ran all over them and b.young was out on injured reserve and stubblefield had like three sacks in that game.i think that was the year b.y. broke his leg in the giants game.so willis or carriker.

  90. BigBig…..yeah…. I’ll be rooting for you and ofcourse there is no offense taken in the whole situation. If you play for Cal then you’ve got a fan here. Just keep hitting the hole hard. You made the right choice between Cal and Washington….Cal is the better program and is also up and coming. You guys got a pretty good looking recruiting class. Keep up to good work…it will pay off.

  91. The niners are actually sending a scout out to meet with him for a workout in Maine, not flying him to SF. the guy is supposedly in amazing shape.

  92. I hope this chump prize winner gets hurt during the workout.

  93. Over the next few weeks 49ers.com will be rolling out some features on some of the draft eligible players available for the 2007 NFL Draft. In this On the Clock features, we take a look at Miami safety Brandon Meriweather.

Miami’s Brandon Meriweather boasts an impressive collegiate stat sheet – 83 tackles, 55 assists, seven picks and 19 passes defensed. Heading into the fall of ’06 he was projected as one of the top collegiate safeties and a possible first round pick, but at 5-11, 192 pounds, Meriweather doesn’t meet prototypical standards for a safety. His size limitations, as well as some questions about his character will likely drop him into the second round.

Wherever Meriweather lands in the upcoming draft, he’ll take with him his versatility.

Over his four-year career, Meriweather racked up 30 starts for the Hurricanes. Although he mainly hunkered down at strong safety, the Apopka, Florida native worked as a nickel back during his true freshman year in 2003, started at free safety his sophomore year and even spent time in a pinch at corner throughout this past season.

“I feel like I can make plays wherever they play me,” said Meriweather. “Making plays comes naturally for me. When you do everything inside the scheme and do everything the coaches ask you to do, plays just seem to come your way.”

One of his stints at cornerback even put him up against Georgia Tech’s wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Meriweather held Johnson to five catches for 68 yards in that match-up, not bad for a true safety covering the nation’s top receiver and an expected top five pick.

A former high school quarterback, Meriweather said he relies on two things when it comes to defending the backfield – instincts and confidence.

“I’ve played in the backfield long enough, and maybe it’s from playing quarterback before too, but I feel like I have good instincts out there,” said Meriweather. “I also think you’ve got to have confidence because everyone is going to be athletic. You’ve got to know and believe you can hang and cover anybody.”

Meriweather impressed the 49ers personnel and coaching staff during his week of work under their direction at the Senior Bowl, making several picks and knocking away passes in almost every practice.

“Meriweather has been there go-to-guy at Miami,” said Vice President of Personnel Scot McCloughan. “He’s an old school Miami type player. He’s tough and is a football player through and through, much like Ed Reed. He’ll play somewhere in the league next year, and play well.”

Working with the 49ers staff during the Super Bowl was opportunistic for Meriweather who picked up on cornerstone of playing in the secondary at the league level – backpedaling.

“At Miami we played all man coverage so we really never had to back pedal,” said Meriweather. “I worked on that a lot at the Senior Bowl. I learned how to stay deep even though sometimes I want to jump. The coaches drove home how important it is that I stay in position and trust my teammates to do their job. I learned a lot from the 49ers coaches.”

The Senior Bowl was also beneficial for Meriweather who took his chance to clear up any doubts related to a few questionable character incidents. He first made headlines off the field when he pulled a gun and shot three times at an assailant who moments before had shot his roommate and Hurricane teammate Willie Cooper in the buttocks. Law enforcement found that he had acted legally, but his behavior again came under intense scrutiny when he kicked players in the face during the infamous Miami-Florida International brawl.

“He’s a good kid,” said McCloughan. “We looked into everything and we don’t feel like he’ll have any character issues. We felt like we got a pretty good feel for him after spending time with him 24-7 during the Senior Bowl week.”

Still, Meriweather knew that in preparation for the Draft, he had to brace himself for that type of intrusive line of questioning.

“My personality is actually really outgoing,” said Meriweather. “I am a real people person. I acted to protect my teammate with the shooting incident, and in the game I just let my emotions take over me. I know what I did wasn’t right, and I know I’ll have to answer for it until the actual day of the draft.”

Aside from answering tough questions, Meriweather knew it would also be critical to perform well at the Scouting Combine and his Pro Day. After running a 4.47 40-yard dash in Indianapolis, he stuck to mostly positional drills during his March 3 Miami Pro Day.

“I trained at Perfect Competition in Ft. Lauderdale and followed their plan for a nutritious diet and just basically trained for the 40 and all of the drills I knew I’d face during this pre-Draft period. They had me well prepared.”

With three NFL teams based in Florida, Meriweather has a shot of playing his future football in his home state, but chances are his NFL rookie days could find him in a non-Florida uniform for the first time in his career.

“I’ll just have to adapt,” said Meriweather when asked about having to leave home.

Tune in for the NFL Draft on April 28-29 to see which way the draft winds blow this

I’m not trying to break any hearts, but we just aren’t going to draft a player with the 11th pick that is expected to go in the low twenties….it would be such a waste. IF WE TRADE FOR ANOTHER 1st ROUNDER THEN YES!

  109. OK RYAN THAT’S YOUR OPINIONB, BUT READ THEW ABOVE THE OPINION OF EVERYONE ON THIS SITE WANT OFFENSE AND THEY WANT A RECEIVER. REMEMBER THAT COME NEXT YEAR WHEN JARRETT CATCHING BALLS FOR 49ERS! DO YOU REALLY WANT US TO WIN, THE TRUE FANS, THE OLD SCHOOL FANS WANT TO WIN NOW WITH A RECEIVER, THATS THE 49ER WAY! I’M STARTING TO THINK YOUR A COWBOY FAN WANTING US TO GET THE WRONG PICK! WERE GETTING JARRET WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!

  110. WERE STACKED ON DEFENSE, WE NEED A RECEIVER TO COMPETE WITH THE ELITE, AND WITH JARRETT WE’LL BE THE ELITE. NOT WANT TA BE 6’3 MEECHUM. WE NEED JARRETT, WE NEED OFFENSE!

  111. That’s what I’m talkin about MANIAC! WE NEED OFFENSE IN THE FIRST ROUND! WE NEED A BIG TIME RECEIVER FIRST!

  112. Let’s Bring on the good old days, like when we had Rice, Clark, taylor, we need a receiver!

  113. dont forget #84-brett jones and roger craig with a thousand yard season, harris barton and jessy sapalo, wallace with the double helmet protecting montana/young/deberg.

  114. Cant any one talk realy football news and you know what madden rules its the best game and some thing to talk about but madden does need to slow his roll cause hes doing a lot of dumb shit with the game he should take advice from the fans of the game and realy thing home much is speed for a guy or did he just get a good ass block come on now he was a coach he needs to start acting like one and stop saying the same dam thing every play and mix it up say some new shit on the game this year you know also are we going to wear are alt jersey this year instead of thye throw backs or what i want to see us in thos thing this is the 2007 niners not 1987 allthoe i love thoes years and love thoes jerseys and just want to see the new alternets i think they would look bad ass well go niners i can smell playoffs this year go niners !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  115. jarrett the right one i say give some one to alex that the can stay together and work on timeing

  116. That is right JARRETT is going to solve all the problems with the 49ers! What the 49ers should do is have Jarrett block, then throw ball to himself. If we get Jarrett, the 49ers will go 16-0! Jarrett is tall and has big hands he can catch anything! K. Harris is tall and has big hands to! Screw it… lets take him from the right tackle position and put him at the number 1 receiver spot. I have seen Jarrett play live and he is an average player at best! You people that think that Jarrett is the answer live in a fantasy world! There are much more talented players overall in the draft and better WR’s than Jarrett in the draft.

  117. Rofl, i think terminator, hanks49ers and 49ermaniac is the same person talking to himself. lol. they seem to be the only ones who think we should take jarret (we should take willis, carriker, or a DT) or a wr in 1st and they sound the same and type in caps….sad

  118. YEAH, GOOD POINT.I NOTICED THAT TOO.

  119. YEAH EXCELLENT POINT.GIANTS SUCK THIS YEAR YOUR AWESOME!

  120. all u guys claiming to be old school niner know it alls must have forgotten the year walsh drafted ronnie lott and the rest of our starting backi field in the first 3 or 4 rounds. that next year we were winning our superbowl. we were an offensive beast but our defence was one of the top defenses when we were winning titles. our defense still needs a lot of help. we need a defensive end or two to replace b.y. and douglas cuz young is getting up there and we can do better than douglas even though he has been serviceable. and we need a true inside linebacker to put some fear into offenses. free safety isnt a glaring need but we do need a better one. we basically have 3 strong safeties and one of them has to play free safety. on offense we need a big fast wide receiver, a backup for gore that can get good yardage when called upon (maybe M Rob develops) and a replacement for Larry Allen, kwame and smiley if we let him go. we’ll be good this year and i think we will make the playoffs but we will be nowhere near elite unless our guys REALLY develope and we have a hell of a draft. were on the right track, i think we could actually knock off someone if we get in the playoffs. GO NINERS

  121. you guys really like the niners in southern California huh? did somebody say we’ll go 16-0 if we pick Jarrett?remember when Ditka said he’ll trade all his draft picks for ricky williams?im prety sure they went 3-13 next season.so don’t think one player is gonna take you to the superbowl.(especially Jarrett)

  122. im pretty sure if we didn’t have Lott,Dean,Hacksaw Reynolds,Wright,Sanders,Hanks,Turner, and Norton Jr. we wouldn’t have 5 Lombardi trophys.

  123. CAN WE GET NEW TOPIC PLEASE?

  124. exactly honcho and Ted. im may only be 20 but my niners history is pretty damn good. on another subject though, do u guys think we’ll get comp picks for Eric Johnson, Newberry, anthony adams and antonio bryant? or does the fact that we signed all those guys in free agency off set that?

  125. Thank you MIKE HONCHO….the defense we are building is good for our offense because ALex Smith isn’t going to think he has to pass the ball for 30 yards every play to catch up with the teams that are completing the long bombs on us like last year. If we get Willis in the first round and get either Merriweather or Sidney Rice in the second then we will be in GREAT SHAPE. I think that we should have more faith in NOlan and Co to find a receiver….even if it is found in the third. There is a high likelyhood that we will draft one in the second, but if don’t and we get a Merriweather or Lamarr Woodley then I STILL think we did excellent.

  126. Ryan…NICLY SAID

  127. 49es where on sportscenter -on the clock again-and they said we will get alan branch unless we take a wide receiver.they also said we cound take a receiver in the second round who fall threw the cracks in the second round and might use a couple picks on wide receivers on draft day with having 8 picks in the first four rounds.

  128. mario they were free agents and we get no picks for them.

  129. yep, sad, but true.

  130. ANY FRAKIN NEW NEWS

  131. Here is your answer to Dwayne Jarrett on 49erswebzone.com. They were interviewing Chris Horwedel and when they asked about Dwayne Jarrett at number 11 this was his response…..read it and weep you USC fans….

“What’s your take on USC WR Dwayne Jarrett at #11?

    Chris: Won’t happen, moving on…”

  132. Lets not also forget what a great staff the niners had when they won championships…its not just having great/good players. Nolan is on the way but what about the rest of the staff. Sorry we lost turner. SO — if i think we should still draft defense

  133. I like Pat willis but without a D-line were crap.that’s just like drafting an awesome running back, with a crappy offensive line.not saying that our D-line is crappy, but it needs to improve if we want to shut people down.

  134. this is a pipe dream, but what if we traded some of our picks and got two picks in the first round.Patrick willis and/or Alan Branch,Adam Carriker. Not bad right.

  135. Look at the whole Houston thing last year.draft mario williams as number 1, and then Dameco Ryans turns out to be D-rookie of the year.Pat willis could be rookie of the next rookie of the year.what im tryin to say is Patrick Willis is too good to pass up.But we do need D-line.He will not get past the first round.Know that!

  136. has anyone heard anything on the smiley sitsuation?is he trade bate or is it a rumar?

  137. reasons to pick Patrick Willis @11
    1.he’s super talented
2.he won’t get past the first round
    3.he wears #49
4.impressed Mike Nolan and Niner staff at the senior bowl
    5.plays in the 3-4 defense
6.it will make our backer core one of the best in the NFL
7.Mike Singletary is an awesome LB coach
8.we need a good young player at ILB

    reasons to Draft D-line @11
1.we need to improve our D-line
2.Bryant Young is at the end of his career
3.gives us a solid line for the future
4.this years class is too talented to pass up.

  138. i think they could move meriweather from saftey to corner.

  139. I was reading that ESPN thing, and it said that were not ready to take the NFC west from the Seahawks.IF im not mistaken we beat them one time, when FRank Gore had 212 yards against them, and on NFL Network,at their place,in a thunderstorm when Alex Smith passed for two touchdowns and no interceptions…or was I just dreaming.

  140. what do you think are Defense will be ranked this season?Im guessing somewhere in the 17-26 spot.

  141. i say number 13 defence, top 3NFC.eagles,dallas,49ers.

  142. Hey guys….here is something for you to snack on (if you haven’t read it already)

    http://www.49erswebzone.com/content/commentary/view.php?id=540

  143. HEY RYAN THAT IS HIS OPINION.BUT I DONT AGREE WITH THE WIDE RECEIVER OPINION. HE MAKES PAUL WILLIAMS SOUND LIKE A BIG BABY PLUS AUNDRAE ALLISON WILL NOT GO PASS THE SECOND ROUND.AND HE MADE ADAM GAINS SOUND LIKE HE IS A SECOND ROUND TALENT.HE NEEDS TO GO DO YOGA WITH RICKY WILLIAMS AND SMOKE A BOWL.

  144. BUT I LIKED HIS OPION ON JASON HILL THOUGH.

  145. AND DID YOU EVER HEAR ROMEO CRENNNEL ON THE NFL NET HE SOUNDS LIKE A SPECIAL ED KID ON STERIODS.

  146. and frank gore loves turkey sandwiches

  147. Schedule Release April 11th ESPN..From Profootballtalk.com

  148. if willis, jamaal anderson, landry, and branch are taken. trade back a few spots and get an extra 3rd and some change and get meachem. IF we go the receiver route in the first it will be Meachem or little ass tedd ginn. Jarrett and you jarret pushers are hanging out with ricky williams too much if you think were taking him at 11. we can get virginia tech’s david clowney in the 4th and he would be a smarter pick than jarret. a bomb ass receiver and we keep our 1st pick to strengthen our defense

  149. I like Patrick Willis but I also am thinking that having a guy like Adam Carriker on our D-line for 10 years is a much better long term plan. This is a 6-6 guy who’s got room to add more bulk and can flat out tackle.

In the second round there’s alot of talk on David Harris – ILB from Michigan who’s said to be a poor man’s Willis but strong to come off of blockers to make plays.

Then I’m all for trading some of our third round picks to trade up to grab another 2nd round pick and use it on a WR.

    My 2 cents

  150. Yeah, I agree, WHY NOT GRAB ANOTHER 2nd?? It makes so much sense to do that because we would be grabbing ANOTHER STARTER.

  151. i cant believe how much i cant stop laughing at these fools who think jarrett is the answer..he’s not even a top 4 WO prospect..but he is an AMAZING athlete though, you have to give him that.I go Branch, Willis, Carriker in no particular order. and about Mario Williams..give him time,
I think he’ll end up workin out for Houston.

  152. Yeah, I agree with BIGBIG on that one….it is a little early for you to say that Mario Williams isn’t going to work out. I agree that they should have taken Bush or Vince Young, but again, what good would they have done last year with a pitiful offensive line? Mario Williams is going to be a good player, but probably not as much of a game changer as Young or Bush.

  153. Also, I have said it too much already…..Jarrett will not be a niner unless we acquire another 1st rounder or he falls to our second round pick. Even if we get another 1st rounder I still think we will take Meechum or Bowe…..even Ginn. Ginn Jr. is so talented, but he is 5’11” and weighs like 170. He is going to get crushed as a receiver. We shouldn’t be taking a return man in the 1st round when we have more pressing needs and Brandon Williams will probably do better next season.

  154. will get jarrett with the 39th pick in the secound and will make the right pick in the first id like to go and get a calvin johnson

  155. calvin johnson sadly will not happen. i wonder if theres any chance we could get reggie nelson in the second round if we dont get laron in the first. we probably gonna move up atleast into the 2nd if not the first so i say they go. either anderson, branch, landry, carrker, willis(not in any order) then get nelson if they didnt get landry in the first and they take a receiver with the extra second or first that they got, prefferably meechum if possible but i would take a bowe, rice, or jarrett if they fall to the right spot. make it happen nolan
